      ; 1. Noblesville, IN, Nov 10 - Mr. & Mrs James Mount observed the ir golden wedding anniversary (1945) in their home near Noblesvi lle this week with a family dinner at noon and a reception fo r their friends during the afternoon.

All of their children and grand-children were home for the occas ion with the exception of a son, Dr. M.S. Mount, who is en rout e home from the Philippines, and a grandson, Stanley Mount, of C rawfordsville. All of the brothers and sisters of Mr. and Mrs . Mount also were guests.

They were married at Scottsburg in 1895 and have resided on thei r farm near here 25 years. Their cildren, in additon to Dr. Mou nt, are Miss Alma Mount, a teacher in the LaPorte schools; Mis s Ethel Mount, a teacher in the Noblesville schools; Mrs. Harr y Campbell of Indianapolis, Capt. M. L. Mount, stationed at For t Monmouth, New Jersey and Vernon (sic) Mount of Crawfordsville.1

One hundred twenty-five friends, teachers and former pupils atte nded the tea
yesterday afternoon in Park school auditorium honoring Miss Alm a Mount, who is retiring
after teaching there for 10 years and in the LaPorte public scho ol system since 1924.

Hosts for the party were the PTA retiring officers, Mrs. Herber t F. Kessler, president;
Mrs. Robert Hoke, vice president; Russel Palm, principal and sec ond vice president; Mrs
J. E. William, secretary, and Mrs. Merlin Sampson, treasurer.

Miss Mount was presented a corsage and a farewell gift from th e Park school PTA. Mrs.
Kessler and Mr. Palm greeted guests at the door, Mrs. Williams p resided at the guest
book and Mrs. Hoke and Mrs. Sampson at the punch bowl.

The table was covered in white lace over an orchid cloth and acc ented with an arrangement
of mixed flowers in shades of lavender in milk glass appoints wi th orchid candles and touches
of lilies-of-the-valley. White frosted cake slices with grape p unch and salted nuts were
served.

Others assisting the hosts were Mr. Wlater Boklund and Mrs. Wayn e Wilberg.

2. Alma May Mount, 1001 Monroe St., LaPorte, Ind. died Saturda y evening, June 24, 1978,
in Riverview Hospital. She was 81.

Miss Mount was a school teacher and retired 15 years ago. She w as born Sept. 18, 1896,
at Scottsburg, Ind., daughter of James and Annie (Murphy) Mount . She had lived in
LaPorte since 1924.

She was a graduate of Indiana University. She was a member of t he First United Methodist
Church, the Eastern Star, LaPorte County Retired Teachers Assn. , Delta Kappa Gamma, Pink
Lady of Pine Lake Hospital, all in LaPorte.

Survivors include two sisters, Ethel Mount, Noblesville, and Bes sie Campbell, Rocky Mount,
Va; three brothers, Mark Mount, Westfield, NJ; Verner Mount, Cra wforsville; and Dr. Mathias
Mount, Bloomfield, Ind; several nieces and nephews.

Rites will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, at the Coaltrin-Randal l & Roberts Funeral Home
with burial in Crownland Cemetery. Calling at the funeral hom e will be between 2-4 and
7-9 p.m. Tuesday.1

Ethel Mount is Named Director of Education.

Miss Ethel Mount, principal at 1st Ward School for 15 years wil l move up to the newly created post of Director of Elementary Ed ucation in the Noblesville's school system this fall.

Superintendent Dale V. Swanson yesterday announced Miss Mount' s promotion and said that she will be succeeded at 1st Ward by R obert Morris, currently principal at Federal Hill School. Rober t B. Ashlock, fifth grade teacher at Conner School, will becom e principal at Federal Hill, which will
place him in line for the principalship of the new school to b e built there next year.

An office for Miss Mount will be set up in the old gymnasium bui lding on Conner St. Swanson said that the Levinson Room probabl y will be remodeled for that purpose.

The new office was ordered created by the school board at a meet ing last week to coordinate the educational program in the eleme ntary grades and institute improvements in certain areas of inst ruction. Swanson said that the Noblesville educational system i s now large enough to need an elementary director. "This has bee n one of my objectives for a long time", he said. "Many of the b etter schools employ an elementary supervisor and we feel we ar e among the best," he added.

Miss Mount said that while the details of her new position are s till being worked out, she said one of her primary duties will b e helping teachers in the five elementary buildings provide cont inuity of learning among each grade. She also expects to devot e attention to beginning teachers and teachers entering bhe Nobl esville system for the first time.

Miss Mount has instructed at all three ward schools during her t enure here. She attended Valparaiso, Ball State and Indiana Univ ersity and obtained both her bachelor and masters degrees in edu cation at Indiana.

Funeral services were conducted last Thursday,
Dec. 5, at Noblesville, Ind for Ethel Berta Mount.

She was born on Dec. 5, 1898 in Scott County, the
daughter of James and Annie Murphy Mount.

She was a 1916 graduate of Scottsburg High School, served as
an educator for more than fifty years and was coordinator of
curriculum for the Noblesville public schools at the time of
her retirement.

Survivors include a sister, Bessie Ruth Campbell; and two
brothers, Mark Mount and Dr. Mathias Mount.

Burial was in Crownland Cemetery at Noblesville.

"Miss Ethel Mount to Retire, End 48-year Teaching Career"

Miss Ethel Mount, Director of Elementary Education and an educat or in the Noblesville
Schools for 48 years, will retire this year, effective July 19 . Teacher, principal,
and for the past nine years filled the post she currently holds , Miss Mount began
teaching in South Dakota, coming to Noblesville in 1920. She tau ght fourth grade at
Third Ward School and then at Junior High before becoming princi pal at First Ward,
a position she held for 17 years. She left First Ward nine year s ago when the
Director of Elementary Education post was created. A resident o f rural Noblesville,
on Road 238, Miss Mount said she has no plans other than to jus t "retire".

Mount was born December 5, 1898 in Leota, Ind., to James and Ann ie (Murphy) Mount.

Mount attended Valparaiso University and earned a Bachelor's deg ree and a master's
degree from Indiana University. She was a retired school teache r, principal, and
supervisor in Noblesville for 51 years. Mount was a member of F irst United Methodist
Church.

She is survived by sister Bessie Ruth Campbell, Moneta, Va; bro thers, Mark Mount,
Westfield, N. J. and M. S. Mount, Bloomfield, Ind.

Friends may call at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home, Noblesville , Wednesday, from
2 to 8 p. m. Services will be at the funeral home, Thursday a t 1 p. m. Rev. Philip
Dorrell will officiate. Burial will be at Crownland Cemetery.1

; BEAUTIFUL AND IMPRESSIVE WEDDING
A most beautiful and impressive wedding ceremony was preformed S unday, September 27th,
when Miss Fern Mount, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Mount, an d Clarence Patriquin, of
Laporte, Indiana, were married. The ceremony was at 12:30 o'clo ck at the country home
of the bride, east of this city. The bride was most becomingl y gowned in white canton
crepe, her bridal veil arranged with orange blossoms, and she ca rried a shower bouquet
of white roses and valley lilies. The attendant was Miss Alma M ount, sister of the
bride, who wore orchid georgette over pink crepe de chine and ca rried an arm bouquet
of pink roses. The best man was William Bauch, of Monticello, In diana. Mrs. James H.
Murphy, an aunt of the bride, sang "At Dawning" and "Oh, Promis e Me" preceding the
bridal ceremony, accompanied by Miss Beulah Trissal. To the str ains of Lohengrin's
wedding march, the bride, precedeed by the bridesmaid, descende d the stairway and met
the bridegroom before an altar of palms, ferns and roses. The m inister, Rev. A. R.
Sanks, pastor of the Methodist Church of Arcadia, Indiana, rea d the impressive ring
ceremony. Rev. Sanks was formerly the pastor of the church at Un ion Mills where Miss
Mount has been teaching.

Following the ceremony an elegant bridal dinner was served at sa mll tables. In the
center of the tables rested crystal bud vases holding pink roseb uds, rose cups in
orchid and pink, the bride's colors, contained the mints and ice s were in the form of
pink and orchid slippers. Assisting in the serving were: Mrs . C. N. Barker, Misses
Ethel Mount, Lenna Catherine Barker, Flo McDonald and Ruth Hibne r and Mark and Verner
Mount.

The happy couple left for a wedding trip East where they will sp end several weeks in
New York City, Boston and Providence, R.I., where they will be g uest of relatives of
Mr. Patriquin.

The bride's going away gown was green, satin back crepe, gray co at with hat and
accessories to match. They were accompanied as far as Indianapo lis by Mr. and Mrs.
C. N. Barker. Mr. and Mrs. Patriquin will reside in Laporte, In diana, 112 Second
street, and will be at home to their friends after November 15th .

Miss Mount has been a teacher at Union Mills, Indiana, where sh e has made many friends
by her winning personality and sterling character. The bridegro om is a most estimable
young man and is employed as a mechanic in Laporte.

The out of town guests included Mr. Nancy Murphy, grandmother o f the bride, and Miss
Goldie Mount, of Scottsburg, Ind; Mr. and Mrs. James H. Murph y and family, Mr. and Mrs.
Wm. Hibner and family and H. B. Murphy, all of Indianapolis; Mr . and Mrs. F. M. Cravens
of Franklin, Ind; Mr. and Mrs. William Bauch, of Monticello, In d; Mrs. Raymond Colver,
of Union Mills, Ind. Guests from Noblesville were Mr. and Mrs . C. N. Barker and daughter,
Lenna Katherine, A. D. Barker, Mr and Mrs. C. S. Meloy, Mr. an d Mrs. L. F. Everitt and
Misses Audrey Haworth, Beulah Trissal and Flo McDonald.1

Mr. Mount was an elevator engineer for Westinghouse at New Yor k from 1927 until his retirement in 1970.

Mr. Mount was born Dec. 8, 1904, in Scottsburg. He married Paul ine Mount, who survives.

An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Old Guar d at Westfield, NJ, the National Elevator Industries and the Ame rican Standard Committee of the National Elevator Industries. H e also was an honorary member of the executive committee of th e American Standard Committee.

Other survivors include a daughter, Ethel Anne Roeske, a siste r Bessie Ruth Campbell; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday in Crownland Cemetery , Noblesville, with the Rev. Larry Dimick officiating. Local ar rangements are being handled by Randall & Roberts, Logan Stree t Chapel at Noblesville..

     Matthias Maston Mount was born on 27 July 1839. He married Ruth Crowe on 16 June 1871 at Scott Co., Indiana, USA.

Matthias Maston Mount died on 25 February 1885 at Scott Co., Indiana, USA, at age 45.

5. When anyone went into Vienna, they would pick up the mail fo r everyone in the general area and leave it at Mount's store t o be picked up. Becoming concerned about this procedure, Mount m ade an application to become postmaster. Officials informed hi m that a post office couldn't be established unless the town ha d an official name. He named the town after his daughter, Leota , who had died of diptheria in 1876 at the age of two. On Augus t 8, 1884 the post office was established with that name. The po st office was moved to the county seat of Scottsburg in 1901.3
