I Willis Mecoy of Craven County in the State of North Carolina being weak in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory this ninth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred do make and declare this to be my las will and testament in manner and form following that is to say it is my will and I do direct that all my just debts and my funeral expenses be paid out of my personal estate by the executors hereafter appoint this (??) Mention of Thomas WILSON on p. 779: WILSON THOMAS, was born in 1785 in Buncombe county, North Carolina. Elizabeth Gardner was born in 1786 in Patrick county, Virginia. Her parents moved to Buncombe county, North Carolina, when she was a child. Thomas Wilson and Elizabeth Gardner were there married about 1804 and had two children in that county. They then moved to Warren county, Tennessee. The earthquake of December, 1811, on the Mississippi river so alarmed them that early in 1812 they returned to North Carolina. The govern men t having purchased the lands of the Cherokee Indians in East Tennessee, they removed to Monroe county, near Philadelphia, Loudon county, in 1818, and soon after moved a short distance into Roane county. They moved from there to Sangamon county, Illinois, in the spring of 1830. Five children were born in Tennessee. Of the seven children-
     GEORGE, born in Buncombe county, North Carolina, Nov. 27, 1806, married in Tennessee to Elizabeth McCoy, came to Sangamon county, wen t to Missouri, and from there to Texas.
     RACHEL, born in 1809, in North Carolina, married in Sangamon county to Martin McCoy. · They had three children, JOSEPH, THOMAS and .MARY.
Mrs. McCoy died in Springfield, and he near Au burn, Illinois.
MARY, born Jan. 3, 1812, in Buncombe county, North Carolina, married in Sangamon county to Dr. Charles D. Nuckolls. See his name.
     JACKSON, born in North Carolina, married Susan .Martin. They had one child, WILLIAM, who married Adaline Martin in Christian county, and now lives in Missouri. .Mrs. Susan Wilson died in Christian county, and Jackson Wilson lives in Texas.
     NANCY, born in Tennessee, married in Sangamon county to David Drennan. See his name.
     WILLIAM, born Jan. 18, 1819, m Tennessee, raised in Illinois, married 111 Missouri to Mary Murray, and lives m Texas.
     JAMES, born April 22, 1822, in Monroe or Roane county, Tennessee, came to Sangamon county in 1834, married Margaret Nuckolls, who died, and he married Elizabeth Courtney, who was born in Jacksonville, Illinois, Feb. 25, 1838, and they reside in Ball township, Sangamon county, Illinois.
Thomas Wilson died in the fall of 1830, and his widow died September, 1845, both in Sangamon county, Illinois. at Sangamon Co., Illinois, USA.3

     Power [1876:779] sayd : "WILSON, THOMAS, was born in 1785 in Buncombe Co., NC. Elizabeth Garender was born in 1786 in Patrick Co., VA. Her parents moved to Buncombe Co...when she was a child."
     Howevr, Buncombe Co., NC wasn't formed until 1791 from parts of Burke and Rutherford Counties. Patrick Co., VA was formed in 1791 from Henry Co.

     From exchange with "comingabout" on 23 July 2018 on Ancestry:
     (Message #1 by G Vaut): "Power says that Thomas was born in Buncombe Co., in 1795, but Buncombe wasn't formed until 1791 (from parts of Burke and Rutherford counties). There were a total of about 28 WILSON households in these two counties in the 1790 (according to Ancestry.
     In 1800 there were at least five WILSON households in Buncombe Co. with a male ca 15 yrs old, but no GARDNERS (Power says that Thomas's GARDNER parents-in-law moved to Buncombe and Thomas & Elizabeth married there in 1804). So one of these WILSONs is likely Thomas's parents.
     By 1810, there were 22 WILSON households in Buncombe Co. and 2 GARDNER families. One of the GARDNER families may be Elizabeth's parents.
     I'll have to compare the 1790, 1800 and 1810 WILSON families to see if I can narrow down the targets for his parents a little. The first targets might be the two WILSONs (Edward and George Jr.) on the same page as Thomas in the 1810 census.
     (Message #1 by G Vaut): "For the parents of Elizabeth GARDNER, there were two GARDNER households in Buncombe in 1810: John and Thomas (same page).
     John is older: aged 26-44, with two younger females, while Thomas is younger (aged 16-25). This would indicate that if Elizabeth's parents were there then (and actually counted), the household of John is the better candidate to be them.
     Of the two other WILSONs on the same page as Thomas in 1810 (Edward and George Jr.), Edward is older (aged 45+), while George Jr. is aged 26-44. However, there doesn't seem to have been and Edward WILSON in Buncombe Co. in 1800 (though there was one in Burke Co in 1790).
     If George, Jr. was the son of an older George, there was a George in Buncombe Co. in 1800 (aged 45+ with two sons aged 10-15 and one aged 16-25). Once can invent a plausible plausible story that the 1800 George, was George Sr., the father of the 1810 George, Jr. , and (with further invention) that These were the father (Sr.) and brother (Jr.) of our Thomas. But that's pretty heavy speculation. I haven't evaluated the other 1800 WILSONs yet (1 Johns, a Samuel, and 2 Williams - in addition to the 1 George).
     If Thomas was unmarried and if he living with his parents in 1800 (aged~15), the possible candidates for his father in the 1800 Buncombe Co. Census would seem to be:
     1. George (see above) - a possible candidate with his three sons possibly of Thomas's age
     2. John #1 (p. 194) - aged 16-25 - probably not a candidate, no sons of appropriate age
     3. John #2 (p. 194) - aged 45+, but no sons of appropriate age, so probably not a candidate
     4. Samuel (p. 192) - aged 26-44, but no sons of appropriate age, so probably not a candidate
     5. William #1 (p. 193) - aged 45+, with 2 sons 16-25, so a possible candidate
     6. William #2 (p. 194) - aged 26-44, with 2 males aged 10-15 and two aged 16-25, he's a good candidate
     This seems to me to yield three possible candidates for the father of Thomas: George, William #1 and William #2.3,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17

     Reference: The search for the parents of Thoms WILSON and Elizabeth GARDNER:
     Power [1876:779] sayd : "WILSON, THOMAS, was born in 1785 in Buncombe Co., NC. Elizabeth Garender was born in 1786 in Patrick Co., VA. Her parents moved to Buncombe Co...when she was a child."
     Howevr, Buncombe Co., NC wasn't formed until 1791 from parts of Burke and Rutherford Counties. Patrick Co., VA was formed in 1791 from Henry Co.

     From exchange with "comingabout" on 23 July 2018 on Ancestry:
     (Message #1 by G Vaut): "Power says that Thomas was born in Buncombe Co., in 1795, but Buncombe wasn't formed until 1791 (from parts of Burke and Rutherford counties). There were a total of about 28 WILSON households in these two counties in the 1790 (according to Ancestry.
     In 1800 there were at least five WILSON households in Buncombe Co. with a male ca 15 yrs old, but no GARDNERS (Power says that Thomas's GARDNER parents-in-law moved to Buncombe and Thomas & Elizabeth married there in 1804). So one of these WILSONs is likely Thomas's parents.
     By 1810, there were 22 WILSON households in Buncombe Co. and 2 GARDNER families. One of the GARDNER families may be Elizabeth's parents.
     I'll have to compare the 1790, 1800 and 1810 WILSON families to see if I can narrow down the targets for his parents a little. The first targets might be the two WILSONs (Edward and George Jr.) on the same page as Thomas in the 1810 census.
     (Message #1 by G Vaut): "For the parents of Elizabeth GARDNER, there were two GARDNER households in Buncombe in 1810: John and Thomas (same page).
     John is older: aged 26-44, with two younger females, while Thomas is younger (aged 16-25). This would indicate that if Elizabeth's parents were there then (and actually counted), the household of John is the better candidate to be them.
     Of the two other WILSONs on the same page as Thomas in 1810 (Edward and George Jr.), Edward is older (aged 45+), while George Jr. is aged 26-44. However, there doesn't seem to have been and Edward WILSON in Buncombe Co. in 1800 (though there was one in Burke Co in 1790).
     If George, Jr. was the son of an older George, there was a George in Buncombe Co. in 1800 (aged 45+ with two sons aged 10-15 and one aged 16-25). Once can invent a plausible plausible story that the 1800 George, was George Sr., the father of the 1810 George, Jr. , and (with further invention) that These were the father (Sr.) and brother (Jr.) of our Thomas. But that's pretty heavy speculation. I haven't evaluated the other 1800 WILSONs yet (1 Johns, a Samuel, and 2 Williams - in addition to the 1 George).
     If Thomas was unmarried and if he living with his parents in 1800 (aged~15), the possible candidates for his father in the 1800 Buncombe Co. Census would seem to be:
     1. George (see above) - a possible candidate with his three sons possibly of Thomas's age
     2. John #1 (p. 194) - aged 16-25 - probably not a candidate, no sons of appropriate age
     3. John #2 (p. 194) - aged 45+, but no sons of appropriate age, so probably not a candidate
     4. Samuel (p. 192) - aged 26-44, but no sons of appropriate age, so probably not a candidate
     5. William #1 (p. 193) - aged 45+, with 2 sons 16-25, so a possible candidate
     6. William #2 (p. 194) - aged 26-44, with 2 males aged 10-15 and two aged 16-25, he's a good candidate
     This seems to me to yield three possible candidates for the father of Thomas: George, William #1 and William #2.3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14 GAV-4.
