BIRTH     21 May 1830, Ohio, USA
DEATH     28 Nov 1870 (aged 40), Marshall County, Indiana, USA
Ann married Augustus Gaylord "A.G." Armstrong on 5 Jun 1850 in Seneca Co., Ohio. She was twenty years old. The couple had four children together--Lucius (b.1851), Dwight Leroy (1854-1927), Harry/Henry (b.1860) and Charlotte "Lottie" (b.1862). Newlyweds Augustus and Ann appeared together on the 1850 Census, living in My Division (the Plymouth area), Marshall, Indiana, enumerated on 19 Sep that year. Around the first of the year, Ann would have discovered that she was expecting their first child, son Lucius, born in August of 1851. Son Leroy would follow in 1854, and son Harry in 1860.
The five of them appeared together on the 1860 Census, living in West Twp. (part of Plymouth), Marshall, Indiana, where A.G. was farming for a living. Harry was five months old and enumerated simply as "Baby". Besides A.G., Ann and the three boys, A.G.'s 25-year-old younger brother John G. Armstrong was living with the family. Helping Ann out with the three children was 18-year-old live-in housemaid Lydia Vancamp.
The next decade was full of transitions for Ann. In 1862, she and A.G. welcomed a daughter. Little Lottie joined her three brothers, aged 2, 8 and 11. Their happiness would have been short lived as the unthinkable happened the following year and A.G. died on 9 May 1863 at age 38.
For six years, Ann managed their four young children on her own. Then on 19 Oct 1869 in Marshall Co., she married for the second time. Second husband George W. Cook was sixteen years her senior and also a farmer. She appeared with him on the 1870 Census, living in Walnut (today the Argos area), Marshall, Indiana. All four of the children were with her and George. 18-year-old William Harris was also living with the family.
Sadly, five months after that enumeration, Ann died at age forty. She was laid to rest next to her first husband.
** Son Lucius married Adalaide "Addie" R. Wescott in 1875. They didn't have any children together.
** Son Leroy married Lucinda Jane Lear on 23 Dec 1877 in Fulton Co, Indiana. They had three sons and five daughters together.
** Son Harry moved in with brother Leroy and his family.
** Daughter Lottie married Frank G. Middlekauff on 27 Jun 1892, also in Marshall Co.

LEWIS, MARTIN B., was born in Yates county, New York, November 20, 1820. After receiving an academical education he engaged in the mercantile business in his native-county until 1856, when he came to this city, and was for a few years engaged in the dry goods and real estate business. Having had the advantage of a theological education as well as a thorough religious training at home-his father being at one time a professor in Yale College-he, in 1860, gave up a successful business to engage in the work of harmonizing the Sabbath School interests of the different religious denominations of this State. To successfully carry out his noble undertaking, he has traversed every portion of this State, organized over 600 Sabbath Schools, and brought within the pale of this time-honored institution from twenty to twenty-five thousand scholars. He still resides in Red Wing, and with unabated zeal perseveres in the work which his Master has given him to do, annually visiting, encouraging, and assisting hundreds of Sabbath School organizations in different portions of the State.
He married Emma H. Williams in Washington county, New York, in 1848. She is a native of Orange county. Their children are Charles W., who died while a student of Hamline University, in this city, in 1865, aged 16 years; VWm. M., who was born in 1852, graduated at Ripon College, Wis. cousin, in 1877, and is now a student in Union Theological Seminary, New York; Emma H., who died June 4, 1855; George W., who was born in 1857, now a student in the State University, Minnesota; Mary M., who died in 1865, aged one year; Anna D., born in 1868, now attending school in this city, and Theodore L., who died in 1871, aged eight months.

Horatio "Aratia" Hudson was born on 1 November 1790 at Amherst Co., Virginia, USA; FindAGrave.com says b. 1790 in VA; SAR Application #100556 says ca 1787.3,4,5 He married Margaret "Peggy" Banks, daughter of John Banks and Mary Collier, in 1806 at Garrard Co., Kentucky, USA,
; "Aratia", (who was born in 1790) was 21 at the time per Clayton [1880:838]. Their son Joshua was apparently born in 1807 and their son James in May 1809 and two young boys (<10 yeasr old) are in Horatio's household in the 1810 census. Therefore, I believe they must have been married in or before 1807. GV Vaut [10 Oct 2017]
Banks project on WorldConnect states: "In 1806 in Culpeper Co., VA, Margaret Banks married Horatio Hudson. (letter 18 Jan 1974 from Malcolm H. Hudson of Longview, TX to Sarah Franklin of Rome, GA)".
HFA Bulletin [1983:44:10] states that Horation "Arasha" HUDSON and Margaret BANKS were cousins. Ms. Klooz in HFA [1976:17:22] also states that they were cousins. This may imply a link between Margaret's father, John BANKS, and Horatio's mother, Elizabeth BANKS, but I have not been able to identify the link. GA Vaut [17 Feb 2019].6,3,7,8,9,10,11
Horatio "Aratia" Hudson was buried before 1840 at Hudson Cemetery, Buckeye, Garrard Co., Kentucky, USA;
from FindAGrave.com:
     Birth:      1790, Virginia, USA
Death:      unknown, Garrard County, Kentucky, USA
I now believe that Horatio died before the 1840 census, when Margaret (adult female age 50-60) is listed in Garrard County, Ky with 2 females and 4 males (two adult sons still unmarried and living at home) and two minor sons and two minor daughters. Also in the household are 2 slaves - a male between age 10-23 and a female age 55-59.
If Horatio were still alive in 1840 he would undoubtedly be listed as head of household; instead, we see just Margaret and none of his married sons show an older male in their households. ~Nancy
Horatio Hudson, son of Joshua Hudson and Elizabeth Banks, was the grandson of Joshua Hudson, Sr. of Amherst Co., Virginia who wrote in his will:
"Whereas by my last Will & Testament executed the fifth day of January, 1799, I directed my Executors to Receive out of my Estate the Sum of Seventy five Pounds & Pay the same to Horatio & Nancy HUDSON Infant Children of Joshua HUDSON Dec'd in lieu of their father's Estate which fell into my hands which Estate has lately been demanded by the Executors of the said Children & delivered to them. It is therefore my Will & desire that the said Children do receive nothing further from my Estate than what they have already rec'd and that my Executors do receive from my Estate in manner aforesaid the said Seventy five Pounds and Pay the same to my Son Rush HUDSON - - Given under my hand & Seal this 16 day of November, 1800."
We see here that Horatio is referred to as an infant when he could have been as old as ten. In any case, he was born and still a minor by 1800.
In the 17 Dec 1799 will of Linn Banks (his mother's father), Horatio is referred to as "Arusha" Hudson, his only grandchild among ten heirs to share 733 acres and several slaves upon the death of Linn's wife (Kentucky Genealogist, vol 4).
In 1806 in Culpeper Co., VA, Margaret Banks married Horatio Hudson. (letter 18 Jan 1974 from Malcolm H. Hudson of Longview, TX to Sarah Franklin of Rome, GA). Note: this is contradicted by Margaret's grave stone which states "born in Garrard Co, Ky."
In July, 1895, Horatio's son Lynn Banks Hudson told his granddaughter Elizabeth Mae Mathers that his father and mother, Horatio Hudson and Margaret Banks had come to Kentucky in a covered wagon from Culpeper Co., VA with her parents John and Mary Collier Banks. They were related, possibly cousins, " quoted from "Descendants of Lynn Banks Hudson," by Marie S. Kloos, Washington, DC, 1955, as quoted in Malcolm Hudson letter. Note: this is contradicted by Margaret's grave stone which states "born in Garrard Co, Ky."
They settled in Garrard County and raised 11 children. In the late 1840s, several of his adult children and their families headed to Davidson County, Tennessee where they were farmers and stock raisers. Horatio's wife, Margaret "Peggy" Banks Hudson, is found in the census records of 1850 living with her daughter Malvina Hudson Jennings and in 1860 with another daughter, Mary Hudson Duncan. Update: Margaret Banks Hudson has been confirmed buried at Spring Hill cemetery, Davidson County, Tennessee. The entry for her in the Garrard County cemetery book is incorrect.
While it is possible that Horatio was alive and living in Kentucky at the time I suspect he had died before his wife went to Tennessee (pre-1850). A date of July 31, 1860 was found among online family trees but without source documentation. Tombstone inscriptions for Horatio and Margaret appear to have been interchanged over time. The Garrard Cemetery book lists Horatio with ND (no dates).
     Horatio's children:
      Joshua Banks Hudson
      James Banks Hudson
      William Banks Hudson
      Washington Banks Hudson
Malvina Banks Hudson - married (1) Jennings (2) Parker (3) Cleavinger
      Lynn Banks Hudson

      Isaiah Banks Hudson

Note on this cemetery: A map was added to FAG in 2017 for Hudson Cemetery. I believe the exact location may be about 2,000 feet west of that spot. If you can go there, contact me for maps showing the abandoned road. Nancy

Horatio "Aratia" Hudson died before 1840 at Garrard Co., Kentucky, USA; place of death from SAR #100556.3,4
      ;
per Nancy Reddy [Email 23 Feb 2017]: "Horatio Hudson, as a child, is mentioned in both a paternal and maternal (Linn Stanton BANKS) grandfather's will. In the 17 Dec 1799 will of Linn Stanton Banks, Horatio (referred to as "Arusha" Hudson) was listed as his only grandchild among ten heirs to share 733 acres and several slaves upon the death of Linn's wife, Sally Proctor. They both died in Garrard County, Kentucky; Sally lived until 1827.
Horatio is also mentioned in the 5 Feb 1799 will of his grandfather Joshua Hudson Sr., leaving him a bequest and referring to him as a child. (Amherst Co., VA Will Bk 4, p 6) He was also mentioned in a codacil by Joshua, 9 Nov 1800, indicating he and his brother had been given their share of their father's estate (probably same source).
A family story passed down... "In July, 1895, Horatio's son Lynn Banks Hudson told his granddaughter Elizabeth Mae Mathers that his father and mother, Horatio Hudson and Margaret Banks had come to Kentucky in a covered wagon from Culpeper Co., VA with her parents John and Mary Collier Banks. They were related, possibly cousins, " quoted from "Descendants of Lynn Banks Hudson," by Marie S. Kloos, Washington, DC, 1955, as quoted in Malcolm Hudson letter. This is contradicted by Margaret Hudson gravestone. which has been confirmed to read "Born Garrad Co., Ky."13 GAV-3. He was a mentioned with Washington Banks Hudson and Louisa Marksberry; per Clayton [1880:483]: "Washington B. Hudson is descended from English ancestry who came to this country at a very early day and settled in Virginia, where two of them remained, while one removed to New York and settled on the Hudson River.
Of the two remaining in Virginia, from one, Reuben [sic], is descended the subject of this sketch.
Joshua Hudson, grandfather of Washington, lived in Amherst Co., Va., and was a wealthy and influential farmer, the owner of much land and many slaves, as was killed by the falling of a tree. He was a soldier in the war of 1812.
Aratia Hudson was his only son , who at the age of twenty-one married a Miss Banks, of Garrard co., Ky. Their children were Joshua, James, Washington B., Dr. Lynn B., Nancy, Isaiah B., Reuben, Melvina, Commodore Perry, and Mary Louisa.
Washington B. Hudson was born July 3, 1813, in Garrard co., Ky., on sugar Creek. His boyhood and early manhood were spent at home. Aug. 26, 1833, he was married to Miss Louisa Marksbury, youngest daughter of Isaac Marksbury, a prominent man in his day. He was magistrate of the court for more than twenty years, a man noted for his many good qualities of head and heart, and an active and efficient member of the Christian Church.
The children of W. B. and L. M. Hudson have been William D., Aratia, Isaac M. James, Mollie Lynn, Clayton A., Allie and Thomas J.
Washington B. Hudson after his marriage engaged in farming on his own account. In 1848 he came to Davidson Co., Tenn., and settled on the farm he now occupies, purchasing it from Dr. James Overton. His original purchase was five hundred and fifty-four acres, to which, however, he added from time to until his farm comprised eight hundred acres of excellent land, three hundred acres of which he still retains, the rest having been apportioned to his children on their marriage.
Mr. and Mrs. Hudson are members of the Christian Church, a pretty edifice, of which stands at the food of the lane leading to their house, Mr. Hudson bearing the principal part of the cost of its erection."14 Horatio "Aratia" Hudson was a mentioned with Mary Collier and John Banks; From Banks WorldConect: "In July, 1895, Horatio's son Lynn Banks Hudson told his granddaughter Elizabeth Mae Mathers that his father and mother, Horatio Hudson and Margaret Banks had come to Kentucky in a covered wagon from Culpeper Co., VA with her parents John and Mary Collier Banks. They were related, possibly cousins, " quoted from "Descendants of Lynn Banks Hudson," by Marie S. Kloos, Washington, DC, 1955, as quoted in Malcolm Hudson letter."
Banks has also commented on the proposed linkage of John Banks as a son of Tunstall Banks: "His relationship to Tunstall Banks is only conjectural -- two of Tunstall's sons moved to Culpeper Co. -- John would have been the third. No other Bankses are good candidates."
I have seen this statement on many family trees to justify assigning Margaret as a dau. of John and Mary (COLLIER) BANKS. I have not been able to find the original 1955 study by Marie Klooz ("Descendants of Lunn Banks Hudson") to confirm it, but a brief descandancy report in HFA Bulletin [1976:17:22] by Ms. Klooz (copy attached) repeats the marriage of Horatio HUDSON to "his cousin, Margaret BANKS, dau. of John BANKS and Mary COLLIER..." Ms. Klooz does not portray the family relationship between Horation and Margaret that made them cousins.15,16,17,11

Margaret "Peggy" Banks was born on 1 November 1790 at prob. Culpeper Co., Virginia, USA; FindAGrave says b. in Garrad Co., KY.2,4,5 She married Horatio "Aratia" Hudson, son of Joshua Hudson Jr. and Elizabeth Banks, in 1806 at Garrard Co., Kentucky, USA,
; "Aratia", (who was born in 1790) was 21 at the time per Clayton [1880:838].
GA Vaut [17 Feb 2019].1,2,6,7,8,9,10

GAV-3. She was a mentioned with Washington Banks Hudson and Louisa Marksberry; per Clayton [1880:483]: "Washington B.
Hudson bearing the principal part of the cost of its erection."11 Margaret "Peggy" Banks was a mentioned with Mary Collier and John Banks; From Banks WorldConect: "In July, 1895, Horatio's son Lynn Banks Hudson told his granddaughter Elizabeth Mae Mathers that his father and mother, Horatio Hudson and Margaret Banks had come to Kentucky in a covered wagon from Culpeper Co., VA with her parents John and Mary Collier Banks.
Klooz does not portray the family relationship between Horation and Margaret that made them cousins.3,12,13,10

Margaret "Peggy" Banks appeared in the census of 1840 at Garrard Co., Kentucky, USA; [Note: The children in the household seem to match for the most part, except for the of only one male age 15-19. Both Isaiah (b1821) and Reuben (b1822) would fit this, but one seems to be missing. James H., Washington, and Malvina were married by 1840. There is one unidentified female age 10-14 (i.e., b. 1826-30). There is an Isaac Marksberry several lines later who may have been related to Louisa Marksberry, wife of Washington Banks (their son), but this Isaac is to young to be Louisa's father (also named Isaac).]

While lady-in-waiting to Maria of Castile, the wife of Alfonso V 'the Magnanimous', king of Aragón and Naples, she became Alfonso's mistress and they had a son Ferrante I who would have progeny. Alfonso was said to have been very fond of Margarita.

Alfonso left Maria of Castile as regent in Aragón while he spent time in his Italian realms of Naples and Sicily. About 1423 Maria who was childless herself, out of jealousy, caused Margarita, who was said to have been pregnant, to be strangled. Alfonso never forgave Maria or saw her again for the remaining twenty-six years of marriage.

Margarita and Alfonso's son Ferrante succeeded him in Naples, while Sicily and Sardinia were inherited by Alfonso's brother Juan II, king of Navarre, who also succeeded him as king of Aragón."1

Under a further projected partition 1262, Aragon, Catalonia and Valencia were destined for Pedro. He succeeded his father in 1276 as PEDRO III "el Grande" King of Aragon, Conde de Barcelona and King of Valencia, crowned at Zaragoza Nov 1276. He suppressed the revolt in Valencia, ending with the capture of Montesa in 1277. He confirmed his protectorate over Tunis. He landed at Trapani in Sicily 31 Aug 1282, after the Sicilian revolt against the Angevins, and declared himself PIETRO I King of Sicily. He was excommunicated by Pope Martin IV, who supported the Angevins, in Nov 1282. In the course of the escalating dispute, Philippe III King of France was persuaded to accept the Kingdom of Aragon for his second son Charles in Feb 1284. In Sep 1284, Pedro crushed the rebellion of Juan Núñez de Lara who attempted to establish an independent lordship of Albarracín. King Philippe III invaded Aragon in early 1285 and briefly captured Girona 7 Sep 1285. The French retreated to Perpignan (where King Philippe III died 5 Oct) after their fleet was destroyed in the Bay of Roses 3-4 Sep by admiral Ruggiero di Loria. On his deathbed, Pedro renounced Sicily as the price of his peace with the church. The Crónica de San Juan de la Peña records the death "III Id Nov" in 1285 of King Pedro and his burial "en el monasterio de Santas Cruçs del Orden de Cistells"[436]. The Chronicle of Ramon Muntaner records the death "le jour de Saint-Martin" in 1285 of "le roi Pierre" and his burial "au monastère de Sainte-Croix"[437]. A manuscript chronicle records the death "circa festum S. Martini" in 1285 of "Petrus rex Aragonum" and his burial "in ecclesia beatæ Mariæ sanctarum Crucum ordinis Cisterciensis"[438].
