"Other: War 1812. Reuben is listed in the Silver Creek area of Madison County, KY between 1803 and 1805. 1803: 10003; one male over 21 and 3 horses. 1804: 10002; one male over 21 and 2 horses.Same for 1805. Reuben disappears about the same time his uncle Benjamin1759-1854 disappears from Madison County, KY. "It is likely that he is the Reuben Todd who appeared in the Madison County, KY tax lists 1803-1805 since we know his brother, William, married in Madison County. This would mean that he came from GA to KY five or six yrs aft the main 1796 migration of Todds from Rowan County, NC to Madison County, KY." Reuben was on 1810 Rutherford County, TN Census: 1M 16/26, 1F 16/26,and 1F u 10. I have seen his name spelled Reubin and Rubin, but his military records have Reuben. "Deed Book Z page 120, Alfred P Gowen to Reubin Todd, 100 acres, indenture Jan 17, 1842 for $248.00, Reg Jan 18, 1842. On the date of Mar 23, 1871 Reuben Todd appeared before the court at the age of 86, resident of Rutherford County, stated his wife as Gemmated, whom he m. aft the War of 1812, and stated he served in the War of 1812, that his bro, William Todd, was a Lt in his company, and was stationed mostly at Fort Williams, AL; was in several skirmishes with Indians when he crossed through the Cherokee Nation. He was at Fort Lasly in Talledega aft the fights and has drawn two land warrants, 80acres each. Declaration of Surviving Soldier for Pension, Act of Feb14, 1871, Original #4418 and Certificate #3517. D P Jacobs and Aaron Runnels witnessed his mark. He was in Cpt Abner Pierce's CO TN MilitiaPvt, commanded by Maj William Woodfolk. He enlisted 20-Sep-1814 and discharged 10-Apr-1815. Full Pension Application and his length of service was 203 days, which states he d.on 17-Dec-1883.
"Family Finder DNA tests done in 2011 show that Reuben was not the son of Mary Todd and that Walker Todd b 1822, though related, was not a nephew. Though some of the Family Finder tests were contradictory, one sample from a descendant of Abel Todd b 1795 test, one from a desc of Reuben Todd b 1785 and one from a desc of John Todd b 1770-80 , suggested that they were all brothers and therefore sons of Caleb Todd b 1751. Jemima, in her application for a widow's pension in 1885, swore that the family records had been destroyed, but she believed Reuben was 107 years old at the time of his death. A newspaper article (NB & NW,11-19-1880) named Reuben Todd of Dist 25, age 100, the oldest man in Rutherford County, TN. Resided in Rutherford County, TN near Big Springs. Census: William 62 GA, Jane 59 KY, Alexander 24 - RU CO HH# 791/609. Marriage bond of William Todd and Jane Douglass, both of Madison County, dated Jan 10, 1804 and signed by William Todd and William Glenn. Robert Elkins m. William and Jane.
"Previous historians thought that William and Reuben were sons of Mrs. Mary Todd 1762-1866 and therefore uncles to Walker Todd b 1822. Family Finder DNA in 2011 shows that Walker was related to William and Reuben but not so close as uncles to nephew. Though the Family Finder tests were somewhat contradictory, one of the Abel Todd tests showed brotherhood connection to both John Todd b 1770-80 and Reuben Todd b 1785.
"Edna Todd Lackie wrote in 1985 that she and Jean Douglas Van Meter went looking for William's grave. "I had searched for years with no success. Many old markers had fallen apart. Jean and I started digging around the front of some old ones and dug up enough pieces to put together just like a jigsaw puzzle and there they were, dates and names. It was so exciting for us. In the following fall, my brothers and sisters pooled enough money to make new markers for William, Jane, Levi, and Mary. We set them at their graves on top of the pieces from the old markers. Two hundred years from now, if someone starts digging, will they be surprised!"
"William was on the 1809/10/11 Rutherford County, TN tax records.
"He was a 1st Lt in War of 1812 and served in the 2nd RGT of the West Tonsillitis INF from 20-Sep-1814 until 20-Mar-1815. He enlisted under Col Alex Lowry and Cpt James Kincaid, and I have a copy of the CO Muster Roll for this time period. The National Archives in Washington has no record of a Full Pension Application. I have a copy of another document showing his "Cpt discharged him on 07-Dec-1815," for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land to which he may be entitled. The document was signed by William Todd and witnessed by Lewis Harrell,JP. Col Alexander Lowry and Lt Col Leroy Hammons, Designation, 2nd RGTWest TN Militia, Sep 1814/Apr 1815. Men mostly from Davidson, Warren, Humphreys, Lincoln, Maury, Robertson, Smith, Sumner, White, and Williamson Counties. Cpts: James Craig, Thomas Delaney, James Kincaid, John Looney, Gabriel Mastin, Asahel Rains, George Sarver, James Tubb,Thomas Wells, and Joseph N Williamson. Brief History: Part of GenNathaniel Taylor's brigade, this regiment was scattered throughout the Creek territory and the vicinity of Mobile to man the various forts in the region; Forts Jackson, Montgomery, Claiborne, and Pierce. Some of the companies participated in the taking of Pensacola (07-Nov-1814)from Spanish authorities that were accused by Jackson of supporting British troops there. Lowry resigned on 20-Nov-1814 and Lt Col Leroy Hammonds took over as commander. The regiment was plagued by disease during its tenure in the MS Territory. For example, a morning report of Cpt Asahel Rains on 06-Jan-1815 shows twenty-seven on the sick list and twenty-seven additional men required to take care of the sick (totaling half the company).
"Was a 1st Lieutenant in War of 1812, and served in the 2nd Regiment of the West Tennessee Militia from 20-Sep-1814 until 10-Apr-1815. He enlisted under Colonel Alex Lowry and Captain James Kincaid."

Online family trees differ about Elizabeth's place of birth. Some trees list Rowan County, North Carolina while others list Northampton County, Pennsylvania.
The name of Elizabeth Todd's father is also open to question.
Sue Gregory (FG member #47091070) provided the following information about Elizabeth Todd:
          Name: Elizabeth Legrand
          Gender: Female
          Marriage Date: 6 Jul 1803
          Bondsman: Peter Legrand
          Witness: Lucy Legrand; Eliza McCain
          Father: Peter LeGrand
          Spouse: William Todd
in the Fayette County, Kentucky, Marriage Index, 1803-1814
This is the Elizabeth that is connected to William Aaron Todd in most of the family histories found on Ancestry.
However, Carl Thompson (FG #47069129) states on the FG memorial for Elizabeth's husband (William Todd, #61571087) that Elizabeth was the daughter of Caleb Todd, William Todd's uncle. That information, if accurate, would make Elizabeth and William cousins.
Grave moved in 1942 from tract 81-E, C.F. Parks heirs place.
Note: The fact that Elizabeth Jemina Todd’s name appears on the 1942 U.S. Army Grave Removal List indicates that a gravestone existed for her at that time. However, since then the Blue Grass Memorial Cemetery has become neglected and overgrown. Vandals have toppled and broken many gravestones. Wind and ice storms have also caused trees to fall on the gravestones. Although a gravestone may still exist it has not yet been located.

"William Todd was born Pennsylvania in 1765 or 1768 and came to Rowan County as an infant . There he grew to adulthood and about 1790 he married a cousin, Elizabeth Todd daughter of his uncle Caleb Todd.
"The 1790 Rowan County,NC tax list/census, Salisbury Dist, list him as 1 male over 16, 1male under 16, and 3 FreeWhite Females. If these were his children, then this would suggest that he had married somewhat prior to 1790 and that his oldest children were slightly older than historians have estimated their births.
"He brought his growing family to Madison Co KY about 1797 and there the last four of his children were born.
"In 1799, he bought 50 acres on Silver Creek and then in 1801 he bought another 30 acres on Muddy Creek near his kinfolk. Since he was not taxed on the Silver Creek land, we suspect that he rented out the land to his wife's siblings: John Todd b 1773, Caleb Todd and Joshua Todd b 1769. It was on Silver Creek that John Todd settled and appeared in the tax lists, even prior to his buying land. However, it could also be that the land lay where Muddy Creek and the Hays Fork of Silver Creek approach each other.
"William died in 1849. His will reads: Madison County, KY Will Book J page 190, 29-Nov-1838 and proved 05-Nov-1849: "This is to certify that I, William Todd of Madison County, State ofKY, has this 29th day of Nov in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and thirty eight, made this my Last Will and Testament, being somewhat frail in body but sound in mind and memory. First, my wish is that my body be buried in decency and my funeral charges paid, Amen. Also all my lawful debts paid, if any, by my executors hereafter named. Second, my will is that my gson, Madison Todd, has the benefit of my farm for the term of five years from the first day of Jan 1839.The whole and sole involvement thereof on which I now reside and do so as long as I shall live, he is to have the same benefit and privileges. Thirdly, immediately aft my decease my land and holdings and kitchen furniture, and all the rest of my property be sold by my executors at public sale giving same to the credit thereon and so somas the money is collected, both of the former and last sales, then division to be made among my heirs as followeth: "I wish my beloved daughter, Sally Todd, to have an equal share of the said estate above named. Also, I give and bequeath to my beloved son, Caleb Todd, an equal share of said estate. Also I give and bequeath to my dau, Polly Skinner's sons, one-eighth part of my estate; to Madison Todd, he is to have one-half of the eighth part and the other half to be equally divided between Silas Todd and William Todd, heirs of Polly Skinner. Also I give unto my beloved daughter, Zipporah Dodd, an equal part of said estate, also I give unto my beloved son, John Todd, equal part of said estate, also I give unto my beloved daughter, Elizabeth Cullen and the lawful heirs of her body, an equal part of said estate, also Give unto my beloved son, Thomas Todd, and equal share of said estate. "Also I give unto by beloved daughter, Hannah Quinn (Guinn) an equal share of said estate, also I wish and give unto Madison Todd one hundred dollars for the attention paid to me in addition of what I have already given him in the will. Also I give unto Elizabeth Shannon, my granddaughter, fifty dollars out of my estate. I appoint to this my Last Will and Testament, John Todd, Madison Todd and Thomas Ballew, executors of this will. Whereunto I have set my hand and affixed my seal the day and year first written above. Wits: Irv Searcy, G W Broaddus, and J D Park. KY, Madison County Court: "I, J M Shackelford, Clk of the County of said county to certify that at a County Court held for said county on the fifth day of Nov, eighteen hundred and forty nine, this instrument of writing was produced in open court and proven to be the Last Will and Testament of William Todd, decd, by the oaths of George W Broaddus and Joshua
"Notes and Documentation: He was not listed in the Rowan County, North Carolina Marriage Records 1754-1866 by Frances T. Ingmire. Edna Todd Lackie has William's Date of birth as 28-Apr-1765. If he were b. in1765 instead of 1768, Aaron and William would not be twins, as listed in other records. She also compiled the families of William Todd(father) and sons, John and Caleb, from family records of Sadie Ralston Kuhlman, Paint Lick, KY. 01-Apr-1799 Indenture made from John Bryant and wife, Mary Bryant, to William and Elizabeth Todd for land on Silver Creek in Madison County,KY, 50 acres more or less. 1801 Book E, John Dollard to William Todd, 33acres on Muddy Creek.      Reference: Per McMurtry [2013]:
William is listed on the tax records of Madison County, KY with these 33 acres on Muddy Creek1802-1809, then 33 plus 50 from 1814 to 1818, the 80 acres on Muddy in 1819-1820. It is almost as if the land lay where Muddy Creek and Silver Creek approach each other." at Citation.3

John Todd was born on 25 May 1773 at Easton, Northampton Co., Pennsylvania, USA.1 He married Martha Patsy Collier on 14 October 1797 at Madison Co., Kentucky, USA.2,1

John Todd died on 15 April 1839 at Madison Co., Kentucky, USA, at age 65.1
     Reference: Per McMurtry [2013]:
"John Todd was born in 25 March 1773 (per family bible) in Rowan County, NC. A North Carolina birth is confirmed by the 1880 census entry for John's son Joel who indicated that his father was born in NC. By 1821, John Todd had settled on Hayes Fork of Silver Creek, a few miles southwest of Muddy Creek where Benjamin Todd and his family had settled when they came to Madison Co. John has previously been identified by earlier historians as son of Caleb Todd b 1730/1740 presumably because Benjamin Toddb 1721/1731 was thought to have a son John b 1752. However, the John born 1752 probably died young because there are no references to him other than the birth date.
"Benjamin b 1721/1731 has a male over 16 living with him in 1790 as well as 2 males under 16. So there is space in Benjamin's family for this John b 1773. Also, Caleb Todd b1730/1740 only had 4 sons in 1790, presumed to be Caleb, Joshua, Benjamin and Joseph. Shortly after the Todds arrival in Madison County, John married Patsy Collier in the summer or early fall of 1797 (14 Aug 1797 in the Bible record, 7 Nov 1798 in the court bond). John appears on the tax lists of Madison Co beginning in 1797. He is taxed on 102 acres between 1804 and 1822, sometimes on Hays Fork and sometimes of Silver Creek, suggesting that he was on Hays Fork of Silver Creek during this entire period. In 1821, he bought another 32 acres (possibly 50 acres) on Hays Fork (Book F, page ?) and was taxed on 152 acres after that date. in 1832, he bought another 120 acres on Silver Creek. Since John was being taxed on land for which there is no record of his buying prior to 1821, it is possible that the was occupying and farming the land of William Todd who purchased 50 acres on Silver Creek in 1799 and then 100 acres on Silver Creek in 1811.
"In 1819, John's father-in-law, John Collier sold John Todd land on Muddy Creek. John died 15 April 1839 (per family bible). Darwin Newton reports that John was bondsman on the marriage of one of William Todd's daughters in 1817 (presumably Elizabeth Todd md 1817 John McCollum). Since William Todd's son John was only 18 years old in 1817, then the John Todd who appeared as bondsman on the marriage record must have been John Todd b 1773. This further supports the sense of a close association between John Todd b 1773 and William Todd b 1768 son of Benjamin and William's wife Elizabeth (dau of Caleb Todd b 1731), but is not useful in clarifying whether Benjamin or Caleb was his father.
"Darwin writes, "There is a marriage bond on file in Madison County, KY for John Todd and Patsy Collier. It was issued7-Nov-1798 with Walter Barclay as the bondsman and consent from John'Cholar' as father of the bride. There are estate records for John'Collier' that confirm his dau, Patsy, m. John Todd." Walter Barclay was connected to the Todds via Benjamin Todd's marriage to Margaret Barclay in Rowan Co. A Todd historian has noted: "There is also a note of an additional sale bill of 05-Apr-1841 that may well be a logical disposition of the dower aft Martha's death.". but Martha didn't die until 1846. John Todd d. on 15-Apr-1839 and Martha Todd d. 18-May-1846. On the three geographically ordered tax lists for Madison County in this era, John appeared on the list that had only himself, Benjamin Todd m to Alsey Nickerson, and briefly Reuben and William. This Benjamin, Reuben and William were all grandsons of Benjamin b 1721/1731. The male DNA test of a descendant of John showed that John was kin to the Rowan Co/Madison Co KY Todds. The Family Finder DNA test results were ambiguous though one of the samples showed a closer connection to three descendants of Benjamin Todd than to the second sample from the Caleb Todd lines." at Citation.1

GONE TO HIS REWARD: Death of Japheth Todd, of Andrew County
Japeth Todd [sic], one of the oldest citizens of Andrew county, and a gentleman well known and highly respected throughout the Northwest, died last Sunday morning at his residence, about six miles distant from this city, after a protracted illness of several months. Mr. Todd was born in Estelle county, Kentucky, upon the 4th day of June, 1808. He removed with his parents to Missouri, while yet a child, and lived for a number of years in that large section of country lying north of the Missouri river, at time known as Howard county. Mr. Todd was married in 1838, and seven children were the offspring of the reunion. The mother was called away from earth about a month ago. The father did not long survive this sad bereavement. An insidious disease had for some time been preying upon his vitals, and the loss of his beloved wife hastened his final dissolution. Last Sunday morning he breathed his last, in the blessed hope of an eternity of bliss with the dear ones who had preceded him. Japheth Todd was a gentleman of the old school--an honest, honorable, upright, Christian man. To know him was to respect and love him. The loss of such a man cannot be too sincerely lamented

     Passing Away
On Wednesday, March 31st, another of the old citizens of the Northwest passed from life, and is now numbered with the dead. We refer to Mrs. Huldah A. Todd.
She was born in Estel county, Kentucky, on the 12th day of July, 1812, an in the year 1838 was married to Jeptha Todd. She had been a member of the regular Baptist Church for forty years. She leaves a family of seven children, four boys and three girls, only one of whom is married. One by one the links that bind the present prospects to the posts of privation are being severed, and soon the last one will be broken.
