White Rose Cemetary, Bartlesville, OK (Call No. 976.696/B1.v22i at the SLC FHC) reports 'John C. GRAY, b. 3 Feb 1877, d. 8 Mar 1953; and Nola Jane GRAY, b. 8 Dec. 1877.' No death date listed, but she died in Oct 1959, and the book was printed in 1958. A letter from Betty GRAY PETERS (in posession of D. R. WILSON) reads: '...John C. Gray (1877-1953), another son of this [Carlo B.'] Gray family is a well known pioneer of Bartlesville. Born in Virginia he moved with his parents to Caney in 1893 and to Bartlesville where in 1895 he helped establish the Gray Brothers Dollar Store. But prior to this business venture, John C. Gray was a school teacher and taught at the Jesse Creek School which was just southwest of Bartlesville and just over the line in Osage Co. in those early days. It was a log building standing on the west bank of Jesse Creek. In 1898 Miss Nola Jane Edmonson came to Bartlesville to visit her cousin, Mrs. James Gray. She stayed and taught the city school when it was a one-room frame building on the grounds at Garfield. This was in 1898. On Oct. 4, 1900 she and Mr. John C. Gray were married. In 1899 she taught at the Silver Lake School. In 1912 Mr. John C. Gray purchased the Coco-Cola Bottling Works at BArtlesville and started manufacturing all kinds of soft drinks. They were the parents of four children, all girls: Jewell who married Dean Shroeder; Cloe (1905-1962) married F. W. Alexander; Ruth who married O. L. Thee; and Bessy Jane who married Wayne Peck.'
