Once she went intotown and dropped off her umbrella and two others for minor repairs. Shethen spent some time perusing other stores. In one store she picked upher packages and a nearby umbrella, just by habit. A man quickly caughtup with her and informed her that she had taken his umbrella.Apologizing, she withdrew. On the way home, she picked up her threeumbrellas and boarded the streetcar, only to encounter the same managain, who said 'I see business was good today'.2

While in West Chester, FJD was a director of the Bank of Chester Countyand a trustee of the West Chester State Normal School.
