AsaRoberts, b. 1795, was the son of Samuel Roberts, b. 1746 and HannahStiles, son of Enoch Roberts, b. 1717 and Rachel Coles, son of JohnRoberts who m. Mary Elkinton, of Burlington, son of John and SarahRoberts, who came from Ourton, England, in the ship Kent, landing at whatis now Burlington in 1677; all members of the Society of Friends. Beforeleaving England John Roberts purchased from the Proprietors the right toone-sixteenth part of a one-hundredth part of the lands in West Jersey,and after his arrival purchased from the Indians the right to locateamound them and to secure their good will.¹
