     A BIG thanks to Alicia for photographing this headstone and posting it to findagrave.com. I am a Pugh researcher and have combed the Caddo cemetery looking for this one and somehow overlooked it.
     On the 1860 census record, H. C. Pugh is listed in Dallas County with is parents, J. N. Pugh and wife Rhoda, along with other family members, P S Pugh, age 20; Jesse Pugh, age 19, John B. Pugh, age 13, George A. Kelly, age 12, William Kelly, age 7, and William C. Pugh, age 6.
     Research leads us to believe that Jesse N. Pugh and Rhoda are also the parents of Mastin Green Pugh. The Pugh family was in the Caddo area after the Dallas County census; some of them are listed on the 1870 census. We know Mastin G. Pugh and wife Sarah Ann Johnson were there, too, during the 1870's, because their son, John Wesley Pugh, was born there in 1874, but we have not found them on a census record. (Edit June 9, 2015. Information from finders keepers shows record of Rock Creek Baptist Church, Johnson County, Texas. M. G. Pugh and S. A. Pugh were charter members according to the church clerk's records. That book was donated to the "Fort Worth Baptist Theological Seminary." No idea if that is the same as Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary which is located in Fort Worth.)
     Research also indicates that JNP and Rhoda were the parents of Simon Jessup Pugh.
     H. C. Pugh is on the 1870 census record of Fort Worth, Tarrant County. HCP was married to Mary F. ____, and they had one daughter, Margaret. (Edit June 9, 2015. Information on finders keepers gives information that H. C. Pugh was married to Mary Florence Hudson, daughter of Isaiah Banks Hudson and Jemima R. Schooler. They were in the Johnson County, Texas area.)
     On the 1870 census of Johnson County, Texas there is a listing for G. N. Pugh. We believe this is actually J. N. Pugh. To date we have not found a death record for JNP nor his wife Rhoda.
     Mastin and Sarah Pugh moved on to the far west Tarrant County area, in the vicinity of Silver Creek Road and FM 1886 (now Confederate Parkway). The family cemetery was located there and thankfully a picture of it was taken. The cemetery was destroyed by a new home developer but the gravestones were found by people who were having a home built. Appropriate authorities were called, work was halted, the Texas Historical Society became involved, a court hearing was held. The builder was required to pay to have the graves excavated and moved to new graves at the historic Oakwood Cemetery on the north side of Fort Worth (on Grand Avenue). New markers were also made, but they are either misidentified or not identified. Mastin's grave is now identified as M.E. or M.A.Pugh instead of M. G. Pugh. Sarah's is not identified at all. Altogether there are 9 graves - we suspect that one of them may be Jesse N. Pugh but have no record. Others are infant children of the Pugh family.
     The Pugh graves are now in a cemetery within the cemetery. As horrible as it was to find out the cemetery was destroyed, reburial at Oakwood was appropriate. John Wesley Pugh, son of Mastin and Sarah, along with his wife, Mary Elizabeth Miller Pugh, and other Pugh descendants are also buried at Oakwood.
     Finding H. C. Pugh's grave in the Old Caddo Cemetery is considered to be the link to the Pugh families existence in the Joshua, Johnson County, Texas area.
