      ; per Mardi Car: "I think I have solved the mystery here. In Nichols' Leicestershire, under "East Goscote" (v 3 p 351) there is a chart pedigree of the
Burdet family. Robert Burdet, who m. Elizabeth Garshall, is the last named of his branch. His brother Sir Gerard Burdet (d. 1359/60) m. Eleanor Devaille (Veale in some sources) and they had a son Sir John Burdet (oc 1370/1, 1378/9), who m. Margaret, da and h of Thomas Fitton, of Gosworth, co Chester. This is repeated by Sir William Betham in his "Baronetage of England" and Thomas Wotton in his "English Baronetage."

Nichols gives Robert Burdet's line under "Huncote" (v 4 p 820), but no wife is named for Sir John (1397,1400), the father of Elizabeth, wife of Sir Humphrey Stafford. However, two generations, both Roberts, are inserted between Robert, husband of Elizabeth Garshall, and Sir John, father of Elizabeth. I believe these extra generations are errors.

Roskell gives only one wife for Sir John, and that is Katherine, da of Sir John Ardern of Aldford, Cheshire by his 3rd wife Ellen Wastneys. Note #1 says, "He has been distinguished from his cousin Sir John Burdet of Arrow (c. 1347-1380): CIPM, xii, 296. Roskell also says he was son of Robert B. and his wife Elizabeth Garshill.

Looks to me like it all fits now that we have two cousins both named Sir John Burdet."3

      ; PHILIP de CLANVOWE, of Michaelchurch-on-Arrow, Radnorshire, Wales. Living 1349. First recorded on 27 Mar 1322, when the keeper of the castles of Huntington and La Hay (Hay-on-Wye) in Herefordshire, near the border of Wales, is ordered to restore his lands and properties there. Deputy Justiciar of South Wales to Sir Gilbert Talbot, 1332, 1334-47, and 1346-49. Knight of the Shire for Hereford, 1322, 1339, and 1340. (AR7: 84; BLG18, 1: 580; CCR, 1318-23: 430, 433; FP: 52, 94;

Married- PHILIPPA TALBOT or .......... BREDWARDEN. (AR7: 84, indicates the wife of Philip was Philippa, perhaps a daughter of Sir Gilbert Talbot, 1st Baron Talbot, and WG: 801, that she was a daughter of Sir Walter Bredwarden. Sir Philip may have been married twice, in which case it would not be possible to say with certainty who the mother of his daughter Elizabeth was.)1

The text does not specify which "Balduini comitis Montensis" is intended. However, if Thierry's date of death is correct as shown above, it is likely that the marriage took place only shortly before this date. If that is correct, then the text most probably refers to Count Baudouin III, who succeeded his father in 1098. According to Europäische Stammtafeln[750], Thierry's wife was Richildis, daughter of Baudouin III Comte de Hainaut, who later married Everard [II] Raoul Châtelain de Tournai. However, this is chronologically impossible (assuming that Thierry did die before 1106) as Baudouin III's marriage is dated to [1107]."
