David Riggs Jr. died at Wayne Co., New York, USA.1 He was born circa 1749 at Basking Ridge, Somerset Co., New Jersey, USA.1 He married Sallie Cox in 1777 at Basking Ridge, Somerset Co., New Jersey, USA.1
; from Wallace [1901:24]: "David Riggs6 (sone of David,5 Edward,4 Edward,3 Edward,2 Edward1) was born near Basking Ridge, N. J., about 1749, and probably grew to manhood there, as he married Sallie cox, a near rleative of his mother's, in 1777. They lived in Monmouth County for some years, and there is a tradition that their eldest sson was born the day of the battle and not far from the battlefield of Monmouth. About the close of the century the family removed to what became Wayne County, N. Y. for the details of the family we have nothing but the dim recollections of the descendants.

; from Wallace [1901:24]: "Joseph Riggs6 (son of David,5 Edward,4 Edward,3 Edward,2 Edward1) was born at Basking Ridge, N. J., April 24, 1740. He was a farmer, and bought from his father, David, the farm upon which he lived and died. He spent one summer clearing up a piece of land raised a crop on it, before he was married. The next year he maried Leah Cosad, daughter of Jacob Cosad, then of Sussex Co., N. J. She was of the true Dutch stock, born July 8, 1743, an ddied February 27, 1827. He was energetic and successful, and was a leading man in his vicinity. He was not a member of the church, but for mnay years was a frequent attendant, with his family, at the Presbyterian Church at Cranbury, where he was laid by the side of his wife Leah, February 26, 1829. He is generally classified as the head of the Hightstown branch of the family. His children were as follows:

In 1839 Joseph was a Justice of the Peace in Franklin County. He operated a store at Main and Oak streets and owned a residence at Second and Lafayette streets, both locations in the town of Washington. According to Ralph Gregory's History of Washington, Missouri, Joseph also at some point operated a ferry from the town of Washington across the Missouri River. Following official incorporation of the town of Washington on 15 Feb 1841, Joseph Harden was appointed Constable, Tax Collector, Assessor and Treasurer.
Joseph Harden died at 41 years of age and is buried in Lot 198 at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Washington, Franklin Co., MO.

In 1839 Joseph was a Justice of the Peace in Franklin County. He operated a store at Main and Oak streets and owned a residence at Second and Lafayette streets, both locations in the town of Washington. According to Ralph Gregory's History of Washington, Missouri, Joseph also at some point operated a ferry from the town of Washington across the Missouri River. Following official incorporation of the town of Washington on 15 Feb 1841, Joseph Harden was appointed Constable, Tax Collector, Assessor and Treasurer.
Joseph Harden died at 41 years of age and is buried in Lot 198 at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Washington, Franklin Co., MO.

Gregory [2000:7]: "Before 1841 Before 1841, licenses for the ferry at Washington were issued by the county. Andrew Cochran and Joseph R. Hardin were two of the first officials of the city, both had general stores, and Hardin taught school."
