David Sharpless married Sarah Moore, daughter of Amos Moore and Elizabeth Smith, on 17 December 1774 at German Reformed Church, Philadelphia, Philadelphia Co., Pennsylvania, USA,
; her 1st husband.¹
David Sharpless died circa 11 September 1777; per Anderson [1966:I:49]: "David Sharples servbed in the Revolutionary War and his service record may be found in the National Archives, Wasthington, D. C. He appears as a private in Captain Taylor's Company of the 5th Pennsylvania Regiment of food commanded by Col. Francis Johnston from January through September 1777. the August muster roll has the notation "During the War" when his term of enlistment is mentioned. In the muster roll for September 1777 under date of Oct. 10, 1777 he is marked "Missing Sept. 11." This would indicate that he probably lost his live on the day of the Battle of Brandywine."¹
