A very important piece of history about this family is found in the Will of Moses Ball, Jr. which is not found on the internet so I typed it verbatim from the below named source: WILL OF MOSES BALL, JR.
"In the name of God, Amen, I Moses Ball of the county of Hawkins, State of Tennessee, being weak in body but being in perfect mind and memory thanks be given to God, calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this instrument of writing to be my last Will and Testament, that is to say:
First of all I give and recommend my soul in the Almighty god that gave it and my body I reccoment to the earth, to be buried at the discretion of my Executor hereinafter appointed nothing doubted but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God. And as touching such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life.
First of all I give and bequeath to my son, Spencer Ball one dollar out of my estate and no more.
Secondly, I give and bequeath to my son, Spencer Ball one dollar and no more out of my estate.
Thirdly, I give and devise to my son Bennett Ball a certain parcel of land lying and being between my sons William Ball and Thomas Bal and from the Southern boundry of my land and running Northward to where the Beech Creek road runs thought my land and no further.
And I it is my further Will and desire that if my wife Molly [Mary] shall have the rent of the said land that I have divised to my son, Bennett Ball during her natural life for her support.
Fourthly, I give and devise to my grandson, Jonathan Ball, a certain described parcel of land being on the North side of the Beech Creek road and being between the said William Ball and the said Thomas Ball land and including my apple orchard and running to the Northern Boundry of my land. And it is further my Will and Desire that my Executors after my decease shall rent said parcel of land and orchard and the money or property arising from said rent to pay for the education of my Grandson, Jonathan Ball. And it is my further will and desire that my said Grandson, Jonathan Ball, shall have a horse, saddle and bridle out of my estate.
Fifthly, I give and bequeath to my well beloved wife, Molly Ball all the residue of my personal estate and money that is owing to me during her natural life.
Sixthly, it is my further will and desire after my wife's decease the property, if any, is to be sold, except my wearing clothes and the plank that is in my loft and my books, the planks to remain where they are, my wearing clothes and my books to be divided as equally betwen my children as they can. And the money arising from the said sale to be equally divided between my daughter, Hester McDaniel, Nancy Warren, Polly Ball, Sibily Long and Sarah Long's children and my grandson, Jonathan Ball or their heirs. There was thirty-two dollars that I paid for William McDaniel in part pay for McDaniel's wagon, sixteen dollars of said William McDaniel was to pay John K. Long who married with my daughter Sibley. If John K. Long has recovered that, that and they are to settle with my Executor.
I constitute and appoint my son, Wesley Ball and Thomas Ball my Executors of this my last Will and Testament to manage my estate, Real and personal as they think best. I hereby utterly revoke and disannul all and every other former Testaments, Wills and Legacies before mentioned Willed, bequeathed, ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament.      ; The TUNNELL and other associated families in America are descendants of French Huguenots who fled France to avoid the persecution of Protestants in that country. The earliest known members of the TUNNELL family were named TONNELIER. Another person's ancestry record on the internet shows that Guillaume TONNELIER, a Frenchman, left France about 1700 and settled in Yorkshire England. His wife (name unknown), and infant son William went with him to England. Little William had at least two brothers, who also coame to America--John TONNELIER and James TONNELIER. William, John & James TONNELIER all grew to maturity in England. William married Lady Ann HOWARD. John married Lady Scarbrough, a widow. The Tonnelier brothers and their wives left England for America about 1735-1740. This person was unable to discover how they came to America. They settled in the state of Virginia where they began to raise families. In America the surname TONNELIER became TUNNEL and TUNNELL. Many decendants of these brothers live in the U.S. today.1

His parents were Virginians, his father born in Russell county in 1781, and his mother born in 1791. Robert Ball died on Twelve Pole creek, Wayne county, November 28, 1832, and his widow long survived him, dying June 2, 1872. William T., left fatherless at an early age, had few opportunities of availing himself of the limited educational privileges of his youth. He grew to manhood in Wayne county, caring for his mother and sisters, and, in this county on the 28th of November 1848 married Elizabeth, daughter of Jordan and Mary (Cartier) Clay. Her father was born in Virginia, her mother in Canada, and they passed the early years of their marriage in Kentucky where Elizabeth was born in 1817. Her parents came to Wayne county in 1855 and died here in the following year.
The children of Mr. and Mrs. Ball are four: Mary Jane, born November 17, 1852, married William F. Walker January 18, 1869, and lives on Trace Fork, Wayne county; Lafayette F., born January 24, 1854, married December 24, 1874, and lives on Twelve Pole; Melissa B., born January 27, 1857, and Sarah Alice, born November 11, 1860. William T. Ball was commissioner of revenue in Wayne county, 1856-8, and justice of the peace, 1866-7. He was a minister of the Gospel, a faithful and efficient worker in the service of the Master for all these years and is respected by all who know him, of whatever denomination. He is pastor of the Greenbrier and Cassville Baptist churches in Wayne county, and of the Bloomingdale Baptist Church of Cabell county. He has travelled four years as missionary in West Virginia and lived in Echo, Wayne county.
