"My last will and request is that my executors, Rawley, Benjamin, and George Humphreys, who I doubt not will manage with prudence as to my worldly estate, I will and positively order, that all my debts be paid first. I give to my dear wife for the term of her life, this house where I now live in with all the furniture and the lands and tenements that lie about it, likewise all my Negroes whilst she lives single. if married, or at her death, my wish is that my son Rawley should have Bristow when paying one hundred dollars back to my estate. My son, Benjamin, I wish for to have Bill. My son, George, I wish for to have Lewis `. My daughter Betsy, ten pounds in money. My son Bijes, youngest daughter, called Catherine, I wish her to have Charlots youngest chid, called Ephraim. I wish my daughter Sally to have Clara and My daughter Mimey, I wish her to have Mary Charlots increase, if she has any. I wish my daughters, Sally, Susannah and Mimey for to have it at my wife death. I wish this place that I live on now with all its utensils and household furniture to be sold and equally divided between my four youngest children, George, Sally, Susannah and Mimey. My land on Rock Creek, seven hundred and seventy seven acres, now in dispute, as soon as the dispute is ended, if gained, I wish it be sold and money for to pay my debts, My son, Jackies two little sons, Jesse and Bessey Humphrey, I wish them for to have five pounds a pease. George was one of the 4 youngest of 9 children of John Humphrey, a Revolutionary War soldier who, on November 4, 1795, was issued a tract of 1,078 acres of land by Treasury Warrant #11602 which was located in Hardin County, Kentucky on Rock Creek, a branch of the Nolin River. John Humphrey's death occurred in late 1814 or in the first 2 months of 1815. On October 18, 1813 he wrote his will, recorded in Hardin County, Kentucky, Will Book B on February 13, 1815. John Humphrey's widow, Elizabeth, is thought to be his 2nd wife and not the mother of George Humphrey.

Barbara Jenkins was the daughter of John Jenkins and Sarah Quick Shacklett.
Barbara Jenkins was married to George Humphrey in Hardin County, Kentucky on October 14, 1812. They lived in the part of Hardin County that became Meade County, Kentucky in 1824.
On May 22, 1834, George Humphrey died at the age of 44 and was buried in Meadville Cemetery. Barbara next married Isaac Hughes, but they were married only a short time and she returned to using the Humphrey name.
In 1850, the census shows Barbara Humphrey, age 56, born in Pennsylvania, living in the household of Armstead Barnes and wife Elizabeth (Dowell) in Meade County, Kentucky. Barbara's mother was a sister to Elizabeth Dowell's grandfather Benjamin W. Shacklett.
About 1859, Barbara moved to Island, Kentucky where her daughter Minerva Shacklett was living.
