     Suggested edit: Granddad Shacklett was a miner in the coal mine. He was told by the Lord never to go into the mine again. One day a man came to Granddad and told him that he was sick and unable to go to work that day, but desperately needed the money to feed his family. He asked if Granddad would work in his place so he would not lose a day's wages. Ignoring the warning he had received from the Lord, Granddad agreed to work in the mans place, thinking that if he were not going for himself, but to help someone else out, that the Lord would understand. Instead, there was a cave in and a huge sheet of rock fell on Granddad, injuring his back and paralyzing him for life.
     I remember the day that Granddad Shacklett came to stay with us. Since his accident the children took turns having him at their house for a period of time before passing him on to the next one. It was now Daddy's turn to take him for awhile.
     With tears in his eyes, Granddad asked Mother, "Georgia, would it be alright with you if I just stayed here? I am so tired of being shuffled around from place to place and I always feel as if I am in the way." Mother agreed, and Granddad lived with us until the day he died. He died at our home in Jasonville, Greene County, Indiana.
     I remember one day when there was a huge plague of locust coming up from the south, devouring everything in it's path. Mother was so upset because the garden was just coming on and she depended on that to feed us all through the winter.
     "Whatever will I do? I just CAN'T lose that garden." Granddad Shacklett said calmly "Don't worry Georgia. I've prayed and it will be alright." At the first crack of light the next morning Mother jumped out of bed and ran outside. For as far as the eye could see, everything was stripped bare. Trees, bushes, lawns, pastures, and gardens. EXCEPT FOR OURS!! There it was, just as pristine as you please. Not a leaf touched anywhere. "See Georgia? I told you it would be alright. Just have a little faith."
     Another time I was helping Mother get supper when I overheard Granddad say to her "Georgia, don't fix me anything for supper. I have prayed and asked the Lord to send someone with something that will be easier on my stomach. They will be here by five p.m." Sure enough, at exactly 5 o'clock there was a knock on the door. Mother opened it to find a lady from up the street standing there, holding a tray covered with a towel.
     "I'm sorry to intrude Mrs. Shacklett, but this afternoon I got the strangest urge to fix something for Mr. Shacklett to eat. I just couldn't shake it, no matter how I tried. I do hope I'm not intruding." Mother took the tray, thanked the lady for it and took it in to Granddad. It was exactly what he had asked for.
     Granddad was a huge man of faith. He prayed for his family every day. He prayed for his kids, his grandchildren, his great grandchildren, and even his great-great-grandchildren who were not even born yet. He set a wonderful example for all of us and I believe that is where I got my faith from. As a baby Mother would put me in bed with Granddad to watch while she worked. He held me, read the Bible to me, prayed for me and worshipped with me. I think his anointing fell to me. At the very least, I saw with my own eyes the example of what faith can do and I have never forgotten it.
     Granddad Shacklett was a wonderful man and we were very blessed to have him in our home. I miss him so much and look forward to the day when we will all be together again.
