     At 89, Sarah Mae Golladay played "Amazing Grace" in her brother's downriver church with such a flourish that "she had hands and arms going at all ends of the piano," said her granddaughter Sandra McClure. That was just a warm-up. Once home in West Bloomfield, Mrs. Golladay "ripped up the old piano on Scott Joplin rags," McClure said.
     Mrs. Golladay, whom McClure described as a shy, introverted woman whose heroes included Lee Iaccoca and Bette Davis, died Friday at Huron Valley Hospital, Commerce. But Mrs. Golladay's quiet ways belied her adventuresome spirit. "When the wheels turned, she really wanted to go. She has been everyplace in the West. She always wanted to go to one more place," McClure said. And she had grit. A few years ago, while shopping in a Detroit fruit market, Mrs. Golladay was mugged. The thief got her purse but not without a struggle. When it was over, Mrs. Golladay still had the handle. "She was just the toughest thing going, in her quiet way," McClure said.
     In recent months, Mrs. Golladay had been hospitalized for heart problems, and in April had to have hip surgery. But she never forgot relatives' birthdays. Greeting cards were bought and signed months in advance, and were dutifully mailed by family members.
Besides her brother, the Rev. Ellwyn Leach, and McClure, Mrs. Golladay is survived by two daughters, Gert Grisham and Betty June Davis; 11 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
     Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Godhardt- Tomlinson Funeral Home, 2904 Orchard Lake Road, Keego Harbor. Friends may visit from 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Grand Lawn Cemetery, Detroit.

     Maymie Josephine Austin Kelly was born in Roanoke, Virginia; was the daughter of Harry Olen Austin and Georgia Belle Atwell Austin; the wife of Jack Speer Kelly; and the mother of Doris June Kelly Hedrick and Richard Iven Kelly (died at birth). She and Jack met while working at the American Viscose Corporation. They were married in 1932. She pretty much worked outside the home most of her life which not only included industry but retail positions at Pugh's and J.C. Penney's where she retired. She was a member of Belmont Presbyterian Church and worked there during Bible School and was active in the Women of the Church. She was known most for caring for others--both family and friends. Family was important to her. She loved her daughter, June, and was a faithful wife to her husband, Jack. Her grandchildren--Donna June Hedrick Aderholt Hartmann, Jeffrey Allen Hedrick, and Catherine Kelly Hedrick Work--were the "apple of her eye". She loved giving them surprises, going to special events, cooking their favorite foods and accompanying them on family vacations. She would be overjoyed today if she could have seen her great grandchildren: Michael Scott Aderholt, Katie and Krista Hartmann, Ashley and Ryan Hedrick, and Sarah and Samantha Work, plus a great grandchild, Megan Terry Aderholt. Maymie enjoyed life, living it to the fullest, even though it was sometimes difficult. Her struggle with Muscular Dystrophy did not affect her spirit. She had a determination that would not quit. Till the end she was continuing to "take care of the world"--a special lady to all who knew her.

     Jack Speer Kelly was the son of Daniel Ayers and Sarah Alice Speer Kelly. Born in Roanoke on January 11, 1911. At 16 years old, he went to work for the American Viscose Corporation (a producer or rayon) and was employed there for 31 years working his way up to a First Class Electrician. He also was a president and active member of the Textile Workers Union. When the company closed in 1958, he moved to Washington D.C. and began work at the Marine Barracks and stayed there until his retirement. He then moved back to Roanoke. He was one who was always at work early , loved his job, and considered it an honor to be employed by his company. He was skilled at many things and seemed to always be able to solve the problem whether it be the need for a plumber, carpenter, etc. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy on the LST-703. His landing craft was LCT-696. He took part in the Leyte landings, Nov. 1944; Manila Bay-Bicol Operations, Jan., 1945; and Borneo operations in June and July, 1945. While in the Philipppines he became an honorary member of the Boy Scouts, an extension from back home where he was a member and Scoutmaster at his church, Belmont Presbyterian. He also belonged to the Arlington-Fairfax Elks Lodge #2188, Arlington Lodge #1315, the Loyal Order of the Moose #5710, and the American Legion Post #139. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maymie Austin Kelly, and a son, Richard Iven Kelly. At the time of his death he was survived by his daughter and son-in-law, June K. and Donald Hedrick; his grandchildren, Catherine Kelly Work and husband, David; Jeff and his wife, Kim Hedrick; all of Madison Heights; and Donna and Howard Aderholt of Richmond; his great-grandchildren Michael Aderholt and Ashley Hedrick. He missed seeing those to come later: Katie and Krista Hartmann, Ryan Hedrick, Sarah and Samantha Work; his great grandchild Megan Terry Aderholt. Graveside services were held at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens and a memorial service was held afterwards at Belmont Presbyterian church. Memorials in his honor were made to Belmont Presbyterian Church Funeral arrangements were handled by Lotz Funeral Home.
