MRS. ALONZO DODDS DIED THIS MORNING
Prominent Noble Township Woman Victim of Heart Disease
Mrs. Katherine Dodds [Catharine Mount on stone], 57 years old, wife of Alonzo Dodds, died at 4 o'clock this morning [June 3] at their home in Noble township about four miles south of Waldron. Complications brought on by heart disease from which she had been suffering for five years caused her death. Her condition had been critical for three months because of leakage of the heart and she had realized for some time that she was fatally stricken and had made all preparations for the final call and had bidden her loved ones farewell and told them she was ready to go.
Mrs. Dodds was a daughter of John and Katherine Weidner and was born July 4, 1858 in Noble township on a farm adjoining the one on which her death occurred and all her life had been spent as a resident of that community. She had married twice, her first husband being Amos Mount, to whom she was wed forty years ago. He died in 1892 [should be 1893]. Four children were born to this union. Two survive. They are Mrs. Walter (Florence) Bailey and Mrs. Ezra (Cecil) Goodwin, both of Noble township. She also leaves six grandchildren; a brother, Leander Weidner of Arcola, Ill; and a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Gross of Noble township. Her marriage to Mr. Dodds, who survives her, was solemnized January 28, 1897. No children were born of this union.
For many years the deceased held membership in the Bethel Baptist Church and was faithful to the cause. She was held in high esteem by her neighbors and all who knew her will regret her untimely death.
Funeral services will be held at the Valley Church at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon [June 5], the Rev. Joseph McQueen officiating, and the burial will be made in Ogden cemetery, in charge of Stewart & Fix. The cortege will leave the house at 1 o'clock. Obituary courtesy of Linda Meyer.
