Three miles north is site of first church in area, erected ca.1792 under Joseph Ferguson's leadership. He led Methodist movement after settling in Nelson Co. Church wasnucleus around which Salt River circuit was formed. Original log structure replaced by brick 1816 and by larger building 1844. Old site abandoned 1908 and church at Woodlawn built 3/4 mi. beyond.
