The Atlanta Journal, Monday August 24, 1953 - Mrs. Jessie Davis
     Funeral services for Mrs. Jessie Davis (W. C.) Davis, 82, will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the J. Austin Dillon Chapel. Dr. W. Lee Cutts will officiate. Burial will be in Westview cemetery.
     Mrs. Davis who lived at 48 Weyman Ave. S. W. died Sunday morning in a private hospital after an illness of two months.
     A native of Smyrna, she was a member of the Capitol View Baptist Church and the Dorch Bible class.
     Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. W. H. Little, Decatur; a sister, Mrs. Ben T. Jerome, Atlanta; and a grandson, W. H. Little, Jr., Atlanta.

     After suffering a paralytic stroke at the funeral of his sister-in-law, Mrs. C.A. McComb last week, Landon Calhoun Smith died at his home on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 1932. He was born in Grange (Grainger) County, TN Dec. 23, 1860 to Samuel and Lucy Marshall Smith. He came to Phelps County with his parents in 1867 and in 1890 he started a general mercantile business with his brother, Sterling M. Smith. By 1910 the brothers dissolved the business and Landon opened L.C. Smith and Son Hardware Store. About 1924, Landon suffered a stroke which curtailed his activity in the business and his son, V.X. Smith took over the operation of the store. Mr. Smith married Miss Mary Wilson of Rolla in 1885, who survives, and they had six children who also survive. They are, Mrs. A.B. Knapp of Oklahoma, William S Smith of Idaho, Mrs. H.D. McKibben and V.X. Smith of Rolla, Charles L Smith of Illinois, and Mrs. L.R. Scheurer of Texas. He is also survived by thirteen grand children and a number of other relative who will mourn his passing.......Pallbearers were his nephews: Jas. S. Smith, Bland Smith, Frank Smith, Allen Smith, Wes Smith, and Wallace Smith.
