Anne Eure1
F, #17078
Father | Robert "Younger" Eure of Bradley2,3 |
Mother | Ellen Ingleby4 |
Last Edited | 27 Aug 2019 |
Anne Eure married Ralph Constable of Burton Constable, Yorkshire.1,3
; per Watson: "We know that the three daughters and heirs of Robert Eure of Bradley,
Durham (d. bef. 1480) married respectively;
Anne Eure - married Ralph Constable of Halsham, her step-brother
Isabel Eure - married William Constable of Halsham, her step-brother
Ellen Eure - married Henry Thwaites of Lund
In 1480-83 Ralph Constable and Anne, his wife; William Constable and
Isabel, his wife; and Henry Thwaytes and Ellen, his wife, daughters of
Robert, son of Elizabeth Ivers, sued Ralph Ivers concerning detention
of deeds relating to the manor of Bredon, Leicestershire [Court of Chancery: Six Clerks Office: Early Proceedings, Richard II to Philip and Mary, C 1/61/13]
However, both William Constable and Henry Thwaites of Lund died before
1500, and their widows re-married:
Isabel Eure married secondly Peter Bigod: In the 7th year of the
pontificate of Richard Fox, Bishop of Durham [1501] Peter Bygott and
Isabella his wife, one of the three heiresses of Robert Eure, late of
Bradly, esquire, and one of the three daughters and heiresses of
Robert Eure junior, son of the first named Robert, had licence to
enter without Inquisition, etc, upon a third part of the lands, etc.
lately held by the said Robert senior and Robert junior, and had
pardon for all intrusions upon the same [36th Annual Report of the Deputy Keeper of the Public Records (London: 1875) p 28]
This Peter Bigod, (of North Grimston) was a younger son of Sir Ralph
Bigod of Settrington (d. Towton, 1461). The inquisition post mortem
for Durham of Peter Bygod was taken at Durham on 3 October 1530, where
it was found that he held in right of his wife, among other lands, one
third part of the manors of Bradlee next Wolsyngham and Kynblesworth.
[44th Annual Report of the Deputy Keeper of the Public Records (London: 1883) p 333]
Unfortunately his heir is not given, but Isabel Eure, was the mother
of Peter's son Ralph, since Robert Bigod, (d. 1558) son of this Ralph
Bigod was later involved in a Chancery pleading concerning lands in
Breedon, Leicestershire, which were part of the inheritance of Isabel
Eure, from her grandmother Elizabeth Mallory [Court of Chancery: Six Clerks Office: Early Proceedings, Richard II to Philip and Mary, C 1/486/22]. As a further confirmation of the relationship, Peter Bigod
is refered to as "myne uncle Peers Bigott" in the will of Sir Henry
Thwaites of Lund, dated 30 June 1520, (son of Henry Thwaites and Ellen
Eure)[Surtees Society, Vol 79, Testamenta Eboracensia, Vol V (Durham: 1884) p 116].
Ellen Eure married secondly Richard Errington: In the 7th year of the
pontificate of Richard Fox, Bishop of Durham [1501] Richard Eryngton
and Elena his wife, one of the three heiresses of Robert Eure, late of
Bradly, esquire, and one of the three daughters and heiresses of
Robert Eure junior, son of the first named Robert, had licence to
enter upon the lands, etc. of her inheritance without the usual
formalities, &c. [36th Annual Report of the Deputy Keeper of the Public Records (London: 1875) pp 30-1].
Also, 1501-1504: Richard Eryngton and Elene, his wife, late the wife
of Henry, son of Edmond Thwates, deceased. v. John Seyntquyntyn,
Edmond Thwates, and John Noble, priest, executors of Edmond Thwates.:
Refusal to pay a bequest to Lore, daughter of Henry Thwates and Elene,
his wife, on her marriage with the son of William Blaxton, of Blaxton,
Yorkshire [Court of Chancery: Six Clerks Office: Early Proceedings, Richard II to Philip and Mary, C 1/254/11]
That's where I'm stuck at the moment - who was this Richard Errington?
Was he the one of Cockle Park, Northumberland?"5
