She was the mother of eight children, five of whom survive her. Those are George S. and John, of Half Moon; Rev. S. S., of Warriorsmark; and M. G. and I. V., of Philipsburg. Her daughter Mrs. Eliza J. Wilson, died less than two years ago, one won, William died in 1867, and one child died in infancy. She had thirty grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. Robert A. Wilson, of Tyrone, is the eldest grandchild, and his son, Harry, is the eldest great-grandchild..
The deceased was a devout Christian, a member of the Methodist church. Her life was an exemplary one and she leave behind to the numerous posterity that had grown up to manhood and womanhood about her, an inheritance vastly more honorable than riches, the memory of a Christian character, a noble life and a triumphant death.1,4

Mrs. Katherine Mattern Gray, widow of Isaac Gray, and known far and wide throughtout this section as "Aunt Katy," died at her home in Stormstown Monday of old age. She had reached the advanced age of 98 years and 2 months. The funeral took place at 10 o'clock yesterday morning from her late residence, and interment followed in Gray's churchyard, Half Moon..
Mrs. Gray was the daughter of George Mattern, one of the three brothers, George, David and Jacob, who were founders of the Mattern family which is now so thickly scattered over the counties of Centre, Huntingdon and Blair. She was the last surviving member of her generation in the branch of the family founded by George Mattern, and was the oldest member of the Mattern family in all the branches. "Aunt Katy" was present last summer at the Mattern reunion at Warrriorsmark [sic] and was the oldest persion in that vast assemblage..
