Born in Campbell County, Virginia, he was the son of John Stevens (1760 - 1817, allegedly a Revolutionary War soldier) and Susannah Speece (@1763 - 1795). In 1811 he married Anna Barbara Susong. Conrad and Ann were the parents of eleven known children: John Windsor, Elizabeth Ann (1825), James Alexander Clark (1825), Jake (1827), Sam (1829), Oliver Hazard Perry (1831), Margaret (1833), Mary Ann (1835), Sallie (1837), Thomas (1839), Martha Ann (1841). (Of these, two are known to have been Confederate soldiers: James A. C. served in Co. A, 9th Mississippi Infantry and Oliver H. P. served as first lieutenant in Co. C, 42nd Mississippi Infantry, where he was severely wounded at Gettysburg on July 1, 1863 and again in The Wilderness on May 5, 1864.) Conrad Stevens and family are listed in the 1820 Washington Co., VA Census (p. 232), the 1830 Humphreys Co., TN Census (p. 302) and the 1840 Marshall Co., MS Census (p. 49) where he has 11 slaves.
