     Col. William Legge was born in 1608.2 He married Elizabeth Washington, daughter of Sir William Washington of Leckhampstead, Bucks., and Lady Anne Villiers, on 2 March 1642.1,3,2

Col. William Legge died on 13 October 1670.2
      ;
From Genealogics:
William Legge was born in 1608 in Ireland, the son of Edward Legge and Mary Walsh. He was brought out of Ireland by his godfather, Henry Danvers, Earl of Danby, and sent by him to serve as a volunteer under King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden, then afterwards fought under Prince Maurits of Orange in The Netherlands. On his return to England, he was first constituted keeper of the king's wardrobe during life and, soon after, made groom of the bedchamber.

William Legge married Elizaeth Washington, daughter of Sir William Washington, of Packington, and Anne Villiers.

During the civil wars, William Legge became eminently distinguished by his faithful attachment to King Charles I and his persevering exertions in the royal cause, both before and after the murder of the king.

Wounded and taken prisoner at the battle of Worcester, he would have been executed had his wife not contrived his escape from Coventry gaol in her own clothes. High in favour after the Restoration, he enjoyed several lucrative and honourable offices.

William Legge died on 13 October 1670. His widow died in 1688.2
