Tibbot Russel died on 11 August 1340 at Isle of Wight, England; k at the beginning of the Hundred Years' War, leading English forces in the Isle of Wight against a French landing party at St Helen's.¹

      ; SIR TIBBOT GORGES, alias RUSSELL, of Wraxall, Braunton Gorges, Sturminster Marshall, fought at Crecy 1346, present with his elder bro Sir Ralph Russell at the siege of Calais 1347, he assumed the name and arms of GORGES and bore arms, gold and blue lozengy. At the siege of Calais he had a dispute with a certain John de Warbelton who also bore gold and blue lozengy, and who challenged Tibbot Gorges' right to these arms. The case was decided by the Court of Honours (award, Bodleian Library, Ashmolean Mss. 1137, 144), the arms were adjudged to be John de Warbelton's by inheritance and Gorges added a chevron gules for difference. He sat in Parliament, was a Commr to collect subsidies for the war, was twice Sheriff of Somerset, and Dorset, and Sheriff of Southampton, and Constable of Winchester Castle, a Commr apptd by EDWARD III to determine the metes and bounds of the County of Bristol Sept 1373. He m Agnes (d 15 Nov 1400), dau of John de Wyke, of Court de Wyke, Yatton, Somerset, and d 22 Nov 1380, having had issue.¹ Sir Tibbot Gorges was also known as Sir Tibbot Russel.¹

     Agnes de Wyke married Sir Tibbot Gorges, son of Tibbot Russel and Alianore Gorges.¹

Agnes de Wyke died on 15 November 1400.¹

     John de Wyke of Court de Wyke, Yatton, Somerset lived at Court de Wyke, Yatton, co. Somerset, England.¹

Knighted before Orleans 1428, held various Yorkist cmds. in the Hundred Years' War, Lt for Duke of York at Rouen castle 1446, commr. of inquiry into value of Lancastrian lands c 1456, on the death of his cousin, Thomas, only s of Sir Morys Russel, he became heir-male of that family; b. ca. 1400; m 1st, Joan, dau of Richard Hankeford (by his wife Elizabeth, dau of 6th Baron Fitz-Warine, see BURKE'S Extinct Peerage), and grand-dau of Sir William Hankeford, Ch Justice of England, and co-founder of Exeter Coll (to whom his marriage was sold by the Crown for 300 marks on 14 July, 1421, when the manor of Braunton-Gorges was delivered to the Hankefords for the maintenance of Tibbot), and had issue. He m 2nd, Joan, dau and heir of John Flegge, of Harlesford, Bucks, and d 7 July, 1470, having by her had issue.¹
