Martha Patsy Collier was born on 16 January 1782 at Madison Co., Kentucky, USA.1 She married John Todd, son of Benjamin Todd Sr. and Sarah Lydia Griffin, on 14 October 1797 at Madison Co., Kentucky, USA.1,2
Martha Patsy Collier died on 18 May 1846 at Madison Co., Kentucky, USA, at age 64.1
Reference: Per McMurtry [2013]:
"John Todd was born in 25 March 1773 (per family bible) in Rowan County, NC. A North Carolina birth is confirmed by the 1880 census entry for John's son Joel who indicated that his father was born in NC. By 1821, John Todd had settled on Hayes Fork of Silver Creek, a few miles southwest of Muddy Creek where Benjamin Todd and his family had settled when they came to Madison Co. John has previously been identified by earlier historians as son of Caleb Todd b 1730/1740 presumably because Benjamin Toddb 1721/1731 was thought to have a son John b 1752. However, the John born 1752 probably died young because there are no references to him other than the birth date.
"Benjamin b 1721/1731 has a male over 16 living with him in 1790 as well as 2 males under 16. So there is space in Benjamin's family for this John b 1773. Also, Caleb Todd b1730/1740 only had 4 sons in 1790, presumed to be Caleb, Joshua, Benjamin and Joseph. Shortly after the Todds arrival in Madison County, John married Patsy Collier in the summer or early fall of 1797 (14 Aug 1797 in the Bible record, 7 Nov 1798 in the court bond). John appears on the tax lists of Madison Co beginning in 1797. He is taxed on 102 acres between 1804 and 1822, sometimes on Hays Fork and sometimes of Silver Creek, suggesting that he was on Hays Fork of Silver Creek during this entire period. In 1821, he bought another 32 acres (possibly 50 acres) on Hays Fork (Book F, page ?) and was taxed on 152 acres after that date. in 1832, he bought another 120 acres on Silver Creek. Since John was being taxed on land for which there is no record of his buying prior to 1821, it is possible that the was occupying and farming the land of William Todd who purchased 50 acres on Silver Creek in 1799 and then 100 acres on Silver Creek in 1811.
"In 1819, John's father-in-law, John Collier sold John Todd land on Muddy Creek. John died 15 April 1839 (per family bible). Darwin Newton reports that John was bondsman on the marriage of one of William Todd's daughters in 1817 (presumably Elizabeth Todd md 1817 John McCollum). Since William Todd's son John was only 18 years old in 1817, then the John Todd who appeared as bondsman on the marriage record must have been John Todd b 1773. This further supports the sense of a close association between John Todd b 1773 and William Todd b 1768 son of Benjamin and William's wife Elizabeth (dau of Caleb Todd b 1731), but is not useful in clarifying whether Benjamin or Caleb was his father.
"Darwin writes, "There is a marriage bond on file in Madison County, KY for John Todd and Patsy Collier. It was issued7-Nov-1798 with Walter Barclay as the bondsman and consent from John'Cholar' as father of the bride. There are estate records for John'Collier' that confirm his dau, Patsy, m. John Todd." Walter Barclay was connected to the Todds via Benjamin Todd's marriage to Margaret Barclay in Rowan Co. A Todd historian has noted: "There is also a note of an additional sale bill of 05-Apr-1841 that may well be a logical disposition of the dower aft Martha's death.". but Martha didn't die until 1846. John Todd d. on 15-Apr-1839 and Martha Todd d. 18-May-1846. On the three geographically ordered tax lists for Madison County in this era, John appeared on the list that had only himself, Benjamin Todd m to Alsey Nickerson, and briefly Reuben and William. This Benjamin, Reuben and William were all grandsons of Benjamin b 1721/1731. The male DNA test of a descendant of John showed that John was kin to the Rowan Co/Madison Co KY Todds. The Family Finder DNA test results were ambiguous though one of the samples showed a closer connection to three descendants of Benjamin Todd than to the second sample from the Caleb Todd lines." at Citation.2
