Death of Dr. W. S. Trimmer
Livonia lost a citizen and professional man of over four decades residence here in the death Sunday evening of Dr. Will S. Trimmer at his home on South Spring street. Climaxing poor health of more than a year. Dr. Trimmer was taken worse last Friday and failed rapidly. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at the residence at 2 o'clock, the officiating clergyman being the Rev. L A. Davin, pastor of the Livonia Methodist church. Bearers were Gustav Graf,Lee Richardson, Bert Fitch, Theo. Prottojohn, Byron Sherwood and Dr. Frank Smarzo. The remains were taken to the crematory in Rochester whero a committal service was held, and further services will be at Union comotory, Livonia, at the option of the family.
Dr. Trimmer was born in the town of Richmond on the 6th of June 1861, the son of Wm. H. and Emeline Gould Trimmer. His early education he received in Lima and after deciding on medicine as a career he went the University of Cincinnati, from which institution he received his medical degree in 1880. He began practicing Bloods (now Atlanta), remaining there one year, coming then to Livonia, where he remained until his death.
On the 28th of Otcobor of 1891 Dr. Trimmer wns married to Miss Hattie Knapp of Penn Yan, who survives him. He leaves also one daughter, Mrs. Frank Locke, of Livonia, and three grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Alice Ganung of Avon, and two nieces, Mrs. Fulton Darrow of Avon, and Miss Kathleen Westlake of Rochester.
During his earlier years, Dr. Trimmer was very active in civic and political affairs, having served as president of the school board, president of the board of health, supervisor and in other capacities. He was a singer of ability and was one of a male quartet which was prominent in this section during many of the exciting political campaigns of some years ago. Fraternally, Dr. Trimmer's keenest interest was in Free Masonry: An enthusiastic member of the Livonia Blue lodge, as well as a past master; one of the organizers in 1916, and the first high priest, of the local Royal Arch chapter, member of the Cyrene Commondery of Rochester and of the Shrine.
Dr. Trimmer's period of marked failing health dates, it seems, from the time of the fire of 1930, in the business section, when his office and all of its contents were destroyed. He saved only his day book and this loss of everything tangible which linked him to his long years of professional life, plus the break in association of location and folks, had a physical reaction on him which he found it impossible to overcome.
Dr. Trimmer assisted in the first and last rites of the members of scores of families in and around Livonia during his forty year practice here, and the death of this widely known man as a member of the medical profession will touch more homes directly, perhaps, than the passing of the representative of any other group, unless it be that of the clergy.

Mr. and Mrs. George Westlake's fifteenth wedding anniversary was celebrated at their residence last Monday night by about a hundred of their neighbors and friends. The whole affair was a complete surprise to Mr. Wesltake. The Rev. Mr. Burr made a short address and Miss Minerva Davis read a congratulatory paper. Many very nice presents of silver and cut glass were left as reminders to Mr. and Mrs. Westlake of this happy event.

Death of Mrs. Alice Ganung
Mrs. Alice E. Ganung, a Livonia resident for many years in her earlier life, died in the Eastern Star Home in Oriskany, N. Y., about 3 o'clock last Friday afternoon. Nov. 20, 1953.
Death came following a stroke two days earlier, at lunch time. She had been around as usual Wednesday morning, in excellent health and spirits, and was ready for lunch, but when the hour arrived she was missed from the group going to the dining room. Investigation revealed that she had suffered a stroke in her room.
But she went just as she had wanted to, quickly, quietly, serenely, without fuss or confusion, in possession of all her facilities. During a long lifetime she has passed through many deep waters. It was fitting that the end of the journey should come in peace.
Mrs. Ganung was one of four children (three girls and a boy) of the late William and Emeline Gould Trimmer, and was born in the town of Richmond on May 12, 1865. She attended Genesee Wesleyan Seminary at Lima and then taught school in South Lima. It was there that she met George Westlake, Erie station agent. They married in 1883, and started housekeeping in South Lima. Subsequently Mr. Westlake was transferred to Springwater, Avoca, and finally to Livonia. Six children, all girls, were born to them: Lera, Madge, Ethel, Kathleen, Ruth, and Edna. Of the six, only the oldest, now Mrs. Fulton Darrow of Conesus Lake, survives her mother. Mr. Westlake died in 1899. His wife was a widow at 34, with a large and young family.
In 1912 Mrs. Westlake married A. C. Ganung of Livonia, who died some 13 years later. For the next several years she lived with her daughter. Mrs. Darrow in Avon, the last 10 years had been spent at the Eastern Star Home in Oriskany.
Mrs. Ganung was a member of and active worker in the Livonia Baptist Church before its affiliation with the Congregational denomination and transferred her membership to the latter. She was also very active in Eastern Star circles and was past matron of Livonia Chapter, before the local Sons of Veterans Auxiliary dissolved, her active interest was manifested there also. Her helpfulness was extended in varied directions, her competence, composure and self-confidence, largely born of personal suffering, were as source of strength in many times of individual stress.
Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Reed & Reed Funeral Home, with burial in Union Cemetery. The Rev. Sterling Wetherell, Livonia Congregational Church pastor, officiated.
Surviving, besides Mrs. Darrow are two grandsons, George K. Darrow of Concord, Calif. and Reginald Darrow of Rochester, N. Y.

Mr. and Mrs. George Westlake's fifteenth wedding anniversary was celabrated at their residence last Monday night by about a hundred of their neighbors and friends.

DEATH OF MR. WESTLAKE.
I Geo. W. Westlake died last Sunday evening at his home in this village of typhoid fever, after a sickness of nearly two months. He had improved after the first illness, but this was followed by a relapse, and for the last two weeks his condition was considered critical in the extreme. There-fore the announcement of his death Sunday night did not come as a surprise to his family or the many friends who were so interested. He is survived by a wife and five children, his mother and two sisters. The funeral was held from the Baptist church Wednesday afternoon, the Rev. Mr. Nellis officiating. There was no school in the afternoon, and the stores were closed during the services. Mr. Westlake was a member of the hook and ladder company, which attended as an organization, together with the chemical company. The company of which he was a member contributed a piece representing a hook and ladder, and there were several other handsome floral offerings. Mr. Westlake was one of the most prominent business men of Livonia. He had been the Erie company's agent here for about eight years, and was a member of the firm of P. H. Neill & Co. He was an active, energetic man in any work he undertook, and every enterprise that was to benefit the village always had his earnest and unqualified support. He was a thorough business man, a good citizen, and a man wholly devoted to his family. His death is a loss to Livonia in many ways, and the sympathy of every one is extended to those in affliction.
Mr. Jaeger and Mr. Bowman, prominent officials of the Erie railroad, and Mr. Hyman. attended the funeral of George Westlake.
