     Mrs. Martha Casteel, aged 73 years, passed away Tuesday at the G.W. Hill home,
in the Bellview section, following an attack of pneumonia. She was a beloved
resident of that section.
     Funeral services were held at the home, Rev. Morgan officiating. Interment was
made at Bald Knob Cemeterty, Priest directing.
     The deceased is survived by one daughter and a host of relatives and friends. DECATUR DAILY - January 11, 1929

     Funeral rites for Mrs Ida Alice Casteel, 62, who died Tuesday afternoon at her home on Moulton highway, were held at 2 p.m. today at the residence. The Rev W W Aldredge officiated and Brown, of Decatur, was in charge of burial at Bald Knob cemetery in Lawrence county. The following were pallbearers: Daulty Morgan, Rich McCulloch, Jewel Roberts, Arthur Callahan, Charles Ferguson and D Montgomery.
     Surviving are the husband, Burel Casteel; three daughters, Mrs H N Pettey, Decatur; Mrs W T Means, Decatur route 3; Mrs Clyde Rogers, Moulton route 2; two sons, Freeman and E W Casteel, Decatur route 3; two sisters, Mrs Austin Rays and Mrs Emmie Turner; her step-mother, Mrs Clarkie Moles. Six brothers, Orley, William, Frank, Thomas, Walter and Howard Moles. The following step-children also survive; Mrs C B Ferguson, Mrs George Thrasher, Mrs Annie Binson, Decatur; Mrs G W Hill, Decatur route 3; Mrs Cleve Griffin, Athens and Herman Casteel, Nashville.      ; Bryan & Rose [1876:332-3]: "Ferguson.—Joshua Ferguson, of Fairfax county, Va., was a wagon master in the revolutionary war. After the close of the war he settled in Kentucky, where he married Mary Stone, by whom he had—John S., William, James, Polly, Sally, Nancy, Elizabeth, and Rachel. Mr, Ferguson came to Missouri and settled in Callaway county in 1817. His son, John S., married Mary Jones, of Kentucky, and settled in Callaway county the same year his father did. He had fifteen children, twelve of whom lived to be grown, viz. : Thomas J., Elizabeth, John R., William S., Joshua, J., Sarah, Marion, Louisa, Nancy, Emma, Jane, and Lucy. Joshua aqd Thomas built the first court house at Fulton, in 1826, for which they received $1,300. Such a house could not be built now for less than four or five thousand dollars. James Ferguson married Mary A. McGruder, of Kentucky, and settled in Callaway county in 1817. Rebecca married Dennis Askrens, who settled in Callaway county in 1817. Nancy married George Hirsch, who settled in Callaway county in 1823."2
