     Birth:      Apr. 9, 1831
     Death:      Jun. 1, 1914
!This information taken from "The History Of Kaufman County Texas" without proof:
"When Charles was 24 years old, his oldest brother, William G. Fox, died leaving behind a wife, child, and 320 acres of farm land. Eight months after his death, Charles assumed his duty to his brother's widow and child and married Esther M. Fox. They were wed on Nov. 21, 1855 at 12:00 noon in the presence of Nancy Spikes, Thomas W. Fox, and Samuel McCorkle. . . .
In July of 1861, Charles J. Fox enlisted as a Private in Captain John R. Johnson's Praireville Company, Kaufman County. This was not until March 10, 1862 that Charles J. Fox joined for duty to fight in the Civil War (sic). At the same time three of his brothers, Thomas Wade Fox, Joseph Henry Fox, and Benjamin Franklin Fox, enlisted. Their Captain was J.R. Johnson and was a part of the Bass' Regiment of Texas Mounted Volunteers 20th Texas Cavalry, Company C. A black man named Gabe Jones went through the war accompanying Charles Fox and taking care of his horse. The men fought in Indian Territory, Arkansas, and parts of Missouri. In Oct. of 1862 Charles was captured by the Yankees and then paroled on the 29th of that month. The brigade had become disorganized.
The men were sick and war-weary, especially those who had been opposed to secession. Major General Thomas C. Hindman's patience had run out for the 20th Texas. He ordered them to dismount and sent their ponies back to Texas. It was most likely the winter of that year that Charles Fox sent word to his wife in Kaufman County near Ola that he, his brothers, and the other men were in great need of food and supplies. Charles's wife Esther and Thomas' wife Betty Andrews loaded a wagon with supplies. Esther took her son Charles Rush and both women took a woman slave along on the journey.
The women made the rendezvous with their husbands at Boggy Depot in the Indian Territory (Oklahoma), roughly 125 miles north. Along the way they found shelter in the homes of women whose husbands were also fighting in the war. After the war, Charles returned to the "Dog Trot" style log cabin on the "Rocky Branch" creek near Ola. There he continued farming. His other children married and moved away, only Marion remained to work the land.
Every morning Charles would hitch up his horse named "Selum" to his phaeton and go to Ola for the mail. On the way up from Rocky Branch he would stop by his son Marion's place to pick up his granddaughter, Lucille Fox. Eventually Charles became too old to live by himself. His children met and decided that he would live with his daughter, Mollie Fox Erwin in Van Zandt County. Marion helped pay for the expenses.
Charles soon grew tired of that arrangement and returned to Ola with Marion and Beulah. The reason he gave for his return was that Beulah made better biscuits. . . . In 1908, his wife Esther, died and he later married a woman whose last name was Jackson. She later left him after a dispute. Charles J. Fox died on June 1, 1914. His body was taken by wagon to the Fox family cemetery where he was buried."

; N.B.: See attached diagram for my mother's (Lois Lorene PRATT - "LP") DNA matches with descendants with nine children of Barnard and Mary (CLEVELAND) FRANKLIN. My own line descends through Abner FRANKLIN. GA Vaut (son of Lois Lorene PRATT.)11

; From Simple Franklin Family Tree:
"Many reseachers have suspected that Stephen Franklin may somehow be connected to either Lawrence Franklin or Edward Franklin of Orange county, Virginia. Evidence has been lacking and recent Y-DNA tests seem to show that Stephen was not a direct male descendant of Lawrence or Edward. This does not mean he wasn't related though. A mysterious document in Stephen's pension file may demonstrate a connection. The document (photos of the orginial hand-written document) is attached in the Gallery for Stephen Franklin.
"One side of the document has the supporting testimony of Benjamin Robinson. It appears that after he wrote this, the paper was folded and the other side was addressed to Bernard Franklin.
The paper states:
Fayette County, Ky Sept 2nd 1832
"I do certify that I have known Stephen Franklin for at least forty years and I am witness that he served a tour of Duty at the Mouth of Kentucky River as a spy under Capt. Rhodes Thompson and Bartlett Collins.
Benjamin Robinson
I Stephen Franklin do testify that I spent one Month at Limestone officer [uncertain]

"From the above we see that Benjamin Robinson was living in Fayette County, Kentucky in 1832. Why would the paper be addressed to Bernard Franklin? Perhaps he was to deliver the paper to the court in Anderson, KY.
"A search of the 1830 US Census shows that a Bernard Franklin did live Fayette County, Kentucky in 1830. It appears that Bernard and his wife were living with a married child and their family. Who was this Bernard? He is Bernard Franklin Jr. the son of Bernard Franklin, son of Lawrence Franklin. He died a year later in 1833 in Fayette County, Kentucky. He was probably too old to take the paper to the court himself, but possibly the paper was given to a son to deliver — OR — it was not addressed to him specifically, but rather to his 33 year old son, Columbus Bernard Franklin, to take to the court.
"Why would Benjamin Robinson give the paper to Bernard Franklin, rather than someone else to deliver? My guess is that Bernard was probably somehow related to Stephen Franklin. I think his name on the note adds weight to the idea that Stephen is related to the Franklins of Orange County. A relative would have the most incentive to make sure the paper got to the court in Anderson County and helped Stephen.
"This doesn’t completely solved the mystery. While Bernard, the son of Lawrence, is the right age to be Stephen’s father, Stephen does not seem to be a direct male descendant of Lawrence or Bernard Franklin (as demonstrated by the Y-DNA test results of their descendants).
"The next statement may be controversial to some, but it is possible that Stephen’s mother was an unmarried sister of Bernard, son of Lawrence. In those days, children of unmarried women generally took the mother’s surname. If Bernard's unmarried sister had a child, the child would have been given the last name of Franklin, and the results of a Y-DNA test would fail to register this connection to Bernard or Lawrence."12

Fanny Franklin was born between 1797 and 1805 at Virginia/Georgia/South Carolina?, USA; Most online trees give her place of birth as VA, but the 1850 census says she was born in GA and the 1860 census says she was born in SC.1,2,3 She married Rhydon Grigsby Hill before 1834 at Alabama, USA,
; I assume that the children in the 1850 census were Fanny's and that they were probably married in Alabama where the children were born, before the oldes child was born (1834).4,3
; N.B.: I have started trying to determine if Abner and Rhoda (CLEVELAND) FRANKLIN had a daughter named Frances "Fanny". Ancestry says my mother has DNA matches with two descendants of the FRANKLIN line who may be descended from Abner through a daughter named Fanny (see attached image of chart). Both of these matches depend on Fanny having married a Mr. HILL and having a daughter named Rhydonia Allie HILL who m. a Taylor Morris COOK.
Several family trees show a Frances "Fanny" FRANKLIN as a dau. of Abener and Rhoda. Some trees have this Fanny m. a Rydon Grigsby HILL and having children. This is interesting in two ways (with allowances for reasonable spellings differences):
1. The name Rhydonia is quite possibly derived from a father named Rydon; and
2. Abner's son (and Fanny's posibble brother), David Yancy FRANKLIN, named a son Riden Griggsbyhill FRANKLIN. Rhydonia Allie HILL would have been a 1st cousin of Riden Griggsbyhill FRANKLIN.

According to the 1850 census, the Francis [sic] who m. R. G. HILL, was born in Georgia ca 1802. I have found speculative birth info for Fanny of 1797 in VA in many family trees, but no sources for this data. So this raises the question of whether Abner was in GA ca 1802 when Francis was born. We have little other information to go on. Some trees say Abner died in NC while others say AL (1828). His wife is said to have died in NC in 1820. His son, Jesse is said to have been born in TN (in 1810). Could Abner have had children in VA before 1797, then be in GA in 1802, TN in 1810 and then in NC by 1820?
The 1850 census listing for Francis and R. G. HILL was in Sabine Co., LA. Fanny FRANKLIN's brother David Yancy had moved to Alabama by the mid-1820's, while her brother Jesse, was in AL by 1830 and had moved to MS by 1838. The census further shows that all three of Francis and R. G.'s children were born in Alabama between ca 1834 and ca 1842. However, I haven't found an 1840 census listing for an R. G. Hill in Alabama so far.

(n.b., dates of birth aprox., based on listed ages)
In the 1860 census, Rhydonia Allie (HILL) COOK and her family are next door to an older Frances HILL (55) and a younger Franklin A. HILL (18). the are presumably the mother and brother of Rhydonia. This older Frances is shown as born in SC and Franklin in AL. This increases the likelyhood that Rhydonia Allie (HILL) COOK was the daughter of Frances HILL, and that the older Frances's maiden name may have been FRANKLIN as she gave her son that name (probably the "A. F. FRANKLIN" in the 1850 census). The prbability of a family connection between Rhydonia Allie (HILL) COOK and Franklin A. HILL (and thus to Frances HILL, his mother) is strengthened by the fact that Franklin A. is in Rhydonia's household in the 1870 census.
As for Frances "Fanny" FRANKLIN's date and place of birth, we have three possible dates and three possible places of birth (I have no great faith in the accuracy of either recorded birth dates or places in censuses):
1. Various unsourced Ancestry family trees: 1797 in VA
2. 1850 Census: ca 1802 (aged 48) in GA
3. 1860 Census: ca 1805 (aged 55) in SC

Two other pieces of evidence are that in the 1880 and 1900 censuses, Rhydonia reported that her mother was born in SC.
Conclusion: I have decided to place a Frances "Fanny" Franklin (who m. a Rydon Grigsby HILL) as a possible dau. of Abner and Rhoda for now, as I continue to evaluate the information I find on her. I have also assigned Rhydon Grigsby and Frances "Fanny" (FRANKLIN) HILL a daughter named Rhydonia (HILL) COOK. GA Vaut.5,2,3,6,7,8,9
