     Is there a family relationship between the PRATT and HOWELL families?
     Is Martha E. (Stewart) HOWELL the same Martha E. who was the daugter of Grief Stewart and Mary Polly Cahal? If the two Marthas are the same person, then she was the aunt of Alexis's wife, Mary Elizabeth McGinnis (who was the dau. of Martha's sister, Leurena/Lurena Ann Stewart McGinnis).
     It also seems that the year of birth (1822) and birth state (Virginia) for each Martha is the same based on available evidence.
     The HOWELL and PRATT families were all living close to each other in 1860 and 1870.
-- James & Martha HOWELL appear in the 1860 federal census for Warrenton, Twp Warren Co., MO and they are on the same page as Martha E. Stewart's brother, Peter P. Stewart.
-- In the 1860 census, Grief Steward and his family were living in Elkhorn Twp., just next to Warrenton/Elkhorn.

Based on this evidence, I have concluded that the two Martha E. Stewarts were the same person.^3,4,5,6 The birth and death dates of James Howell and his wife Martha E. Stewart appear in the Pratt family Bible, along with the family of Alexis Briscoe Pratt.²

; per Griffiths (1980) p. 18: "John Haden/Hadden of Younghers (Yonkers) Plantation is mentioned as early as Feb. 1668 when he witnessed a deed for Elias Doughty (Boston Transcript, 1 Aug. 1932)...On 6 May 1689 John and Elizabeth verbally bestowed upon sons Edward and Thomas part of their estate and, on Thomas, all of their real estate. A deed confirming the transfer of the real property to Thomas, in return for their own maintenance for the remainder of their lives, was executed 4 April 1692 and recorded on 9 April. Edward E. Hadden was a witness (Liber B, Deeds-107, Westchester Co., NY). John Hadden was apparently deceased before 1710. In Westchester records Edward Hadden is also mentioned in 1691 and Thomas Haden in 1703, 1704, 1725, and 1729.

The baptismal register of St. Peter's Church lists the following Haden baptisms on 4 Mar. 1702: John, aged 41 (thus born ca 1660), son John, aged 17; Abigail, 16; Samuel, 13; Elizth., 11; Thomas, 8; and Joseph, 1 yr., 7 mos. (Rev. Robt. Bolton, "History of the County of Westchester (NY, Vol. II, 1905, p. 399).⁸

Born [say 1638]; d. at Huntington, L. I., 31 July 1691; m. Elizabeth Wood, daughter of Jonas ''of Oram.'' He did not, as so often stated, m. (1) at Milford, 12 Mar. 1640, Phebe Smith. No marriages were entered in either town or church records there of so early a date; and the statement is obviously due to carelessness in confusing him with another Isaac Platt of Milford who did m. Phebe Smith, but on 12 Mar. 1740, just a century later.

In Capt. Isaac Platt's will dated 22 May 1691 at Huntington, Suffolk Co., New York, USA, Mary Jane Platt was named as an heir;
from Find a Grave:      Isaac's will was dated 22 May 1691, at Huntington. He left: To son, Jonas, the house between Samuel Woods & Jonathan Jarvis, and a f100 right of commonage purchased from the town and two parcels of meadowland on the southside. Also, a yoke of 3 year old steers and "if he abide with his mother & brethen until ye 29th Sept next and faithfully improve his time about their occasions then I do also give him ten bushels of wheat, twelve bushels of corn, a quarter of an ox called Darling that is now feeding, half an ox hide tanned and as much upper leather as will make two pair of shoes." To his wife he left a 1/3 part of all other lands & meadows as long as she remained a widow. If she remarried this interest would revert to the three youngest sons, John, Joseph and Jacob. Isaac 's wife also received 1/3 of all goods and chattels plus her own room in the homestead. To daughter, Elizabeth, f5 . The balance of lands and meadows he devised to his sons John, Jacob and Joseph to divide equally. The balance of goods and chattels went to his four sons and daughter, Mary, to be divided equally. If Jonas, the oldest son, should die without issue his share was to go to the surviving younger sons. If any of them died unmarried, distribution would be among the surviving brothers and sisters. The buildings were to remain solely with John, Joseph and Jacob, and Jonas and Mary were excluded from the homestead title (perhaps they had their own homes by that time). The executor was Isaac's son, John.
