Her early hearing aid (which really didn't help much) used two huge batteries, total in size of about four of today's 'D' batteries, which she wore on her thigh. Pearl Redfield Downing spent much of her time in our home when I was a child. She was dearly loved by me, and my card-playing companion for many years at those times. She smoked cigarettes, drank beer, and still lived to a ripe old age. She also had a lot of class. (She aways used the name, 'Pearl Redfield Downing', apparently very proud of her Redfield maiden name. After searching the Redfield ancestry, one easily sees why.)
