Sir John Butler Knt., 6th Earl of Ormonde was born circa 1422.3
Sir John Butler Knt., 6th Earl of Ormonde died on 14 October 1476 at Palestine; died unmarried.2,3
; per van de Pas: [quote]With his elder brother, he was intended on 22 February 1441, to serve the King in Normandy and France for one year. He became a squire for the King's body and, in August 1441, was imprisoned by the French. In 1450 he was exempted from the Act of Resumption. His services on the Lancastrian side in the War of the Roses were sufficient to warrant his inclusion, together with his brothers, in the Acts of Attainder of 1461 and 1462, in the former of which he is called a knight.
During the temporary restoration of Henry VI, in February 1471, he returned to England as Earl of Ormonde. However, before 23 November 1474, King Edward IV pardoned him and recognised him as Earl of Ormonde. The attainder of 1462 was annulled, on 21 July 1475, by an Act of Restitution. In the spring of 1476 he was in Rome and, according to family tradition, he died unmarried in The Holy Land, on pilgrimage, at some date before 15 June 1477.[end quote]3
