     EDV-9.

; Seen on Ancestry: BENNETT

As early as 1639 James Bennett's name, also spelled Bennit, Bennite,
Bennight, was listed in Concord, Massachusetts as a freeman, a citizen of
that place. In 1644 he removed with his family to Fairfield, Connecticut where
he died in 1659.His wife Hannah, a daughter of Thomas Wheeler, had the given name that
was handed down through generations to so many of the daughters of this Bennett
line, Thomas, a son of the first James and this Hannah, married Elizabeth
Thompson and they called one son James for his grandfather.

James of the third generation was born Aug, 1675; his wife was Deborah, a
daughter of Abraham Adams of Danbury. Thus came the name Abraham into
the Bennett family, being used for the next four generations; by Abraham
Bennett Sr. born about 1715; by Abraham Jr. born about 1742; by Abraham
3rd born 1778 and by his son Abraham William Henry Harrison Bennett born
1842.

Abraham Bennett 3rd came to Chemung Co. N. Y, from Orange Co. 8t
settled near Big Flats. He and his wife Peggy were buried in its yard when the
Baptist Church was near Sing Sing Creek.

Before the War of the Revolution, Abraham Bennett Sr. sold his land in
Fairfield County, Connecticut in Ridgefield and took his family across the
Hudson River. By 1775 he and Abraham Jr. were living in the town of War-
wick, Orange County, N. Y, after temporary locations in N.J. and in that part
of northern Pennsylvania to which the Colony of Connecticut then laid claim.
Assessment and militia rolls of Warwick show listed together the names of
Abraham and Abraham Jr. As late as 1777 Abraham Sr. received pay for
militia service and he was probably alive in 1784 when Abraham Jr. signed a
receipt using Jr. after his name. However the 1790 census lacks the name
of Abraham Sr. so it can be reasonably assumed that he died between the 1784
receipt date and the census taking.

Except for that of Abraham Jr. the names of the children of the older
Abraham are at present unknown. Their mother was Silence, daughter of
Samuel Hickox of Waterbury Conn. She was born there in 1713 and was
married to Abraham Bennett.5

MONTGOMERY STANDARD FRIDAY JANUARY 23, 1931 p. 1/3

MRS. GEORGE W. LOOKER PASSED AWAY SATURDAY

FUNERAL SERVICES HELD ON MONDAY AFTERNOON

Bowling Green Times Jan. 15.

Mrs. George W. Looker passed away at the home of her daughter Mrs. H. P. Eames in this city Saturday morning at 9:45 o'clock. She had been in failing health for some time, but her illness was not considered of a serious nature until about a week previous to her death.

She was well known in Montgomery county where she spent practically her entire life. About three years ago she and her husband moved to this city to reside, making their home with Mr. and Mrs. H.. Eames. On October 15, 1929, Mr. Looker passed away.

Mrs. Looker was a good woman and a kind neighbor and friend. Her kindly spirit toward all with whom she came in contact won for her their lasting friendship. The large concourse of friends attending the funeral and the beautiful floral offering attested the high esteem in which she was held.

A brief service was held at the home Monday at 12:30 o'clock and the body conveyed to Macedonia near her old home, where funeral services were held at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. B. D. Sipple of this city, and Rev. J. S. Eames on Olney. Following the service the body was laid to rest in the cemetery near the church.

During the funeral services the following account of her life was read.

Amy Temple McGinnis was born near Wright City, Mo., July 23, 1856, and died January 10, 1931, at the age of 74 years, 6 months, and 17days.

She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McGinnis. Her mother died when she was only six years of age, after which she made her home with her grandmother until her marriage to George Washington Looker, March 19, 1878. To this union were born four daughters, Evaleen, the wife of M. C. Merrihugh of Kansas City, Kansas; Georgia, the wife of Don E. Aldrich of Garfield, Kans; Edna Ruth, wife of H. P. Eames of Bowling Green. One daughter died in infancy.

Her husband having prepared a home near Bellflower, Mo., they located there and spent nearly 50 years, later moving to Bowling Green, where they lived until her husband died, October 15, 1929, after which she remained with her daughter, Ruth, who with her family tenderly cared for her until death occurred Saturday morning at 9:45. On March 19, 1928, they had the pleasure of observing their golden wedding anniversary, having walked happily together for 50 years.

Early in life she was converted under the preaching of Bishop Marvin in Wright City, Mo., later she with her husband united with the Presbyterian church at Brush Creek near the home.

When the Methodist church was organized in Bellflower, Mo., they placed their membership there, later transferring it to Bowling Green M. E. church South.

She leaves to mourn her going besides the immediate family one brother, John McGinnis, of Mexico, fifteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Mrs. Looker was greatly loved by all who knew her. She lived not for herself nor alone for her family, but for all alike. A great saint has been called home where there will be no more parting.

Geo. W. Looker of near Gamma attended a meeting of the Democratic committee in Montgomery last Saturday. George is enthusiastic over prospect of Bryan's election. He is also thinking seriously of becoming a candidate for judge of the county court, a place which as a small salary fee and a large amount of abuse attached to it. George would make a pretty safe official should he desire to try it and be elected, as he certainly would be.
