     "Charles Taylor McGinnis, who died in this city Saturday afternoon at 2:15, was born in Pike county, Missouri, July 1, 1846, the son of Strother Jefferson McGinnis and Elizabeth Lee Massy McGinnis.
     His parents were Missouri pioneers from Kentucky.
     Mr. McGinnis was married in 1874 to Miss Nancy Hughes Pratt, deceased. To this union were born nine children, of whom six survive. The living children are: Francis Kamp, Annie Pratt (Mrs. Hart), Nestor Massey, Perry Temple, Katherine Elizabeth (Mrs. Pieper), Hurley Elliott, MicGinnis. The deceased children are: Lee, Hazel and Hilda McGinnis.
     In 1896, Mr. McGinnis married Juliet Emma Henry, who survived him. To this union were born the following children: Juliet Emma (Mrs. W. A. Monte, Jr.), Mary Lee,and Charles Taylor McGinnis, Jr.
     Mr. McGinnis came to Texas from Missouri in 1883 and settled in the section between Elmo and College Mound. There he made a splendid success of farming and accumulated a competency. About twelve years ago he retired and moved to Terrel, where he has since lived.
     Interment will be made at College Mound this afternoon at 3 o'clock. Rev. J. F. Sherwood will officiate.

Dear Ed,

Thank you for your message. I have had a couple of answers to my query, but
the people weren't related to me. I'm really glad to hear from you. I am
the granddaughter of Charles Taylor McGinnis, a younger brother of Thomas
Massie McGinnis. Charles Taylor was born in Pike County, MO, in 1846. He
was the ninth of eleven children, according to the records I have. He and
the youngest brother, Strother Stephen, moved to Kaufman County Texas in the
1880's. I didn't know my grandfather; he died in 1925, ten years before I
was born. I did see my great uncle Strother and his wife Maggie a few times
when I was very small. My grandfather had ten children; my father was the
youngest. They are all gone now. My dad was the last one living, and he
passed away in 1985.

I would be happy to have any information that you have about the McGinnises,
and I will certainly share what I have. I have not been able to get back
any further than William McGinnis, who married Elizabeth Lillard in Franklin
County, KY, in 1807. Please let me know what kind of information you would
like to have on my part of the family. I have the names, birth dates and
places and in some cases, spouses, of Strother Jefferson and Elizabeth
Massie McGinnis' children. (You probably have that too.) I have the names
and some spouses of the children of William and Elizabeth Lillard McGinnis.
Most of my information comes (indirectly) from Strother Stephen McGinnis'
Bible. A cousin passed the information on to me 15 or 20 years ago.

I have one or two photos that I can scan and mail to you. Unfortunately,
there wasn't a photo of my grandfather's entire family. There was a 30-year
difference between my dad and his oldest brother. I do have a photo of my
grandparents, my dad and three or four of his sisters that was taken about 1910.

I forgot to mention that I have information on Elizabeth Lillard's family
that goes back to Capt. John Lillard, who fought in the Revolution in the
Culpeper County (VA) Militia. The Lillard family's documented history is
extensive, and several of them married McGinnises.

Family Archive CD #5 lists a marriage between a Sandy PRATT and Elizabeth HUDSON, Sec. IV, Ch. 24, Vernon Co., MO on 1 Oct. 1844.^13,14
;      N. B. There is some confusion concerning the parents of the Elizabeth HUDSON who married Alexander "Sandy" PRATT. Some researchers believe the parents were Zadock and Mildred (Adkinson) HUDSON. This relationship has been posted on Elizabeth and Zadock's Find A Grave memorial pages and some family trees (e.g., THE Tom Pratt Family Tree). Others believe that Elizabeth's parents were David and Ann (Caswell) HUDSON (e.g., the Smith- Evans- Sanders- Ittner Family Tree).
     While I have so far found no definitive proof of who her parents were, I do not believe that they were Zadock and Mildred (Adkinson) HUDSON. Zadock was born in SC and his wife in TN. Zadock died in MS in 1855 and appears there in both the 1840 and 1850 federal censuses.
     On the other hand, Elizabeth was born in VA (1826) and married Alexander PRATT in Warren Co., MO in 1844. I find it unlikely that Elizabeth's parents would have moved to MS by 1840, but would have left her in VA (or in MO).
     Alexander's nephew, Thomas P. PRATT (son of Alexander's brother, Thomas Briscoe PRATT), married Susan Elvira HUDSON, the daughter of David and Anna (Caswell) HUDSON. Elizabeth (HUDSON) PRATT was born in VA in 1826. Susan Elvira (HUDSON) PRATT was born in VA in 1829. David and Anna (Caswell) HUDSON were traveling from Culpeper Co., VA to Warren Co., MO ca 1834 when David apparently died enroute. Their youngest sister, Virginia Ann HUDSON, was born in MO in 1835, after Ann (CASWELL) HUDSON had arrived. Finally, in the 1830 census for Culpeper Co., VA, David appears with two daughters aged "Under 5" (i.e., born after 1825). the daughters Elizabeth and Susan match this perfectly. His third daughter was born until around (or just after) the time he died ca 1834/5. The 1840 Census (Elkhorn Twp., Warren Co., MO) shows an Ann HUDSON (with no adult male), with 6 children that perfectly match the age distribution of all of the known children, plus a daughter of the age of Elizabeth (b1826).
     This circumstantial evidence leads me to believe that it is more credible to assume that Elizabeth B. (HUDSON) PRATT was the dau. of David and Ann (CASWELL) HUDSON, and not of Zadock and Mildred (Adkinson) HUDSON. GA Vaut.^{15,16,17,18,19,20,21,22,23} He witnessed the beginning of military service of James Bryan at Revolutionary War, Kentucky, USA; Per DAR App #315355: "Served as member of Capt. John Holder's Company of Militia (Ky.)..He was in the Battle of Kings Mountain... Commissioned Lt. by the State of Va., and commanded a detachment of Ky. Militia."

      ;      N. B. There is some confusion concerning the parents of the Elizabeth HUDSON who married Alexander "Sandy" PRATT. Some researchers believe the parents were Zadock and Mildred (Adkinson) HUDSON. This relationship has been posted on Elizabeth and Zadock's Find A Grave memorial pages and some family trees (e.g., THE Tom Pratt Family Tree). Others believe that Elizabeth's parents were David and Ann (Caswell) HUDSON (e.g., the Smith- Evans- Sanders- Ittner Family Tree).
     While I have so far found no definitive proof of who her parents were, I do not believe that they were Zadock and Mildred (Adkinson) HUDSON. Zadock was born in SC and his wife in TN. Zadock died in MS in 1855 and appears there in both the 1840 and 1850 federal censuses.
     On the other hand, Elizabeth was born in VA (1826) and married Alexander PRATT in Warren Co., MO in 1844. I find it unlikely that Elizabeth's parents would have moved to MS by 1840, but would have left her in VA (or in MO).
     Alexander's nephew, Thomas P. PRATT (son of Alexander's brother, Thomas Briscoe PRATT), married Susan Elvira HUDSON, the daughter of David and Anna (Caswell) HUDSON. Elizabeth (HUDSON) PRATT was born in VA in 1826. Susan Elvira (HUDSON) PRATT was born in VA in 1829. David and Anna (Caswell) HUDSON were traveling from Culpeper Co., VA to Warren Co., MO ca 1834 when David apparently died enroute. Their youngest sister, Virginia Ann HUDSON, was born in MO in 1835, after Ann (CASWELL) HUDSON had arrived. Finally, in the 1830 census for Culpeper Co., VA, David appears with two daughters aged "Under 5" (i.e., born after 1825). the daughters Elizabeth and Susan match this perfectly. His third daughter was born until around (or just after) the time he died ca 1834/5. The 1840 Census (Elkhorn Twp., Warren Co., MO) shows an Ann HUDSON (with no adult male), with 6 children that perfectly match the age distribution of all of the known children, plus a daughter of the age of Elizabeth (b1826).
     This circumstantial evidence leads me to believe that it is more credible to assume that Elizabeth B. (HUDSON) PRATT was the dau. of David and Ann (CASWELL) HUDSON, and not of Zadock and Mildred (Adkinson) HUDSON. GA Vaut.^{4,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16}

William H. Vaut, a resident of the valley for the past sixteen years, died last Sunday at his home in O'Brien of cancer. Deceased was a native of Texas and was a life long member of the Christian Church, Rev. O. T. Law preaching the funeral service from Chittenden's chapel.
Interment was made in the Kent cemetery.
Deceased is survived by the widow Mollie J. Vaut, and one son, Emory D. Vaut, of Juneau, Alaska, and a daughter, Mrs. Fred H. Jordon of Seattle."
