     Reference: Two Ancestry family trees seem to offer some useful information on the ancestry of this Samuel MARKSBERRY/MARKSBURY, with some sources, but they link the William Douglas, 1st Duke of Queensbury through an immigrant "Samuel Douglas" who supposedly changed the name from DOUGLAS to MARKSBERRY. van de Pas shows no son of William named Samuel. Nor, while Dobson many any early Scot colonists named DOUGLAS, none of them are named Samuel.3,4,5,6,7,8 Samuel (III) Marksbury was also known as Samuel (III) Marksberry.9

     He is mentioned in the probate of the estate of William Fox in 1717 at Lancaster Co., Virginia, USA; Hill [1990:50] cites Lancaster Co., VA, Will Book 10:274-7. According to notes in Hill [1990:49-50] this will mentions several siblings.2
