David Gentry & Elizabeth Whitlock from Louisa County Virginia the first Gentry in this area. John Norment Gentry asks to be buried in the burying ground on the hill near the old Gentry House where his Mother and Father was Buried. There are many (57) unmarked graves in this cemetery(according to Jan Plemmons) so is not proven but it is pretty good circumstancial evidence . It is my hope to bring some focus into who these unmarked graves belong to as these people are my ancestors.

Gentry of the county and state aforesaid viewing the uncertainty of life and certainty of death and to avoid the many difficulties which arise from The neglect of men not preparing in health for difficulties which arise from the neglect of men not preparing in health for difficulties after death to their families in the distribution of their worldly affairs or substance and believing it to be my duty in as much as I am sorely afflicted in body but of sound and disposing mind and memory thanks be to God, do this the second day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty nine make and deliver this to be my last will and testament in the following manner. I bequeath my soul to God who gave it being and my body to the dust to be interred in the Burying Ground on the Hill near the old Gentry House (where my father and mother were buried) in a plain and decent manner. It is my will and desire that all my just debts should be paid first out of my estate. It is further my Will and desire that my beloved wife, shall keep and enjoy all my estate both personal and real, and as to my personal property to dispose of as she chooses, But to have free privileges on the land during her natural life. It is further my will (after the death of my wife) that my son John H. Gentry have all my land (two hundred and twenty-five acres in all) to have as his own and to dispose of as he chooses. It is my will after the death of my wife that all the personal property, shall be equally divided between my son John H. Gentry and my daughters Lucy Buckner wife of James Buckner and Elizabeth Buckner wife of Absolem Buckner, and as to my son William Gentry I leave to him a certain brown mare which he has already in possession. (see entry on William S. Gentry for a possible reason why he was disinherited). It is my will and desire that my executors hereinafter mentioned shall carry out my desires according to my will and divide my property and estate accordingly. It is my will and I wish it distinctly understood that after the death of my wife, I want my son John H. Gentry to have all my land as aforesaid and the personal property to be disposed of as above directed. It further my will and desire that my children be kind and obliging to their mother during her lifetime and endeavor to be friendly towards each other and all other persons in this world and above all prepare to meet each other in heave, which is my last and greatest desire. I hereby nominate constitute and appoint my son and sons in law my executors namely John H. Gentry, James Buckner and Absolem Buckner and I wish them to execute the same according to my will. I testimony where of I have hereunto signed sealed and published this to be my last will and testament. In the presence of R. V. Blackstock and Joshua Roberts. John Norment Gentry was buried in 1850 at Gentry Cemetery, Chapel Hill, Madison Co., North Carolina, USA;
from Find A Grave:
BIRTH 1783, Louisa County, Virginia, USA
DEATH 1850 (aged 66–67)
Son of David Gentry & Elizabeth Whitlock from Louisa County Virginia the first Gentry in this area. In his will he asks to be buried in the burying ground on the hill near the old Gentry House where his Mother and Father was Buried. There are many unmarked graves in this cemetery so is not proven but it is pretty good circumstancial evidence . It is my hope to bring some focus into who these unmarked graves belong to as these people are my ancestors.

Mary Polly Bunch was born on 10 March 1757 at Louisa Co., Virginia, USA.1 She married Blackston/Blaxton Gentry, son of Nicholas Gentry III and Elizabeth Stringer, in 1787 at Louisa Co., Virginia, USA,
;
His 1st of 2 wives.

Marriage Record #2: Blaxton Gentry in the Virginia, U.S., Compiled Marriages, 1660-1800

Mary Polly Bunch was buried between 1802 and 1815 at Burial location unknown ;
from Find A Grave:
BIRTH 10 Mar 1757, Louisa County, Virginia, USA
DEATH unknown, Bullitt County, Kentucky, USA
According to an Ancestry article about Barack Obama's Bunch lineage, Mary was the daughter of James Bunch b ca 1724. James was the 8th child of John Bunch III, who was the son of John II, who was the son of John I, who was the son of John Punch. According to James' will, he gave his daughter Molly (Mary Polly) Gentry 100 acres adjoining his own land and the tract he gave Margery Harris (and had already given her a cow, calf, and feather bed). Descendants of John Bunch III, include Barack Obama's white mother, Stanley Dunham, who we believe was descended from David Bunch.
John Punch was the immigrant who came from England in the 1600s as an indentured servant. Normally, indentured servants served for 7 years before attaining their freedom in order to pay for their passage from England. It is known that John Punch was either black or mulatto. He married a white woman. For further information about him you can google him and Wiki has a page about him. He was the first documented slave in America.
Mary's death year is unknown, but she must have died after the last child was born, so possibly 1802-1815, as Blaxton remarried in 1816. Mary married Blaxton Gentry 14 Mar 1786 in Louisa Co, and they had the following children:
1. James Gentry b 1787 VA
2. Joseph Gentry b 1789 VA
3. Nicholas Gentry b 1790 VA
4. Martin Gentry b 1793 VA
5. Samuel Gentry b 1794 VA
6. Elizabeth Gentry b 1796 VA
7. Mary Gentry b 1798 Bullitt Co KY
8. Ellison Gentry b 1800 Bullitt Co KY
9. Garland Gentry b 1802 Bullitt Co KY
In Sept 1816 Blaxston married Nancy Hough in KY and it is said that in the autumn of 1832 they moved their family to Stilesville, Hendricks, IN. Blaxston and Nancy had the following children:
10. Barry Monroe Gentry b 16 Jan 1821 KY
11. America Gentry
12. Eliza J. Gentry
13. Sarah Ann Gentry
14. John W. Gentry
15. Jeremiah Gentry
16. Melvin A. Gentry
17. Hezekiah Gentry
I have included Blaxton's second marriage and children because I do not own his memorial. Also, I am descended from their son, Martin Gentry.

Garland Gentry was born in Bullit County, Kentucky, on November 13, 1806. He was the last and ninth child of Blackston and Mary (Bunch) Gentry, and the fifth generation of the Gentrys in America. His brothers were James (who had sons Quinton, Taylor and John), Joseph, Nicholas (born in Louisa County, Virginia, December 16, 1790), Martin, Samuel and Ellison. After Garland's mother died, his father married Nancy Hough and they had seven children who were: Monroe, America, Elizabeth, Sarah, John, Jeremiah, and Hezekiah. It is believed the descendants of this last family have all settled in Indiana.
Garland married his first wife, Susan Stringer, in Kentucky. They had three children, Mary E. (born 1829 in Kentucky); after they moved to Indiana in 1831, their two sons were born, Ellison born in 1832 and Reuben born in 1838. After Susan died. They moved to Illinois where they settled near Hammond (once called Garrett), where another son, Jerimiah, was born June 22, 1865.
While living in Missouri, Garland and Penelope lived in Monroe and Clay counties. The 1850 Clay County census lists not only the Gentrys there but also: Robert James, 31 years old. Baptist preacher; Serelda James, 28 years old; Alexander Franklin James, ten years old; Jesse Woodson James, four years old; Susan James, nine months old.
Garland and Penelope lived near the parents of the notorious Frank and Jesse James, and Penelope was midwife at Jesse's birth. She was the first one to dress the future Missouri badman.
