     "Peter was born in the Easton area of Northampton Co PA in 1756. He came as a teenager to Rowan County with his parents about 1770. Peter served in the Revolutionary War as a guard at the Salisbury Jail and also in an expedition against the Cherokee Indian villages. In December 24 and December 25, 1778 he made land entries for 400 acres on Abbott's Creek and 150 acres on Lick Creek. He never seems to have obtained a grant for this land.
     "He married in 1779 to Hannah Cornelison whose father Conrad Cornelison was a neighbor on Abbotts' Creek. Hannah’s father Conrad Cornelison went to Wilkes Co GA (where Peter’s brother Caleb had gone in the 1780s) and died there in 1795. The Cornelison children left GA and migrated to Madison County to rejoin the rest of the family.
     "Peter and family migrated from Rowan County to Madison Co about 1797. He died in Madison Co in 1840. He settled on Muddy Creek where his brothers had settled when they came from Rowan County.
     "The birthdates for Peter Todd his wife Hannah and their 11 children were copied from a page in a bible owned by Luke Thornton in his handwriting evidently copied from an older record. These dates were reported by Calvin L. Moore in 1964. He was grandson of Luke Thornton (son of Salley Todd b 1793) and Cyrania Todd (dau of Jesse Todd b 1792).

One William Todd made affidavit in 1832 in Madison County, KY but no kinship given."
     "23-Feb-1841 State of KY, Madison County Seat: “I, David Irvine, Clk of the Court for the Court of Madison County on Tuesday the 23rd day of Feb 1841, this instrument of writing was produced in open court and proven to be the Last Will and Testament of Peter Todd, decd by the oath of Isaac Todd, subscribing witness thereto, and said Isaac Todd also sworn that the body of said Will and Testament, and signature thereto, were in the proper handwriting of said Peter Todd, decd, and ordered to enter of record which has been done accordingly. David Irvine, Clk.” (Transcribed by Randall E Raider 12/07/98. Peter's first three children, Jemima,Aaron, and Mary ‘Polly’ married children of Benjamin and Margaret Barkley Todd.

Listed in Davidson County, near Jersey Meetinghouse, with four horses, mules, and six cattle in 1783. Listed in Jersey area of Rowan County, NC in 1784. He is listed on the 1784 and 1790 tax lists for Rowan County, NC with 3M under 16. Peter was bondsman for Conrad Cornelison and Susanna Strange wedding. Listed in 1790 Rowan County Census. (Peter, along with his bro,Thomas (son of Benjamin, I) witnessed the will of their uncle, Caleb, in 1794 in Rowan County, NC). He applied for a pension on 15-Aug-1832 from Madison County, KY where he had lived for 37 years."
     "From Randall E Raider: "Peter Todd was a Pvt in the NC Militia. His pension application is dated 06-Nov-1832. His birthdates, as given on the application, was 1753 (actually 1756). The 1790 Federal Census of Rowan County, NC lists Peter as living in the Salisbury Dist of Rowan County. He moved his family ca 1796 on Muddy Creek, near Speedwell in Madison County, KY. I believe his original homestead in Madison County, KY is now part of the KY Blue Grass Depot. There was a large family cemetery located on the farm at Muddy Creek. There were over 70 graves located on the farm in 1943. Two Peter Todds were reinterred at the U.S. Cemetery. On the 1822 deed, Peter Todd is identified as Pete Todd Sr. This deed shows Peter Todd selling Jesse Todd 35acres on Muddy Creek." Peter Todd was born near Easton, PA 23-Jul-1756.The family lived in the area called the Drylands between Bethlehem and Easton. (Easton and Bethlehem were two different taxed areas). Peter served in the NCMilitia. His first six-month stint in 1776 was with Gen Rutherford under Cpt Robert Moore, Lt Davis, and Ens Joseph Cunningham. They went into Cherokee Indian country in retaliation for Indian attacks along the frontier. They 'burnt their towns and destroyed their corn.' He was out about six months. In 1780/81 he was drafted and spent three months fighting the Tories. Rev War Pension #S31430, recorded Clk of Madison County Court, Book D page 62 (Vol 9). Peter and Hannah moved to Madison County, KY where several other Todds, his father, Benjamin,bro Thomas, and others had moved, as did at least two of Hannah's brothers." Peter's will was probated in 1841. He was buried in the Todd Burial Ground. In 1942, their land near Speedwell, still in the hands of Todd descds, was taken over by the Bluegrass Ordinance Depot. The Todd graves were moved to the new cemetery across from the Ordinance Depot gate. Will dated 15-Mar-1824 and probated 23-Feb-1841, Madison County,KY. Wit: John Cornelison. Taxed in 1784 in Rowan County, NC in Cpt Carson's Company. (Peter Todd, 233 acres)." at Citation.³

     Joseph A. Todd, for many years a resident of McMinnville, died in Portland Sunday at the age of 83 years.
     Mr. Todd was born in Andrew county, Missouri, Dec. 28, 1855. He came to Oregon with his parents in 1865.
     In 1881 he married Miss Anna Wallace, who survives him. Also surviving are a brother, George Todd, and a sister, Mattie Todd, both of McMinnville.
     Todd was the last surviving charter member of the Oregon Fire Relief association, now the Oregon Mutual Fire Insurance company.
     Funeral services were held Wednesday at Salem, where interment was made.

     Walter Brashers married Elizabeth Basham December 17, 1829 in Lawrence County, Tennessee. They moved, with their four older children, to Lawrence County, Missouri in 1836. There they continued to increase the size of their family. Elizabeth died in Feb. 1863. It is said that Walter was killed by bushwhackers a few days after witnessing a gang of them stealing neighboring horses.

     "Died - At the residence of his father, Robert Brashears, Esq., on the 27th. ultimo, Jesse Brashears, after a long and painful illness, contracted in the service of the United States in Mexico.
     Mr. B. having been severly wounded in three places, in the assault on Monterey on the 21st. of September last. He had been at home but a short time, and seemed to be recovering from his wounds, when his constitution sunk during the late cold weather. All that skill and kindness could do was done to save this gallant and patriotic young man, for his family and his country.
     He left a wife and one child, with a numerous circle of friends to deplore the loss of one doubly endeared to them by his patient and manly suffering in the cause of his country.
     His funeral was attended by a very large number of our citizens in arms, under the command of his old Captain and companion in danger and glory, Col. Alexander, who, after an eloquent and touching funeral oration by the venerable and Rev. Allen Jones of the Baptist Church, performed the usual military ceremony at the grave. There has seldom been a more touching scene anywhere.
     The military array of Col. Alexander's escort, the multilated and scarred companions of the gallant dead, the weeping relations and friends standing in the bleak wintry winds around the venerable orator, while he portrayed the freeman's duty and the Christian's sure hope, at the soldier's grave presented a most sad yet pleasing picture. Many who have soon forgotten their solemn feelings on similar occasions, will long retain a lively recollection of this funeral scene."¹

     Jesse Brashears married Margaret D. Scoles on 9 Dec 1842 in Lawrence Co., TN. They had one child, Robert S. Brashears, born ca 1844.
     On 1 Jun 1846, Jesse was mustered into the 1st Tennessee Regiment Infantry, Company K, as a private. The regiment left on 4 Jun 1846 by steamboat for down the Cumberland, Tennessee and Mississippi rivers to New Orleans. A month later, every soldier of the 1st Tennessee was safely ashore in Mexico.
     The Battle for Monterrey began in earnest on 21st September, and the Tennessee Regiments were sent in a flanking action to take Fort de La Teneria under withering artillery fire. Jesse Brashears was wounded severely three times in the intense fight. His unit, the 1st Tennessee, was first to go over the fort's walls and capture it, receiving a nickname for their regiment's heroism under fire - "The Bloody First."
     Jesse Brashears was sent to the Monterrey Hospital, now under American auspices, on 25 Sep 1846. Later, Jesse was discharged 15 Nov 1846 at Monterrey on a surgeon's certificate for disability. Jesse was taken back to Tennessee to his father's house in hopes he might fully recuperate from his wounds. Unfortunately, that was not to be.

     Elizabeth was the daughter of John Thompson (c.1777 - pre 1860), of Eyemouth, Berkwickshire, Scotland, and Jane (Kerr) Thompson (c.1778 - post 1860), who was born in England. John and Jane emigrated to America about 1824.
     In the 1850 Census, John and Jane were living in Baltimore City, Maryland, and he was a "clerk." In the 1860 U.S. Census, Jane was living in York, York County, Pennsylvania, with the family of her daughter, Elizabeth.
     Jane is buried in Matthews Lot #362, Prospect Hill Cemetery, York, York County, Pennsylvania.
     The known children of Elizabeth and George were:
     1) Penelope Talbot Matthews (11 July 1839 - 14 Aug 1856) was born and died in Baltimore County, Maryland. She was not living with her parents in the 1850 Census.
     2) Frances Jane Matthews (17 Aug 1841 - 14 Aug 1856) was born in Baltimore County, Maryland. She died in Westminster, Carroll County, Maryland.
     3) Robert "Charles" Kerr Matthews (4 Jan 1843 - 18 Dec 1900) was born in Maryland. He was living next to his father in the 1870 Census, and he was an "insurance agent." In the 1880 Census, Charles was a "commercial agent." The 'R.C. Matthews Bazaar' is located at 28-30-32 West Main Street in Westminster. In 1896, R. Charles Matthews furnished the brick for the First National Bank of Westminster built at 6 East Main Street. This building was demolished in 1962. Titus was born in Maryland. Isabella was living in Kenton, Hardin County, Ohio, when her father died in 1903. Isabella was buried in Grove Cemetery in Kenton on 11 Sept 1927. Belle Grove Square in Westminster is named after her.

     Ann [2nd] married Austin Lane (20 Feb 1820 - 1 Feb 1884) on 28 May 1876 in Knox County, Illinois. In the 1880 Census, Austin and Ann were living in Orange, Knox County, Illinois. Ann's two daughters, Elizabeth and Mary, were living with them. Austin Lane is buried with his first wife, Mary (Varner) Lane (1843 - 12 Sept 1876). They had married on 6 Sept 1841 in Athens, Ohio.
     Ann [3rd] married George Washington Matthews (7 Feb 1814 - 23 Aug 1903) on 25 Jan 1887 as his third wife. In the 1900 Census, George and Ann were living at 11 John Street in Westminster, Carroll County, Maryland. Ann had 4 children and only 2 were still alive in 1900.

     In the 1920 Census, Ann was living at 667 West King Street, Martinsburg, Berkeley County, West Virginia, with the family of her daughter, Elizabeth.
     29 Jan 1921 - "Matthews, Mrs. Anna Maria, formerly Miss Anna Frey of Gettysburg, died Tuesday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Barbehenn of Martinsburg, where Mrs. Matthews has been making her home. She was 88. Survivors, in addition to Mrs. Barbehenn, are a second daughter, Mrs. O.G. Bankert of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania; four brothers, Samuel Frey and Charles Frey, both of York, Pennsylvania, John Frey of Littlestown, Pennsylvania, and William Frey of Gettysburg; a sister, Mrs. Jennie Benchorf, Steelton, Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The body will be taken to Gettysburg Wednesday where the funeral and interment will be held Friday under the direction of Bender's funeral home."
     The other known child of Daniel and Ann was Elizabeth Jane (Miller) Barbehenn (23 Nov 1859 - 25 Aug 1923). She was christened on 18 Dec 1859 in Christ Reformed Church, Littlestown, Adams County, Pennsylvania. Elizabeth married George William Barbehenn (2 Mar 1864 - 13 Oct 1944) on 11 Aug 1866 in Gettysburg.
