William H. Young was born in 1831 at Born along James Creek, South Carolina, USA.1
He was a mentioned with Thomas Young and Sarah (?) at Citation; Per Young [2011:1129]:
"Thomas Young [y1e2], son of Richard Young and Isobel _____ of the James Creek-Tyger River community of Spartanburg Co SC, was born there about 1797 and remained there the remainder of his life. The 1790 through the 1810 censuses of the county show a male of a generation older than Thomas living with Richard, or living very close to him. In the 1820 census there was no Thomas Young of this age in the county; see the following Thomas Young entry. In September 1815 a Thomas Young witnessed a gift from Richard to Thomas' sister Mary. Richard did name a son Thomas in his 1837 will, so there is no doubt that Richard did have a son of that name. In the 1830 census Thomas first appeared, called "Capt Thomas Young," and was newly married, living quite close to Richard Young. In the 1840, Thomas was the only Thomas Young in Spartanburg Co (age 40s); he lived two doors from William Young (age 20s), and Asa Vise (age 40s) lived between them. In 1850 Thomas was living close to his brother William Anthony Young in Spartanburg Co. Thomas had a wife named Sarah _____ who was born in SC about 1804 (age 30s in 1840 census). Thomas died in the 1860s in Spartanburg Co. Sarah died there in the 1850s. He had six children, all apparently born along James Creek in Spartanburg Co:

William Tod1

M, #97997, b. circa 1624
ChartsAncestors - Martha Elizabeth HART
ReferenceGAV8
Last Edited2 May 2022
William Tod was born circa 1624 at Scotland (prob.)1
      ; NB:
On 1 May 2022, I began making several important changes in my TODD family line. There were a number of different TODD families who settled in the American colonies, coming from the United Kingdom. A group of TODD family researchers, with results published by Richard McMurtry [2013] [2022], have built an ancestry with a William TOD as the progenitor of my line.
I have found that I have two lines of descent from Joseph TODD (c1748-1810) and his wife Anna Maria CROUSE/GROSE (c1750-bef 1810), my 4th great grandparents. The first line is from their son, Isaiah TODD (1772-1840) and his first wife, Prudence ALEXANDER (1776-1852). The second line of descent is through their daughter, Nancy TODD (c1790-aft 1870) and her second husband, Armstrong HART (c1776-1829).
My earlier version (v.A) of the ancestry of Joseph TODD (c1748-1810) was as follows (in Ahnentafel form):
Version A
1 Joseph TODD (c1748-1810)
2 Thomas TODD (1723-1777)
3 Elizabeth CUMMINS (unk-1772)
4 Joshua TODD (1681-1719)
6 Richard CUMMINS (1670-1729)
7 Sarah PARSONS (unk-unk)
8 Joseph TODD (1645-1699)
9 Joane SWIFT (1650-unk)
16 John TODD (1594-1677)
17 Elizabeth MALLORY (unk-unk)
32 (FNU) TODD (unk-unk)

My current revisions (v.B), based on the work published by McMurtry, now shows:
Version B
1 Joseph TODD (c1748-1810) - same as v.A
2 Thomas TODD (1723-1777) - same as v.A
3 Elizabeth CUMMINS (unk-1772) - same as v.A
4 Caleb TODD (1686-unk) - brother of no. 4 (Joshua) in v.A
6 Richard CUMMINS (1670-1729) - same as v.A
7 Sarah PARSONS (unk-unk) - same as v.A
8 Joseph TODD (1645-1699) - same as v.A
9 Joane SWIFT (1650-unk) - same as v.A
16 William TOD (c1624-unk) - replaces no. 16 in v.A

My earlier work was based on a combination of earlier version (pre-2012) of McMurtry's work and a number of other pedigrees published on various websites and published research (e.g., Paxton [1897:129]. One source of early errors (corrected by McMurtry's later publications) was the confusion of two different men named Thomas TODD who lived at the beginning of the Revolutionary war. In McMurtry's words: "The misleading information about there being two Thomas TODDs in Rowan County came from a DAR record which erroneously identified the Thomas Todd who died while serving in the Revolutionary War as the Thomas of Rowan County."
Much of McMurtry's later published TODD family genealogy is based on some rather extensive DNA analyses of samples from hundreds of Todd family descendants and a much more extensive review of early records. This work helped to pinpoint Caleb TODD (1686-unk) as the probable father of Thomas TODD (1723-1777), rather than Caleb's brother, Joshua (1689-1719), as I had earlier shown. The record of Joseph TODD as a son of William TOD is from an Eling (Southamptonshire, England) Parish Register baptism record recorded by McMurtry as "Joseph and Benjamin, sons of William Tod, 15-Jan-1645". McMurtry also records another likely son of William TOD: "Todd Samuel, son of William Tod of Eling, Yeo to John Swift, glazier, for 7 years from date of indenture, 23-Dec-1678. Entered 14-Jun-1683." (citing the Calendar of Southampton Apprenticeship Registers 1609-1740).1,2,3,4 GAV-8.

; Per McMurtry [2013]:
"The Tod family surname first appears in the records of Berwickshire(Scotland) where they were recorded as an ancient Berwickshire family before the year 1100. There is a Todd family from Fifeshire north of Edinburgh that shares a common DNA pattern with the Todds of Southamptonshire, but we can not document any connection between these two families. The Tod family was affiliated with many different clans through marriage. The Clan Gordon claims the Tod/Todd family as a Sept, entitled to clan rights, including the use of the clan tartan. The tartan is blue and green with a yellow stripe in a plaid pattern. The ancient Tod family Coat of Arms of Scotland is described as follows: the Shield, silver with three foxes’ heads; the Crest, a fox seated, and the motto is ‘Oportet Vivere,’ which means, ‘It behooves us to live!’.1 "

"Caleb Todd was born in Pennsylvania probably in Northampton County sometime in the 1750s, possibly 1751 as estimated by family historians. His appearance in the tax lists of Rowan Co NC in 1779 requires a birth prior to 1758.
"His assumed grandfather Caleb Todd may have settled in the Northampton County in the 1740s when it was still part of Bucks County. His father Benjamin Todd and his uncles Thomas and Caleb were on the Northampton County tax lists 1761-1768.
"He travelled with his parents about 1770 to Rowan County North Carolina when he was in his teens. He was in Rowan County tax lists in 1779.
"He married in the late 1770s based on the birth of his first child Benjamin Todd about 1778.
"In 1778, he made a land entry for 150 acres on Toms Creek. Shortly thereafter he went to seek his fortune in Georgia. He was definitely there by 1781 when his son William was born in Georgia. Caleb first appears in the Georgia records in October 1786, when a land purchase by Thomas Brown mentions Caleb Todd and William Smith as adjoining neighbors in Wilkes County. (Early Records of Georgia (Vol I) Wilkes County abstracted and compiled by Grace Gillam Davidson, The J. W. Burke Company, Macon GA 1932 (GA Archives) page 249, Wilkes County Deed Book AA page 144 1785-1787: "Criswell, Samuel to Thos Brown 350 acres on Long Creek adjacent to Caleb Tod and William Smith. Oct 7, 1786, Joseph Cook and Jonathan Webster, Test.") At the same time, in 1786, he seems to have finalized the process in Rowan County to get the Toms Creek land he entered in 1778. When Caleb first came to Georgia, he appeared on the tax lists without land in the Fishing Creek watershed, but soon acquired an interest on the waters of Clark’s Fork of Long Creek which lay slightly to the west of Heard’s Mill Creek a branch of Fishing Creek . He was taxed in both places until 1792 suggesting that he was living somewhere in the Fishing Creek watershed until he moved to his land on Long Creek watershed in 1792. He may have lived during those early years with or near William and Mary (Todd) Scudder who were taxed in 1785 with neighbors who lived on Hoggs Branch and Heard’s Mill Branch of Fishing Creek.
"The year after Caleb got his grant in 1788 (Caleb Tode, Grant Book PPP, p 376, 200 acres 1788), William Scudder got a grant in 1789 with neighbors who appear to have lived on Morris Branch of Fishing Creek just to the north of Heard’s Mill Branch. So perhaps the Scudders moved north to Morris Branch just as Caleb moved west to a branch of Clark’s Fork. He sold 150 acres on Tom's Creek in Rowan County in 1795 while living in "Wilks" County, Georgia. Witnesses were his father and brothers: Benjamin Todd, Benjamin Todd Jr. and Peter Todd. 192: Book 11, p 12 25 Oct 1786 State Grant #1393 to Caleb Todd, 150 acres on both sides of Tom Creek adj James Maidwell 3008: Book 14 p 555 22 Jan 1795. Caleb Todd of Wlks Co GA to William Riley of Rowan..159 ac on Toms Creek adj James Maidwell. Wit: Benjamin Todd, Peter Todd, Benjamin Todd Jr. Prvd by PTere Todd at Aug Ct 1796 By the time of his grant in Wilkes County, he had had four sons: Benjamin b 1778 in NC, John b 1770-80, William b 1781 in Georgia and Reuben b 1785 in Georgia.
"Sometime between 1785 and 1793, Caleb married Sarah Bentley. She may have been a sister or a cousin of Jeremiah Bentley who Caleb lived near when he first came to Georgia though it is possible she was from the Bentley family of Rowan Co We assume that Caleb married in Wilkes County to Sarah Bentley because we assume that Sarah Bentley Todd of the 1810 tax list in Scott County is the mother of Samuel Bentley Todd b 1802 GA and Abel Todd b 1795 GA who married in the area around Scott County and that Samuel Bentley and Abel Todd are Caleb’s sons. There seems to be a Bentley connection because (1) William Scudder, his brother-in-law lived near Jeremiah Bently, (2) Caleb while living on a branch of Clark’s Fork in 1795 had a court case against Jeremiah Bentley to recover a debt owed to Caleb, even though they were living 5 miles apart, (3) Abel Todds’ DNA matches the DNA pattern of Caleb’s family. During the next several years, Caleb and Sarah grew their family. Edith was born in 1793, Abel in 1795, Sarah in1798 and Samuel Bentley Todd in 1802. Also during this period, Caleb was involved with several legal dealings such as estate settlements and a court case to recover a debt. Caleb and Thomas Brown made an inventory of the estate of James Montgomery in 1794 for which David and Rebecca Montgomery were administrators. James Montgomery lived on land which bordered both the watersheds of Fishing Creek and the watersheds of Clarks Fork of Long Creek. In 1795, Caleb Todd was involved in a court case against Jeremiah Bentley due to being owed money and Bentley’s attorney indicated that Bentley would either pay the money or he would do it for him. By 1796, the case was settled by mutual consent. (Wilkes County Georgia, p 290, 28 Oct 1795 and 1796 p 25)., He was one of the persons appointed as administrator of the estate of Robert Kilgore in 1796. Caleb was one of several appointed to appraise the estate of Thomas Phillips in Wilkes County in 1798. A 1790 Wilkes County GA Census prepared from tax returns documents the two places of taxation: Abstracts of the 1790 Tax Returns compiled by Frank Parker Hudson: “Cpt Kimbrough’s Dist B: Caleb Todd no acreage recorded, William Scudders (Wilkes ) 170 acres, James Montgomery (Wilkes) 200 acres, District O: Caleb Todd (Wilkes) 200 acresCpt Smith's Dist E: John Todd (Wilkes) 550 acres. Cpt Wiley's Dist: John Cornelison (Wilkes) 170 acres, James Montgomery (Wilkes) 200 acres, Conrad Cornelison (Wilkes) 500 acres, Conrad Cornelison Jr, no acreage, and Caleb Todd (Wilkes) 200 acres.” (Ed note: This John Todd in Wilkes Co was an unrelated John Todd from Mecklenburg Co NC who later moved to Putnam County, Georgia and died there in 1815.
"Conrad Cornelison had a daughter who married Peter Todd b 1756 and later removed to Madison Co. The Montgomerys had estate settlements that the Todds were involved with.) Caleb began transferring his lands to his eldest son Benjamin in 1799 and completed the transfer by 1804. In 1799, he transferred 60 of his acres to Benjamin Todd. In 1800, Caleb is listed as Kallep Todd with 140 acres on Long Creek as well as 90 acres on Grays Creek. Gray’s Creek is interesting because this is where lived one of the sons of William Bentley, uncle of Jeremiah. In 1802, he appears with only the 140 acres on Clark’s Creek. Benjamin Todd has 53 acres on Clark’s Creek (originally granted to C. Todd) and Aaron Todd is listed as a defaulter. In the 1805 land lottery which was based on residence in Georgia in 1802, both Benjamin and Caleb drew twice, meaning they had children less than 21 living with them.
"Caleb does not appear in the tax lists thereafter, meaning he has either died or left the county.
"In 1804, Benjamin Todd is listed with 189 acres on Clarks Creek that was originally granted to C. Todd. So virtually all Caleb’s land had reverted to Benjamin. In 1804 and 1805, a Caleb Todd appears on the tax lists in Madison County. We believe this is the Caleb Todd of Wilkes County because Reuben and William also appear on the Madison County tax lists between 1803 and 1806 and because Sarah Bentley Todd appears on a tax list in Scott Co KY in 1810. We surmise that Caleb, his wife and children moved to Madison Co about 1803, that Caleb died about 1806, that William b 1781 and Reuben b 1785 decided to go south to Rutherford Co TN with their Todd kin - uncle Benjamin b 1759 and cousin Aaron b 1784 rather than go with their step-mother, and that Sarah Bentley Todd went north with her children to Scott Co where she appears on the Scott Co tax list of 1810.
Autosomal DNA from Benjamin b 1778, John b 1770-80, William b 1781, Reuben b 1785 and Abel b 1795 suggest that they are all brothers and roughly approximately the same genetic distance to each other compared to other Todds from other lines.
"Children of Caleb: Caleb is documented to have children under 21 living with him in 1802 because he was eligible to draw twice in the land lottery. The 1850 census of Jones County says Benjamin was born in NC in 1778.
"The only Todds in the Jersey Settlement area of Rowan County who appeared on the 1779 tax list were Benjamin, his widowed sister-in-law Elizabeth Todd, his brother Caleb, his son Peter and a second Caleb, presumably the son of Benjamin. The only one of these who could be the father of Benjamin b 1778 is the second Caleb. . Hence Benjamin Todd b 1778 is the son of Caleb of Wilkes Co Ga. This explains why Benjamin acquired Caleb’s land without deed.
"The Mary Todd who married 1783 to William Scudder in 1783 and came to Wilkes Co and settled initially in the same area as Caleb Todd. has been asserted to be a daughter or a sister of Caleb. The main reason for thinking that Mary Todd Scudder was a daughter of Caleb derives from the statement in the 1936 Woodbury and Cannon County history that the Mrs. Mary Todd 1762-1866 of Cannon County TN was the sister of Benjamin Todd b 1759 and hence sister to Caleb. Since Caleb couldn’t have had two sisters named Mary, if Mrs. Mary Todd was his sister, then Mary Todd Scudder could not be Caleb’s sister. However, the county history appears to be in error. Based on the 1850 and 1860 census, Mrs. Mary Todd of Cannon Co was born in NC in the 1760s before the Todds came from Pennsylvania to North Carolina; so she could not have been born a Todd. So if she wasn’t the sister of Caleb, then Mary Todd Scudder could be a sister. For Caleb to have had a daughter, Mary, Caleb born 1751 would have had to have been 16 when he had Mary and that Mary would have had to have been 16 when she married William Scudder in 1783. This is not impossible, but it seems more likely that Mary was a sister born about 1762 and therefore too old to be Caleb’s daughter.
"John Todd b 1770-1780 lived next door to Benjamin Todd b 1778 and had legal dealings with him and shares the same male DNA pattern. So he is considered a brother to Benjamin. William b 1781 and Reuben b 1785 were shown to have the same male DNA pattern and also the Family Finder DNA test showed them closely related to both Benjamin Todd b 1778 and Abel Todd b 1795. Abel Todd b 1795 was shown to have the same male DNA pattern as the others considered to be children and the family finder test showed them all to be close kin. Though the Family Finder test was not absolutely 100% certain that all 5 of these were brothers, as opposed to first cousins, the preponderance of data suggests that that is the most likely interpretation of the data.
Land Lotteries 1803 page 299: “The land given out is this lottery was obtained from the Creek Indians in a treaty at Fort Wilkinson on Jun 16, 1802 and included the territory south of the Oconee and Altamaha Rivers. This land was divided into three counties: Wayne, Wilkinson, and Baldwin. The lots in Wayne consisted of 490 acres each, those in Baldwin and Wilkinson 202 ½ acres each, three thousand two hundred and forty acres reserved for a town to be called Milledgeville. Those entitled to draw were every free white male 21 years and upwards, and an inhabitant of the state twelve months immediately preceding the passage of this act, who had paid tax, one draw; every free white male having a wife and one or more legitimate children, two draws; all widows having legitimate children, two draws; all families of orphans having no parents, two draws. No mention is made of military service in this act and no provision is made for soldiers of any war.” Wilkes County, GA: “We the Justices of the Inferior Court having met the 13th day of Jun 1803 for the purpose of receiving the names of the inhabitants of the county and the draws to which they are entitled by an Act of the General Assembly, passed May 11 last, do hereby certify that the persons hereinafter named are entitled to the number of draws designated by the figures one and two opposite their names; Vis: P page 317: Todd, Benjamin-2 Caleb-2 Todd, Aaron-1.” Hence Benjamin and Caleb both had young children living with them and Aaron was single and a taxpayer 12 months before the census)." at Citation.1

No mention is made of military service in this act and no provision is made for soldiers of any war.” Wilkes County, GA: “We the Justices of the Inferior Court having met the 13th day of Jun 1803 for the purpose of receiving the names of the inhabitants of the county and the draws to which they are entitled by an Act of the General Assembly, passed May 11 last, do hereby certify that the persons hereinafter named are entitled to the number of draws designated by the figures one and two opposite their names; Vis: P page 317: Todd, Benjamin-2 Caleb-2 Todd, Aaron-1.” Hence Benjamin and Caleb both had young children living with them and Aaron was single and a taxpayer 12 months before the census)." at Citation.2

John Todd was born on 3 June 1752 at Easton, Northampton Co., Pennsylvania, USA.1
     Reference: Per McMurtry [2013]:
"John was born in 1752 in Pennsylvania, probably in Philadelphia, prior to the move of his father and uncles to the Easton area in Northampton County between 1752 and 1761.John was born in 1752 in Pennsylvania, probably in Philadelphia, prior to the move of his father and uncles to the Easton area in Northampton County between 1752 and 1761. John does not appear on the 1779 tax list for Rowan County where his father had moved about 1770; so he either had died or moved from the county. Since the references to John Todd ascribed to this John Todd b 1752 have been proven to be references to other John Todds, there are no further references to this John Todd other than the birth date. So it is now assumed that he died young. This also leaves space on the family tree of Benjamin Todd for John Todd b 1773 to be his son. Below is a list of references previously attribted to this John Todd b 1752 that have proved to be references to other John Todds. 1. The historians noted a John Todd on the tax lists of Wilkes County GA where Caleb Todd (brother to John Todd b 1752) had moved and therefore concluded that John b 1752 had moved to Georgia as well. However, the John Todd of the Wilkes County tax lists was a John Todd from an unrelated family from Mecklenburg County, North Carolina who died in Putnam County GA in 1815. 2. The historians thought that John b 1752 was the John Todd who died 1819 in Jones County, Georgia and was related to the Benjamin Todd 1778-1855 who lived in northern Jones County. However, this John Todd who died in Clinton, Jones County Georgia 1819-1825 was in South Carolina in 1802 and had children who married in Clinton. , (2) 3. The historians thought the John Todd b 1752 had sons Benjamin and Levi but the John Todd who had sons Benjamin and Levi was a much younger John Todd b 1770-1780 and presumed to be brother of Benjamin Todd 1778-1855 and presumed to be a son of Caleb Todd b 1751. The John Todd born b 1770-80 who lived on the Putnam-Jones County border next door to Benjamin Todd b 1778 d 1855 moved to Henry Co by 1830 and to Meriwether Co GA by 1835, 4. The historians thought that John Todd b 1752 was the John Todd who married Margaret Erwin in Rowan County NC. However, the John Todd who married Margaret Erwin was from an unrelated family from Lancaster Co Pennsylvania. 5. The historians thought that John Todd b 1752 was the John Todd who was a bondsman on the marriage of Elizabeth Todd to Andrew McClain in Rowan Co in 1775. However, this John Todd was the John Todd of the Grant’s Creek area 20 miles south of where the Todds of Northampton Co PA settled when they came to Rowan Co. There only John Todds on the 1779 tax list for Rowan Co are the John Todds of the Grants Creek area. Andrew McClain bought land on Cathey’s Creek in 1772 and sold it with his wife Elizabeth in 1775. Andrew Mclain had a brother Joseph McClain who owned lands on Grants Creek where John Todd also lived. Also, a Jones County (Georgia) History also mixed up several different John Todds. John Todd Jr "is supposed (by Buckner researchers) to have been b. abt 1745 in Bucks County, PA to John Todd Sr and his wife, Sarah Giffin. They also had a son named Giles. Other research has Sarah Giffin m. to John's father, Benjamin. John and Margaret Erwin, under this theory, were m. in Rowan County, NC. Their sons, Benjamin (1778) and Levi were born there. Later, John lived in Wilkes County, GA and was a Lt in the Home Guard in 1803. He bought land in Clinton, GA in 1807 and sold it to Benjamin in 1811 (the deed names Margaret as the wife of John Jr). There are numerous errors in the Jones County history, The John Todd and Sarah who had a son John and a son Giles are the John and Sarah Todd who settled on the southeast coast of Georgia in St Andrews Parish (later Liberty County) in the 1750s. John Todd who bought land in Clinton, Jones County in 1807 sold it in 1819 to Benjamin Trapp, not Benjamin Todd. Benjamin Todd married Sarah Giffin/Griffin. As mentioned above, John Todd who married Margaret Erwin was from a Lancaster Co PA family. The Wilkes Co John Todd was from the Mecklenburg Co NC Todd family which was related to Mary Todd Lincoln. The only John Todd in Georgia that is a possibility for John Todd b 1752 is an unidentified John Todd who was accused of being a loyalist in 1783 in Burke County. Twenty years later, in 1802, a John Todd in Burke County was eligible for two draws in the 1805 Georgia Land Lottery. However, we have no supporting evidence that this was John Todd b 1752. at Citation.1

Conrad Cornelison was a mentioned with Peter Todd and Hannah Anne Cornelison at Citation; Per McMurtry [2013]:
"Peter was born in the Easton area of Northampton Co PA in 1756. He came as a teenager to Rowan County with his parents about 1770. Peter served in the Revolutionary War as a guard at the Salisbury Jail and also in an expedition against the Cherokee Indian villages. In December 24 and December 25, 1778 he made land entries for 400 acres on Abbott's Creek and 150 acres on Lick Creek. He never seems to have obtained a grant for this land.
"He married in 1779 to Hannah Cornelison whose father Conrad Cornelison was a neighbor on Abbotts' Creek. Hannah’s father Conrad Cornelison went to Wilkes Co GA (where Peter’s brother Caleb had gone in the 1780s) and died there in 1795. The Cornelison children left GA and migrated to Madison County to rejoin the rest of the family.
"Peter and family migrated from Rowan County to Madison Co about 1797. He died in Madison Co in 1840. He settled on Muddy Creek where his brothers had settled when they came from Rowan County.
"The birthdates for Peter Todd his wife Hannah and their 11 children were copied from a page in a bible owned by Luke Thornton in his handwriting evidently copied from an older record. These dates were reported by Calvin L. Moore in 1964. He was grandson of Luke Thornton (son of Salley Todd b 1793) and Cyrania Todd (dau of Jesse Todd b 1792).
"A bible record of Luke Thornton, grandson of Peter Todd, included copies of records from an older Bible which recorded the children of Peter Todd : Jemima Todd b Dec 8, 1780 Aaron Todd b Aug 27, 1784 Polley Todd b July 16, 1786 Giffin Todd b Jan 7, 1788 William Todd b Aug 24, 1789 Anna Todd b Oct 24, 1790 Jesse Todd b Mar 1, 1792 Salley Todd b June 19, 1793 Jeremiah Todd b Arp 23, 1795 Hannah Todd b Mar 26, 1798 Spicy Todd b Jan 18, 1800 Peter was listed on the 1790 Rowan County, NC Census, Salisbury Dist, with 1M over 16, 3M under 16, and 4 Free White Females.      "From Randall E Raider: "Peter Todd was a Pvt in the NC Militia. His pension application is dated 06-Nov-1832. His birthdates, as given on the application, was 1753 (actually 1756). The 1790 Federal Census of Rowan County, NC lists Peter as living in the Salisbury Dist of Rowan County. He moved his family ca 1796 on Muddy Creek, near Speedwell in Madison County, KY. I believe his original homestead in Madison County, KY is now part of the KY Blue Grass Depot. There was a large family cemetery located on the farm at Muddy Creek. There were over 70 graves located on the farm in 1943. Two Peter Todds were reinterred at the U.S. Cemetery. On the 1822 deed, Peter Todd is identified as Pete Todd Sr. This deed shows Peter Todd selling Jesse Todd 35acres on Muddy Creek." Peter Todd was born near Easton, PA 23-Jul-1756.The family lived in the area called the Drylands between Bethlehem and Easton. (Easton and Bethlehem were two different taxed areas). Peter served in the NCMilitia. His first six-month stint in 1776 was with Gen Rutherford under Cpt Robert Moore, Lt Davis, and Ens Joseph Cunningham. They went into Cherokee Indian country in retaliation for Indian attacks along the frontier. They 'burnt their towns and destroyed their corn.' He was out about six months. In 1780/81 he was drafted and spent three months fighting the Tories. Rev War Pension #S31430, recorded Clk of Madison County Court, Book D page 62 (Vol 9). Peter and Hannah moved to Madison County, KY where several other Todds, his father, Benjamin, bro Thomas, and others had moved, as did at least two of Hannah's brothers." Peter's will was probated in 1841. He was buried in the Todd Burial Ground. In 1942, their land near Speedwell, still in the hands of Todd descds, was taken over by the Bluegrass Ordinance Depot. The Todd graves were moved to the new cemetery across from the Ordinance Depot gate. Will dated 15-Mar-1824 and probated 23-Feb-1841, Madison County,KY. Wit: John Cornelison. Taxed in 1784 in Rowan County, NC in Cpt Carson's Company. (Peter Todd, 233 acres)."1
