Linton enlisted in Company I, Arkansas 1st Infantry Regiment on March 20, 1863 and mustered out on March 23, 1864 at Fort Smith. Linton died sometime before July 1865 when Sophronia E. Springston filed for a widow's pension. By about 1867, Sophronia had remarried to James Marion Smith.
