Samuel Silvey appeared in the census of 1840 at Roane Co., Tennessee, USA; There are two census records for a Samuel SILVEY in the 1840 census for Roane Co., TN. Neither of them contains a young woman of the correct age to have been his possible then unmarried daughter, Mary Ann (who married Edward C. Dickey). They supposedly married in 1842.
Record #1: In one 1840 census record, a Samuel SILVEY is on the same page (p. 70) as a John SILVEY (line 7) and a William SILVEY (line 10). He is alson on the page before the Samuel DICKEY (p. 71, line 5), who was the father of Edward C. Dickey, who may have married Samuel's, Mary Ann Silvey. This Samuel was aged 40-49 (i.e., born ca 1791-1800), while his wife was also aged 40-49 (i.e., born ca 1791-1800). Our Samuel was born ca 1790 and his wife, Jane, ca 1789 (according to the 1850 census).

Record #2: In a second 1840 census record, a Samuel SILVEY is on the same page (p. 68) as a John SILVEY (line 5). This Samuel is aged 60-69 (i.e., born ca 1771-178), while his wife was also aged 50-59 (i.e., born ca 1781-1790).
