On 30 July 2022, I messaged most of those that Ancestry indicates I have shared DNA with and who descend from this David Yancy FRANKLIN, to see if they can help me find more information on him.1
David Yancy Franklin appeared in the census of 1853 at Itawamba Co., Mississippi, USA; NOTE: According to the Mississippi State/Territorial censuses, there were David FRANKLINs in Itawamba Co. in at least 1837, 1841, 1853 and 1860. It is not clear when David Yancy actually arrived in MS from AL. It does not seems to be known definitively when or where David Yancy died, but many Ancestry family trees report his death as 1875 in Itawamba Co., MS. None of those trees site sources for that information.
David and all of his children appeared in various census listings in AL in 1850 and all of those entries show that they were all born in AL. This would seem to preclude the 1837 and 1841 MS census entries from being for this David Yancy. By 1860, his wife (Mary Elizabeth SMITH) and three children: Riden Griggsbyhill FRANKLIN, Mary Elizabeth (FRANKLIN) FERGUSON, and Jane (FRANIKLIN) PERDUE were all in Freestone Co., TX. A fourth child, Thomas FRANKLIN, apparently joined the Confederate Army in Texas in 1861, but his whereabouts in 1860 are unknown. The fifth child, Napoleon Bonapart FRANKLIN was in Freestone Co., TX by June 1862, but his whereabouts in 1860 are also unknown.
I don't know what motivated most of the family to move from AL to TX, but clearly it was a group decision since they settled near each other in 1860. It is not impossible that David Yancy separated from his family and was in Itawamba Co. by 1853/60, but it doesn't seem highly probable to me. The name "David FRANKLIN" is so common that the MS David could easily have been another man. Furthermore, the 1853 and 1860 MS state censuses show one male with several women (4 in 1853 and 3 in 1860), but no sons. Since David Yancy's wife and all three of his known daughters were accounted for in TX by 1860, it is even more unlikely. GA Vaut

; N.B.: I have started trying to determine if Abner and Rhoda (CLEVELAND) FRANKLIN had a daughter named Frances "Fanny". Ancestry says my mother has DNA matches with two descendants of the FRANKLIN line who may be descended from Abner through a daughter named Fanny (see attached image of chart). Both of these matches depend on Fanny having married a Mr. HILL and having a daughter named Rhydonia Allie HILL who m. a Taylor Morris COOK.
Several family trees show a Frances "Fanny" FRANKLIN as a dau. of Abener and Rhoda. Some trees have this Fanny m. a Rydon Grigsby HILL and having children. This is interesting in two ways (with allowances for reasonable spellings differences):
According to the 1850 census, the Francis [sic] who m. R. G. HILL, was born in Georgia ca 1802. I have found speculative birth info for Fanny of 1797 in VA in many family trees, but no sources for this data. So this raises the question of whether Abner was in GA ca 1802 when Francis was born. We have little other information to go on. Some trees say Abner died in NC while others say AL (1828). His wife is said to have died in NC in 1820. His son, Jesse is said to have been born in TN (in 1810). Could Abner have had children in VA before 1797, then be in GA in 1802, TN in 1810 and then in NC by 1820?
The 1850 census listing for Francis and R. G. HILL was in Sabine Co., LA. Fanny FRANKLIN's brother David Yancy had moved to Alabama by the mid-1820's, while her brother Jesse, was in AL by 1830 and had moved to MS by 1838. The census further shows that all three of Francis and R. G.'s children were born in Alabama between ca 1834 and ca 1842. However, I haven't found an 1840 census listing for an R. G. Hill in Alabama so far.

(n.b., dates of birth aprox., based on listed ages)
In the 1860 census, Rhydonia Allie (HILL) COOK and her family are next door to an older Frances HILL (55) and a younger Franklin A. HILL (18). the are presumably the mother and brother of Rhydonia. This older Frances is shown as born in SC and Franklin in AL. This increases the likelyhood that Rhydonia Allie (HILL) COOK was the daughter of Frances HILL, and that the older Frances's maiden name may have been FRANKLIN as she gave her son that name (probably the "A. F. FRANKLIN" in the 1850 census). The prbability of a family connection between Rhydonia Allie (HILL) COOK and Franklin A. HILL (and thus to Frances HILL, his mother) is strengthened by the fact that Franklin A. is in Rhydonia's household in the 1870 census.
As for Frances "Fanny" FRANKLIN's date and place of birth, we have three possible dates and three possible places of birth (I have no great faith in the accuracy of either recorded birth dates or places in censuses):
Two other pieces of evidence are that in the 1880 and 1900 censuses, Rhydonia reported that her mother was born in SC.
Conclusion: I have decided to place a Frances "Fanny" Franklin (who m. a Rydon Grigsby HILL) as a possible dau. of Abner and Rhoda for now, as I continue to evaluate the information I find on her. I have also assigned Rhydon Grigsby and Frances "Fanny" (FRANKLIN) HILL a daughter named Rhydonia (HILL) COOK. GA Vaut.6,7,8,9,10,11,12
