My reference for this information was the book "The Story of Gabriel and Marie Hersent Maupin by Dorothy Maupin Shaffett" and information found on the internet.
I have numbered them I, II, III and IV in order to keep them straight. In those days, I don't think they used the designation. The nicknames were used in order for people to keep them straight because they lived in the same area.
Gabriel and Marie had 5 children who immigrated with them to the United States.
One son was
- Daniel "Old Daniel" Maupin I – Memorial # 68016810 (Maintained by Jan Hensley)
b. Mar 25 1700 - England (at a stop on the voyage to United States)
d. Oct 9 1788 - Albemarle County, Virginia
Daniel I Son - Daniel "Cuff" Maupin II - Memorial #??????
1727 – 1803
Daniel II Son - Daniel "Tough Daniel" Maupin III – Memorial # 32161947 (Maintained by Richard Parker)
b. Dec 6 1760 - Albemarle County, Virginia
d. Aug 29 1832 – Madison County, Kentucky
They had 6 children.
Daniel III Son - Daniel C. "King" Maupin IV – Memorial # 47837200 (Maintained by Charles Wilton)
Mother – Margaret "Peggy" Mc Williams
b. Jan 15 1811 – Madison County, Kentucky
d. Jan 16 1865 – Madison County, Kentucky
I hope this information clears up all the confusion. In order to keep the confusion down to a manageable level, I think (if everyone is willing) to change the names as shown. This will help all future researchers to keep their ancestors straight.
I am going to start work on all their children and try to have them all linked together.
If anyone has any additional information I would appreciate your sharing.
I would appreciate a reply to this message so I know where we stand on these changes.
Thanks very much.
My line is from Jesse G. Maupin & Lucy Jones – Daniel "Old Daniel's" son.
