; I can send you copies of the wills and some other things pertaining to the McGinnis clan. Would it be easier if I sent them via postal? I am in the process of hooking up a different scanner. It will do legal size documents. We are leaving for our grandson's high school graduation and will not be back until after Sept 26.
William McGinnis was the s/o John Jr. and Mary "Polly" McGinnis. I strongly suspect that Polly might be related as cousin or 2nd cousin to John Jr, but just can't get there. These lines tended to "blend" together. The McGinnis clan named their children the same, bringing confusion. I also have the census info with the McGinnis clan. The McGinnis clan were very large land owners at one time. The line comes from Thomas McGinnis of Scotland. Thomas and John Jr. were the children of John Sr. and Margaret Unk. McGinnis. Thomas' will was recorded in 1825. I have noticed that some people at rootsweb have him as being in Rev. War and dying in 1835 (I think that is what I remember). I will have to check on those again. Greenbury McGinnis (brother), Francis Neff, John Richardson, and Samuel L. Irvine were witness to the will. John McGinnis Sr. also had a son, Thomas. John Sr.'s will was recorded in 1816. It was written in 1814.I think there is a lot of confusion over John Sr. and Jr.---and Thomas who married Nancy Tenly. I will see if I can connect the surname of Tenly to the Neff. Richardson, and Irvine names in the will of Thomas. Also, I will look over a lot of papers I have when I get back from our trip. I may find some Tenly names in them. It really does appear that the Nancy, in the Thomas McGinnis will I have, was Nancy Tenly. I have marriages and children--and land info on just about all the McGinnis family. In any event, I think Thomas (m. Nancy Tenly) would be too young for Rev. War. I can't remember dates in my head. I will have to check on him.
I will save your e-mail and get back with you. Hope you can be patient. Gads, I have never heard from anyone in West Africa before. I did have a contact from a lady in Belgium about two years ago.

William McGinnis was born in 1750 at Virginia, USA.1 He married Susannah Cleland circa 1770.5,1
William McGinnis died on 5 November 1786 at Mason Co., Kentucky, USA; per Meginness [1891:215]: "Here william was killed by the Indians."1,3
;
He lived Kenton Station, which was renamed Washington in August 1786. The Virginia Assembly was petitioned to recognize Washington and establish a new county. William was a signor of both petitions.
In late 1786 Indians were a substantial problem, they were "prowling around" and came one December night upon William McGinnis' cabin where he had recently moved outside the fort. The Indians shot and killed him while he was standing in his own doorway.

McGinnis immigrated between 1778 and 1779 to Harrodsburg, Mercer Co., Kentucky, USA; per Meginness [1891:215]: "The four brothers emigrated to Mercer County, Kentucky, in 1778 or 1779, and settled at harrod's Station, now Harrodsburg."3 John McGinnis Sr. immigrated between 1778 and 1779 to Harrodsburg, Mercer Co., Kentucky, USA; "The four bothers emigrated to Mercer County, Kentucky, in 1778 or 1779, and settled at Harrd's Station, now Harrodburg."7

December 4th 1839
Dear Sir I arrived at Louisville on the tenth day after I left your hospital roof and found my Brother and family well and in two more days ride I got home and found my family in common health I had excellent weather on my return as far as Louisville where I had a dreadful stormy day with a severe freeze. I have suffered severely with the rumatism on my return and since at home find mony matters much deranged and consequently every description of property lower than when I left home. My wife and family join in sending their compliments to you and family in particular and to all our relatives in general. You will find enclosed a copy of the will you desired. Nothing at present but remain yours(?)
