     Mr. David Leon Mount, age 77, of Hanover, Indiana, David entered this life on June 18, 1941 in Linton, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late, Dr. Mathias S. and Eleanor Coppock Mount. He was raised most of his life in Bloomfield, Indiana except for a year his family spent in Colorado Springs while his dad was serving in the United States Army during World War II. He celebrated his second birthday in Colorado Springs. He attended Culver Military Academy Woodcraft Camp from 1951-1953 and then graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1959. While in high school, David was the student manager of Basketball, Cross Country, and the Track Teams. He held membership in the Drama Club, Thespian Society, HI-Y, Latin Club, Choir, Boy's Choir, Pep Club, Boy's State Delegate, Yearbook Staff, and Band where he served as Student Director Jr. and Sr. Year. He also worked during his high school years at the Movie Theater and the Cardinal Inn Restaurant in Bloomfield. David then graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Denver in 1963 and received his Master of Arts from Ball State University in 1968. David did not stop there he continued his graduate work at Indiana University, Purdue University, Western Illinois University, Ball State University and IUPUI. In his college years he was active at the University of Denver with the Marching Band, Concert Band, and was Manager of the Marching and Concert Bands, He held membership in the Kappa, Kappa Psi Music Fraternity, University Chapel Committee, Methodist Student Foundation, DU Student Colorado Education Association, Religious Council, Skyline Hall Council, Vice President of the Men's Inter Hall Council, Chairman of the Men's Hall Judicial Committee, Overall Student Chairman of New Student Orientation for 61/62, Member of the University Acapella Choir, Leadership Conference Senior Pioneer, and Member of the Hotel and Restaurant Society. After college her worked the summer of 1960 as director of the Bloomfield United Methodist Church Children's Choir, 1961-1970 at the Woodcraft Camp Culver Military Academy, 1961-1962 Aide to Division Commander of the Drum and Bugle Corps serving as drum instructor and military officer, 1962 served as counselor for a section of 14 boys and in 1963 founded the Woodcraft Band. In 1963 thru 1968 David served as assistant music director of the Drum and Bugle Corps, Counselor of Cabin, Drum Instructor, Coordinator of Indian Lore Department and Band Director. In 1966 the Official Band along with the Navy Band at Culver played for the visit of President Johnson to the Indiana Sesquicentennial in Indianapolis. 1969-1970 he was the Department Chairman for the Music Department, Director of Drum and Bugle Corps, Choir Director, and Band Director. In 1971 David went on an around the World tour of Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Thailand, Nepal, India, Lebanon, Iran, Kuwait, Iraq, Egypt, Cypress, Israel and Greece. In 1972 he continued going to Europe to visit Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Holland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France and England. On June 17, 1973 David was united in marriage to Ella Louise Overman at the Bloomfield United Methodist Church. From 1974-1980 he served as the Director for the Southwestern Recreation Association and worked with Summer school at Ball State. 1982-1994- he served as Division Commander and Music Director of Woodcraft Drum and Bugle Corps of Culver Military Academy and coordinator of Indiana Lore Department. In 1987 he was the Overall Chairman of the 75th Anniversary Celebration of Woodcraft Camp and received the Highest Award, the Beaver Gold C at the Woodcraft Camp and in 1988 became the Chairman of the Fine Arts Department. 1995-1998 he served as Boy's Director of Woodcraft Camp which consisted of 420 students and 49 staff members. 1999--2000 he served as Assistant Director of Total Operations and was responsible of 660 students and 120 staff members. During his teaching years he started in 1964 as the History teacher at Southwestern High School and then from 1964-1966 as the Sixth grade teacher at Bloomfield Elementary. In 1966-1967 served as the History teacher again at Southwestern. From 1968-1975 he served as the History teacher at Southwestern and then began as the Counselor at the Southwestern Junior-Senior High School until 1993. In the Fall of 1993 he began serving as the History and Social Studies teacher for Southwestern. In 1996 to June 1, 1999 he served as Counselor as well as the Psychology and Social Studies teacher and then retired. He then decided he wanted something to do in 2001 and worked at McDonald's in Hanover enjoying visiting with many of his past students and neighbors. During his teaching years he held many responsibilities with organizations and sponsorships including, Student Council, Harvey Wiley Chapter of the National Honor Society, Drama Club and was director of Southwestern's first musical, Thespian Society, Choir Director 1968-1975, Festival Choir, Cadet Teachers, Intramural, Junior Class Sponsor, Senior Class Sponsor, kept he scoreboards for the Girls and Boys JV and Varsity Basketball games and tournaments, served as an ISHAA Volleyball Official for 12 years and four years for sectionals, ISHAA Swim Official, Charted the Cross Country Meets, Scored the Cross Country Meets, Official Scorer for ORVC Track Meets, Official Announcer for ORVC Track Meets, and served as the Honorary Assistant Band Director from 1966-until his death for Southwestern School Corporation. David was presented the title of "Mr. Southwestern" by Dr. Leahey and the Southwestern School Board, which was one of his many proud accomplishments. David was very active in his churches which included at Bloomfield United Methodist Church with the Adult Choir and Youth Fellowship. In 1960 he restarted the Children's Choir and played the Pipe Organ. He always enjoyed giving the sermon on College Day, he sponsored MYF, and Head Sponsor of Council of Church Youth Group. In 1966 he began attending Hanover United Methodist Church and became a member in 1968. IN 1968 he became a member of HUMC Choir and served until his death. He had served as a Lay Leader and coordinated the church relief effort from the 1974 Tornado serving the needs of over 2000 people who were affected by the Tornado that struck Hanover and Madison on April 3rd. He served as Chairman of the Pastoral - Parish Committee, member of the Finance Committee, Chairman of the Official Board, Member of the Council of Ministries, Choir Member and Director, Member of the Worship Committee, Member of the Family Life Committee, Co-Chairman of the Council of Ministries, Chairman of the Pipe Organ Committee, Sub Organist, Bell Choir Member, Public Relations Chairman, Outreach Committee Member, Nominating Committee Member, Member of the Hanover - Presbyterian -Methodist Education Foundation, Lay Minister to the 2004 Annual Conference, Member of the Finance Committee, and Member of the Administration Council. He belonged to many organizations including, the Southwestern Classroom Teachers Association and had served as Treasurer, Vice President, and President, Indiana State Teachers Association, Nation Education Association, Indiana Council of Social Studies Teachers, National Counselors Association, Indiana Counselors Association and served on the State Board of Directors for three years and served as the District President, Member of the Hanover Optimist Club and had served as the Vice President, Culver Alumni Association, Indiana Retired Teachers Association, Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association and had served as President, Hanover Arts Council and had served as President, had served on the Committee for the Creation of the Central Ohio Valley Arts Network, the Southwestern Band Boosters, and past Treasurer of the Madison Performing Arts Foundation. Mr. Mount will long be remembered for the support and love of the many students of the Southwestern School Corporation. He was dedicated to helping preserve the loved of music in students, community and honoring those traditions. David died on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at 9:21 PM at the Norton Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.

     David will be missed by his loving wife of 45 years, Ella Louise Overman Mount of Hanover; his sister, Luanna Goetz of Fort Worth, Texas; his brother, Dr. James Mount of Bedford, Indiana; six foster sons, Mike Hayden of Los Angeles, California, Charles Troutman of Clarksville, Indiana, Marvin Stewart of Seymour, Indiana, Bill Martinez of Waikiki, Hawaii, David Stoops of St. Louis, Missouri, Jeff Tripp of Hanover, Indiana; his brother in law, William Estel Overman of Bloomington, Indiana; several nieces, nephews and other relatives; several foster grandchildren and foster great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Mathias S. Mount, died November 12, 1988, his mother, Eleanor Harriet Coppock Mount, died September 6, 1991, his foster grandson, Robert Martinez, died August 2003, his father in law, Lt. Patrick Henry Overman, died January 5, 1944, his mother in law, Myrtle Edith Meyers Overman, died October 31, 1983, his brother in law, Carleton Wayne Overman, died December 14, 2004, and his sisters in law, Artie Orlena Overman Chambers, died November 21, 2015, Patricia Overman died in 2012.
FUNERAL CEREMONY
     Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, August 5, 2018, at 3:00 p.m., by at the Hanover United Methodist Church, 220 East LaGrange Road in Hanover, Indiana. Interment: Grandview Cemetery (Bloomfield Cemetery) in Bloomfield, Indiana.
VISITATION
     Friends may call Saturday from 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Southwestern High School Gymnasium, 167 South Main Cross Street in Hanover, Indiana and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the Hanover United Methodist Church, 220 East LaGrange Road in Hanover, Indiana.
