Parker is a young man who has attained exceptional prominence in educational circles. Although only twenty-three years of age he is now principal of the Armstrong Academy and has done much to improve this school and promote its efficiency. He was born in Towson county, in the Choctaw nation, in 1878, and is a son of J. C. Parker, a farmer and stock-raiser. Although reared on his father's farm Gave E. Parker has spent the greater part of his life in the schoolroom as a student and teacher. After acquiring his preliminary education, in 1894 he entered the Henry Kendall College of Muskogee, Indian Territory, and was the graduated in the class of 1899, with the honors of his class, on the completion of the five years course. With a view of entering the teacher's profession eh studied for one session in Kansas State Normal, at Emporia. He was then appointed principal of Spencer Academy, at Nelson, Indian Territory, for the school year of 1899 and 1900, and in September of the latter year he became principal of Armstrong Academy, the boys' school of the Choctaw nation. This is an old and famous institution supported by the Choctaw government, and in the position Professor Parker is giving entire satisfaction. The academy is pleasantly situated in the county twelve miles from Caddo, and is a well-equipped school, doing and excellent work for the boys of the nation along the line of intellectual training. Professor Parker is an educator of high ability, thoroughly interested and conscientious in his efforts to make Armstrong an institution of the highest grade. He sets about his work with enthusiasm and is now thoroughly conversant with every department and detail of the work of the school.
Professor Parker finds in his wife an able assistant. He married Miss Beth George, a daughter of John B. and Louisa (Benedict) George, natives of Michigan, who resided in Topeka, Kansas, for several years and are now residents of California. Mrs. Parker acquired her preliminary education in the public schools of Topeka and subsequently entered the Washburn College at that place. Subsequently she spent three years as a student in Henry Kendall College, at Muskogee, Indian Territory, where she was graduated in 1899, being a classmate of her husband, to who she was married on Christmas day of 1900. During the year 1899 and 1900 she was one of the teachers in Spencer Academy near Nelson. She is a very accomplished lady of broad culture and intelligence and is a leader in social circles. her splendid womanly qualities have market influence over the boys of the school and to her husband she is indeed a faithful and competent helpmeet. Professor Parker's nobility of character and his adherence to the highest ideals win for him distinction in the educational world."2

; Commemorative Biographical Record of Central Pennsylvania 1898 J. H. Beers & Co. Page 452 G. Dorsey Green, of Patton Township, Centre County, has descendedfrom a family prominent in civil and military affairs of the commonwealth. In 1791-2 Colonel Samuel Miles and Colonel John Patton, two officersof the Revoluntionary War, erected Centre Furnace, in what is now BoggsTownship, Centre County, which, with a store at that point, was inoperation under the name of Miles, Patton & Miles as early as May 2,1792, the first blast furnace erected in the county. Colonel Patton diedin 1802, and Colonel Miles, who was a resident of Montgomery County, andwhose interest were represented by his sons, Joseph and John, residentsof Centre County, died in 1805. The furnace was blown out in 1809, andlaid idle until about 1825, when Joseph Green, Sr., and Joseph Milesstarted it again. Colonel Miles had, in 1792 purchased large tracts ofland on Spring and Bald Eagle Creek, and he, with his sons, laid outMilesburg and established the Milesburg Iron Works in 1797, which, for atime, were carried on in connection with the Centre Furnace. After JosephGreen, Sr., came in 1825, the firm name was Joseph Miles & Co. John Milesdied in 1829. In 1832 Joseph Miles sold his interest to General JamesIrvin, and until 1836 James Irvin & Co. conducted the business. JosephGreen, Sr., then retired, and was succeeded by General Huston. In the Revolutionary War General Miles was Colonel of one of the riflebattalions, and was taken prisoner at Long Island in 1776. He wassubsequently judge of the Court of Errors and Appeals, and Mayor ofPhiladelphia. Joseph Green, Sr., his nephew, was a carpenter, and camefrom Chester County with Joseph and John Miles to assist in building theIron Works, and, as stated above, later became a partner. He built andlived in a house that stood upon a lot occupied in 1882 by Harry Levisresidence; the kitchen, constructed of stone, was then still standing. In1836 he moved to Milesburg, and became the first postmaster at thatplace. His wife Hannah (Griffith), was also from Chester County, Penn.,and their children were: Captain William G., of the U.S.A. (died in 1815at Lexington, KY); General Samuel Miles; Esther, married to JosephButler; Joseph; Eliza, married to H. L. McMinn; and Hannah, married toJohn Irvin, Jr. Of this family, General Samuel Miles Green was the father of G.Dorsey Green. The General was born at the Iron Works near Milesburg,April 13, 1797. He read law with Hon. John Blanchard, and was admitted tothe Bar in 1821, contempory with the late Hon. A. S. Wilson and John G.Miles. Shortly afterward he was appointed deputy attorney-general forClearfield County, and subsequently removed to Meadville, Penn., where heremained five years, during which time he was employed by theattorney-general in the prosecution of some important criminal cases, inwhich he acquitted himself with great credit. He retired from the Bar in1834, became the manager of the Centre County Iron Works, and in 1836 heremoved to Barre Forge, on the Little Juniata, in Huntingdon County, where he was extensively engaged in the manufacture of iron until 1874,when he returned to his native county, and passed the evening of his lifeon a farm on Buffalo Run, with his son, G. Dorsey, dying Dec. 21, 1878 inthe eighty-fourth year of his age. He was a good type of the old-schoolgentleman, with a hearty and sincere manner. Carrying the weight ofalmost an additional span to the years of man's allotted life, he stooderect as a boy of twenty, and retained to a remarkable degree the manlystrength and vigor of early life, worthy his Revolutionary ancestry. While a resident of Huntingdon county he was commissioned aBrigadier-General of Militia by Gov. Porter. General Green was a verygenial and kind-hearted gentleman, beloved by all. In politics he wasoriginally a Whig, later a Republican. He married Rachel E., daughter of Greenberry and Elizabeth(Bartholomew) Dorsey, of Philadelphia. Rachel E. Dorsey was born at BarreForge, and there died. The children of General and his wife were: G.Dorsey, Hannah E. and Joseph A. Green. Greenberry Dorsey and EdwardBartholomew (the father of Elizabeth) erected Barre Forge on the LittleJuniata in 1790. G. Dorsey Green was born at Centre Furnace, March 13, 1832. Heattended the Academy at Lewisburg, and subsequently entered college atLawrenceville, N. J. from which institution he was graduated at the ageof eighteen years. He afterward was in the employ of ths father andGeneral Irvin, the latter's associate in business at Barre Iron Works, first as Clerk, then as Storekeeper, and later as Manager. In 1856 hebecame proprietor of the works, and until 1874 was most extensively andsuccessfully engaged in the manufacture of iron. From his works went outthe blooms from which the wire was made that was used in the constructionof the suspension bridge across the river at Niagara Falls, also the ironwork in the bridge across the Allegheny River at Pittsburg came from theBarre Works. The works made money rapidly; but the proprietor was heavilycaught in the failure of Jay Cooke, after which he sold the plant andretired to a beautiful farm of about 400 acres of land on Buffalo run, near Bellefonte, where he has since made his home and followed farming. Mr. Green in his active business life, and in his earlier career, had apportunities not afforded to many young men. In 1860 it was hisprivilege to attend the National Republican Convention at Chicago, atwhich President Lincoln was nominated. His brother was a delegate to thatconvention, and he accompanied him to the rank of Colonel, a title, however, he was too modest to assume. In politics he is a Republican. Heis identified with the Presbyterian Church, and for years wassuperintendent of the sabbath-school. He is one of the highly esteemedcitizens in the community in which he resides, and on of the substantialmen of Centre County. Mr. Green was united in marriage with Miss Mary Gregg, a daughter ofMatthew Gregg, of Centre County, and thier children are: Ella Gregg, nowthe wife of W. E. Gray, a lawyer of Bellefonte; Samuel Miles, in theemploy of a railroad company in California; Elizabeth Dorsey, unmarried;Allen McGregor, a resident of California; and George Dorsey, nowattending medical lectures at the university of Pennsylvania (hegraduated from the State College in 1896, taking the class honors.)1
