'Colonial Families of the United States of America, Volume II' by George Norbury Mackenzie, states: Richard Williams b. at Monocacy, Maryland, in 1726, d. 6th of 5th month, 1781, at New Garden, North Carolina. He and his wife removed about the year 1752, with theirtwo oldest children to what is now Guilford Co., North Carolina, but which wasthen a wilderness. He was the first Quaker settler, and one of the earliest settlers in that county. He gave the land on which the 'New Garden Meeting House' stands, and timber tracts. The Battle of Guilford Court House, the last battle of the Revolution, was fought near by, and Richard Williams' house was occupied by the wounded officers. The smallpox breaking out among them, Richard williams caught it and died. Fairfax is located in Blue Ridge Mountains.
