      ; John was a 'gunsmith'. John L. Bonham enlisted in Company B. 135th Regiment, PennsylvaniaVolunteers at Brookville, PA on August 1, 1862, for a period of ninemonths. He was 41 years old; 5ft, 10 1/2 inches tall, dark complexioned,dark hair and blue eyes. Because of disability, Richard J. Espy,commanding officer, signed his discharge papers on November 18, 1862, andhe was discharged on November 19, 1862 at Camp Capitol Hill, Georgetown,Washington, D.C. Benjamin F. Bonham, John's son, ran away from home andenlisted at the same time and place. He died on April 19, 1863 fromTyphoid fever in the Regimental Hospital near Belle Plain, Virginia, andis buried there. Both enlisted for nine months, and received abounty of$25. John L. bonhamn's third wife was Lillian Zimmerman, a widow withthree daughters. Bonham but have not confirmed this conclusively. John's daaughter Margarette
was my grandmother. He died at her home in 1903. John was only married
twice; first to Delilah Brown, they had 9 children and then to Elizabeth
Green, widow of Lewis Zimmerman. John and Elizabeth had 2 daughters. Lillie
Zimmerman was Elizabeth's daughter by her first husband, not his wife.
My reasons for writing you are two-fold; so that you may correct the
entry on World-Connect and on the chance that you can confirm John's
descendancy from Andrew Bonham. Please respond. I have documentation if you
require it.

John's 2nd wife was Elizabeth J Green (my ggrandmother). She was the widow of Lewis Unger
Zimmerman and had 3 children, William, Charles and Lillie.

Margaret Isabelle b 20 Jul 1877 d 13 Aug 1855 (my grandmother)

John died in Olean, NY on 20 Apr 1903. His wife, Elizabeth died 3 Jun 1906. They are both buried in
Kersey Pa.

John was only married twice. This information comes from the Zimmerman Green family Bible. I have
copies of it all as well as their obituaries from the newspaper. I have pictures of them as well. I am
interested in how you descend from John L. Please let me know.

Margaret use to live in the country in Lake Edward Township, in Crow Wing County.This is where I went to help split firewood with Skee and Elton. Margaret worked at home doing laundry for others, making quilts, and gardening. In latter years Margaret moved to a senior citizen appartment building in Pequot Lakes, MN., and then to a Nursing Home in Brainard, MN., and last to a Nursing Home in New Brighton, MN., near her son Raymond. There were two funeral services for Margaret, the first being at the Holcomb-Henry-Boom North Chapel in Shoreview, MN, on Tuesday, February 25th, 1997, 11 p.m., (organist, Marjorie Douse, Soloist Charles Green) and the second being in Brainard, MN., at the Kingdom Hall Of Jehovah's Witness, on Wednesday, February 26th, 1997, 2 p.m., officiated by Rev. Bruce Christie, and Mr. Roger Blomberg, Minister, respectively. Pallbearers at the Brainard service were Elton Green, Timothy Strom, Clarence Harrington, Jr., Lloyd Green, Robert Strom, and Bruce Pound. Interment was at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Brainard, MN.¹

From 1942 to 1943 lived in Kansas City,Missouri In 1943 moved to Charles City, Iowa and resided there until his death. OCCUPATION: taught at University of Kansas City for 1 year. Researchchemist at Salsbury Laboratories in poultry pharmaceuticals until retired at age65 yrs in 1977. BURIAL: cremated and his ashes scattered on Lilac Hill at CarletonCollege, Northfield, Minnesota.¹
