He was taken as a prisoner to Galich in 1203 with his brother when their father was expelled from Kiev by Roman Mstislavich Prince of Galich and Volynia but released after the intervention of Vsevolod III Prince of Vladimir[570]. Prince of Smolensk 1212-1219. He succeeded in 1218 as VLADIMIR Grand Prince of Kiev. His rule was challenged by Mikhail Vsevolodich who, allied with the Kuman, attacked Kiev. Vladimir was captured, though released on payment of a ransom, and replaced by Mikhail in 1237 as Grand Prince of Kiev[571]. 1238-1239. m ---. The name of Vladimir´s wife is not known."
