DEATH OF MRS.HART ENDED A FULL LIFE
The death of Mrs. Lou Ella Hart, Thursday, December 14, brought to a close a full active life. Mrs. Hart was of a retiring nature but enjoyed her friends, her home and her church work. She was active in the organizations of the Methodist Church, The Loyal Esthers and the W. S. C. S. until her health failed. Mrs. Hart was a member of Iris Chapter, O. E. S. She was a born homemaker, a gracious hostess, did fine needle work and was ever improving her mind by reading. She was the happiest when doing for others. In her younger years, the Seneca woman enjoyed sports and won a trophy for horsemanship at a Franklin County Fair in Missouri, and her girlhood was spent in that locality. She was married there more than 60 years ago to John Edward Hart. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Henry county. To this union was born one son, Gene, Seneca, who survives. Mr. Hart died March 2, 1939, and since his death Mrs. Hart had failed, the last year was confined to her home most of the time. She was taken to The Seneca Hospital two weeks and a day previous her death.
Mr. and Mrs. Hart lived in Arma, Kansas, five years and moved to Seneca in 1929. Besides her son, Mrs. Hart is survived by a sister, Mrs Creth McDonald, St. Louis, Mo., and a brother, Eugene Payne, Loveland, Texas, who are in poor health and unable to come to Seneca for the funeral.
The service was at 2:30 Sunday afternoon at the home and was conducted by Rev. S. M. Finch, Mrs. John Kongs, Mrs. H. P. Gray, Mrs. Martha Haize and Miss Irene Riffer sang favorite hymns. Interment was made in the family lot in the city cemetery. Pallbearers were Dr. J. L. Wheatley, H. C. Sweetland, W. S. Bennett, Herbert J. Carpenter, John McGreevy and Roy Sheeley.

COURIER TRIBUNE, Seneca, Kansas, Monday, July 13, 1953. Page 1 - GENE HART DIED YESTERDAY
Service Will Be at 2:30 Tuesday Afternoon at Seneca Methodist Church.
Gene Hart of Seneca, one of the most widely known men of Nemaha county, died yesterday morning at the age of 66.
The funeral service will be held tomorrow, Tuesday afternoon, at 2:30 at the Methodist church, Seneca, and burial will be at the Seneca cemetery.
Gene was born in Henry County, Missouri, on October 17, 1886. He came to Nemaha county in 1929, and for some years was the Ford dealer of Seneca. He was later elected treasurer of Nemaha county, serving two terms by election, with additional service in the office as deputy.
He was a stockholder and vice-president of the National Bank of Seneca at the time of his death; and secretary of the Seneca Chamber of Commerce.
In fact, as the paper makes a brief resume of his life this morning, it appeared a number of public services might be unintentionally overlooked. The picture that accompanies this article, for instance, was one taken when he was city councilman some years ago.
Gene is survived by his wife, Marie, to whom he was married in 1939 in Seneca. His father and mother were John E. and Luella Hart, now both deceased, for whom he made a home here for a number of years.
The public will remember Gene as a man who looked after the duties of business and public affairs with a concern for each individual. He will be remembered for his good humor; as a hearty type of public figure, a man who could be called on to be the master of ceremonies of a public occasion or to represent Santa Claus and handle the matter with proportion.
Those were some of the outward characteristics of his life. There was a deeper vein many did not know. His honesty ran clear to the core, and he never by passed his obligations. He had a fine devotion to his parents, his wife and family; he had no children but Larry and Mary Lou Carpenter are going to miss one of the finest uncles that youngsters ever had.
Gene had not been very well for a year or two. He had diabetes and may had also suffered a light stroke. Last Monday he was in the Courier office on Chamber of Commerce business and said offhandedly that he had been having short spells when his eyes would go back on him, had that he had trouble coordinating his vision and reach for objects. He said he would probably have to go into the hospital for a checkup. While Gene did not want to worry anyone, and it is to be doubted he let medical advice worry him too much, he was gotten into the Missouri Methodist hospital at St. Joseph on Wednesday. His condition climaxed in a stroke Thursday morning and his condition was critical from that time. His death was at 9:00 yesterday morning.
Gene's memberships included the Methodist church and the Seneca Rotary Club. The Thornburg Funeral Home is making arrangements for the service tomorrow, and word this morning was that both Rev. Gene Taylor, who is conducting a church youth camp at Topeka, and Rev. Steve Parker, former pastor, who is now at Robinson, would be here to take part in the service.
