The newpaper, Missouri Argus, dated 1 Mar 1838 reports: Tribute paid to the memory of Henry Chiles, Esq., by member of the Jackson County, Mo. democrats during a meeting 5 Feb 1838. 'Resolved that we pay a like tribute of repect to one much esteemed friend and neighbor Henry Chiles Esquire, who unfortunately fell in Florida, but who still ives in the bosom and recollection of many friends.' In the Battle of Lake Okeechobee the regiment took the field with 800 men and lost 649. James Chiles was wounded."4
