"Elizabeth Dabney was born to George Dabney I and Elizabeth (___) Dabney about November 11, 1698, in King and Queen County, later King William County, Virginia.
"According to W. P. Anderson’s Anderson Family Records, she is believed to have married Matthew Anderson, a son of Robert Anderson II of New Kent County. They had one son named George, who was mentioned in his grandfather George Dabney I’s will in 1729.
"Matthew Anderson was living in St. Paul’s Parish in Hanover county in 1731, 1735, 1739, and 1743, when he participated in the processioning of his neighbors’ lands. On December 4, 1733, Matthew Anderson, merchant, received 1126 acres from James Robertson and on the same day sold it to Henry Power of James City County. The rapid turnover of the property suggests that Matthew may have received the land as payment for a debt. He was also the grantee of a deed from Esther Penick in October, 1735.
"He represented Hanover in the House of Burgesses from 1732 to 1734. He appears to have moved to neighboring New Kent County before 1747, when he was appointed a vestryman in St. Peter’s Parish. In 1750, he was elected churchwarden, but in 1751 resigned because he planned to move out of the county. It is likely that he moved to Albemarle County, where his only child, George, was living. Sarah Dabney was born circa 1704 at King William Co., Virginia, USA.1 She married William “Langaloo” Winston, son of Isaac Winston Sr. and Sarah Dabney, circa 1730

He married Sarah Dabney, a daughter of George Dabney I about 1730. They had three children: Elizabeth Louise, Edmund, and Mary Ann.
He was a lieutenant in the militia in the French and Indian War and led his troops into Indian country. He had a high reputation as an orator and one traditional family report described how he encountered a group of soldiers disaffected by the hardships of their service in the wilderness and used his eloquence to persuade and inspire them to renew their efforts.
He was appointed a Justice of the Peace in Hanover County by the Council in 1737, 1741, 1744, and 1752. He was appointed sheriff by the Governor in 1746. In May and November, 1743, he and William Burrus were authorized by the Council to claim two patents of 5,000 acres each in Brunswick County on the Stocken and Dan Rivers in Brunswick County. These patent authorizations do not appear to have been carried into effect because they cannot be found in the Land Office Grants index at the Library of Virginia or in the Cavaliers and Pioneers abstracts. There are three listings of a William Winston in the Hanover County Quit Rent Rolls for 1753, 1762, and 1763 with 1076 acres, 441 acres, and 750 acres, respectively.
He was sometimes called “Langaloo,” which has been reported to be a corruption of the name of his plantation, derived from a locale in Wales.
He was the William Winston, son and heir of the deceased Sarah (Dabney) Winston, who transferred the tract she patented in 1701 to his sister Lucy’s husband, Cornelius Dabney of King William County in 1732. At the time of the deed, he was “of King and Queen County.”
As a brother of Sarah (Winston) Syme Henry, he was an uncle of Patrick Henry and as a brother of Lucy (Winston)Dabney Coles, he was a great uncle of Dolley/Dolly Madison. He died after 1763, when he was listed in the Quit Rent Rolls. [2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9]

"Sarah Dabney was born to George Dabney I and Elizabeth (Eliza) his wife circa 1704 in King William County, Virginia.
"She married William Winston about 1730. He was born about 1710/11 to Capt. Isaac and Sarah (Dabney) Winston of Hanover County. He was sometimes called “Langaloo Billy” after the farm where he was born, called Llangollau from a locale in Wales near the place of the Winstons’ origin. They had three children: Elizabeth Louise, Edmund, and Mary Ann.
"William was a lieutenant in the militia in the French and Indian War and led his troops into Indian country. He had a high reputation as an orator and one traditional family report described how he encountered a group of soldiers disaffected by the hardships of their service in the wilderness and used his eloquence to persuade and inspire them to renew their efforts.
"He was appointed a Justice of the Peace in Hanover County by the Council in 1737, 1741, 1744, and 1752. He was appointed sheriff by the Governor in 1746. In May and November, 1743, he and William Burrus were authorized by the Council to claim two patents of 5,000 acres each in Brunswick County on the Stocken and Dan Rivers in Brunswick County. These patent authorizations do not appear to have been carried into effect because they cannot be found in the Land Office Grants index at the Library of Virginia or in the Cavaliers and Pioneers abstracts. There are three listings of a William Winston in the Hanover County Quit Rent Rolls for 1753, 1762, and 1763 with 1076 acres, 441 acres, and 750 acres, respectively.

"Judith Dabney was born to George Dabney I and his wife, Elizabeth in New Kent County (later King William County).
"She married James Young of Henrico County. They had at least one child named Mary, who married Samuel Williamson.
"In 1739, James and two other residents were appointed by the Henrico Parish vestry to be processioners (verifiers of tract boundaries) in the 5th precinct of the county. James obtained a patent for 317 A. in Henrico Co. near his house July 30, 1742. On the same date, he borrowed £340 from Capt. William Mouat, a ship’s captain, and on June 24, 1746, he made a deed of trust to Mouat for the 417 acres on which he lived plus 15 slaves to secure the debt. He subsequently failed to make payments on the debt, and on September 9, 1748, he released the land and slaves to Mouat. Judith’s brothers, George Dabney II and William Dabney of Aldingham purchased the property from Mouat’s attorneys April 25, 1749 and sold it to Darcey Southall September 29, 1750 for £151. In June, 1772, Judith bought a 4 and 6/16ths acre lot on which she was then living in the Shockoe area of Richmond. The absence of James from the deed indicates that he was probably deceased.
"Judith signed her will September 30, 1778. It was recorded March 4, 1783, indicating that she died in late 1782 or early 1783. The will mentioned that by a decree of the General Court November 4, 1771 (for which records no longer exist), she was entitled to dispose of her estate, indicating an earlier court suit possibly involving the separation of her property from the troubled financial affairs of her husband, who may have been deceased. She bequeathed all of her estate to her daughter, Mary Williamson, for life and after her death to Mary’s children. If Mary had no children, the remainder of the estate to be divided among her nephew George Dabney, her niece Mary Walker, and her son-in-law, Samuel Williamson. Samuel and Sarah Day Boone and their children were among the charter members of Boone's Creek Baptist Church.
There may be some confusion between Samuel Boone, son of Squire and Sarah Morgan, and Samuel's son, also named Samuel Boone. In the Revolutionary War Pension Records is a record for Samuel Boone (Pension #S.1168, filed in Kentucky by Samuel Boone). In his first Pension Application Samuel tells that when his father was drafted in Camden, South Carolina, into the Revolutionary War, Samuel's son went as a substitute for his father. His father was again drafted and son Samuel served for his father again. Samuel states in his Pension application that he was born on 21 March 1758 on the Yadkin River in North Carolina. He also says that when his father was drafted the family was living on the Congaree River near Camden, South Carolina. Samuel mentions his four sisters: Elizabeth White, Rebecca Jones, Sarah Montgomery and Mary Bradley. In 1832, when the pension was filed, Sarah lived in Ohio and Mary lived in Missouri. Elizabeth and Rebecca gave affidavits, so they may have been living in Kentucky where Samuel was living. His neighbors who knew him were: William Morton, Captain John Morton, Dennis Bradley, William Berkley, John Hampton, Jesse Fishback and Hubbard Taylor. They could all testify to his Revolutionary War service. William Morton was a clergyman living in Winchester; William Bradley was living also in Clark County. They both subscribed for Samuel Boone. Samuel M. Taylor, Clerk of Clark County Circuit Court certified the testimonies of the two men and the testimony of Samuel Boone on 2 October 1832. On 17 March 1834 Samuel Boone went to Fayette County, Kentucky Court to have his pension increased. He was then a resident of Fayette County. When he filed the first time he was unaware that he should have received credit for his service against the Indians in the Western country, so he did not put the following details into his first application: When he was discharged in South Carolina, he heard that "his uncle Daniel Boone was raising a company in North Carolina to march to Kentucky.” He went to Rowan County where Colonel Boone was raising his company and entered it as a volunteer." On 15 September 1779 they marched on Boonesborough, arriving in October 1779. The next day after his arrival "he was ordered to Bryants, near Lexington" to protect the families there. His unit was commanded by William Hays. They immediately constructed a station called Bryant's Station, which they completed in the Spring of 1780. In that spring one of the men in the company was killed by Indians, who stole nearly all the horses. Samuel helped erect all the buildings there and remained in the garrison until October 1780, when orders were received by Col. Boone to reinforce Boone' s Station. He remained at Boone's Station until Spring 1781, when he was sent with others under the command of Captain Hays to aid in building canoes for General Clark's army and to convey corn to him at the falls of the Ohio. After he did this he returned to the fort at Boone's Station where he remained defending the fort until April 1782. He was then ordered to Strode's Station by Col. Boone and was under the command of Capt. John Contant at Strode's Station. At the request of Contant he and Andrew Rule volunteered as spies and served for thirty days. He then returned to Boone's Station where he remained until the middle of June. He then served as a spy for thirty days under the command of Capt. James Stevenson. He ranged the country from the Licking River to Big Bone Lick and after the thirty days he returned to the station. On the 2nd of August he was detached under the command of Major John Holder in pursuit of a party of Indians, who had taken two boys named Jones Hoy, son of Major Hoy, and John Calloway, son of Colonel Richard Calloway. They overtook the Indians at the upper Blue Licks and in the battle that happened there they were defeated and returned to Boonesborough. There he remained and in a few days the wounded from the battle of the Lower Blue Licks were brought in and he aided in caring for them. He remained in the garrison until the close of the Revolutionary War in April 1783. He swore that he served in Kentucky for over three years. His statements about his Kentucky service were swore to by Oswald Townsend and Rebecca Jones in open Court in Fayette County, Kentucky, and accepted for an increase in his pension on 7 March 1834. The pension amount was doubled from $44 to $88 and Signed by Harry I. Bodley, Clerk of Circuit Court, Fayette County, Kentucky. I cannot find a death date for this Samuel Boone but one source said about 1840. This entire account may also explain the confusion with the two Rebeccas.

There may be some confusion between Samuel Boone, son of Squire and Sarah Morgan, and Samuel's son, also named Samuel Boone. In the Revolutionary War Pension Records is a record for Samuel Boone (Pension #S.1168, filed in Kentucky by Samuel Boone). In his first Pension Application Samuel tells that when his father was drafted in Camden, South Carolina, into the Revolutionary War, Samuel's son went as a substitute for his father. As a young child, she and her parents and some of her siblings, left Rowan County, North Carolina, during the Indian outbreaks of 1759. They were living in South Carolina, when her brother, Squire Boone, was born in 1760. (The Boone Family, by Ella Hazel A. Spraker) She married William White probably in South Carolina, and they resided close to or with her Boone family in the Camden District on the Congaree River in South Carolina. In 1779, the family of Samuel Boone Sr. left South Carolina to settle in Kentucky. Elizabeth White made an affidavit in Clark County, Kentucky for her brother, Samuel Boone, Jr., when he applied for his military pension on 26September 1832. In her affidavit, she stated that she lived in Madison County, Kentucky, was over 80 years old, and the widow of William White.

Squire Boone was born in South Carolina where his parents had moved to avoid the depredations of the Indians on the western borders of North Carolina where they had formerly lived. There is no further record of Squire up to the time of his enlistment from the Camden District of South Carolina on the Congaree River in 1777. His revolutionary record is as follows: He enlisted June or July 1777 for three months as Sargent under Captain John Cook; Colonel Robert Goodwin, South Carolina. He enlisted June or July 1779 for three months as Sargent under Captains John McChord or Robert McGowan and Colonel John Russell. From 1780 to 1783 he served in Kentucky under Captain William Hayes and was frequently engaged against Indians in defense of the frontier. He also served under General George Rogers Clark in his expeditions against the Piqua towns, and was seriously injured in the Babble of Blue Licks. The record also states that the pensioner was a son of Samuel Boone and a nephew of Daniel and gives considerable data concerning his wife and children.
4. Sarah, born 24 November 1763, South Carolina; died 31 December 1848, Adams County, Ohio; married 13 March 1782, Thomas Brooks (1760-1800)
Thomas Brooks, was a well-known scout and Indian fighter. His family was from Farquier County, Virginia. He went to Kentucky in the early days of its settlement, and with Daniel Boone, Jacob Boone and others laid out the town of Limestone (now Maysville), where he lived until his death. He served three years as a private in the VA Continental Line, for which he received a grant of land. In Mason County, Kentucky there are records of land transfers signed by Thomas Brooks and Sarah Boone Brooks in 1791.

"Bernis" or "Bernice" (Bernard) Brown was the son of Benjamin Thompson Brown and Lucy Ann Richards (1 Feb 1810 - 29 May 1904). He was born on Nov. 4, 1840 in Virginia and died on 1 Jan 1898. He was the grandson of Rev. Bernis Brown and Henrietta Rodes. "B.B. Brown" married Elizabeth Imboden, the daughter of Henry A. Imboden on 8 Feb 1865 in Rockbridge Co., VA.
On the 1850 Albemarle Co., VA census, I found Benja T. Brown, 53; Lucy, 39; Burnis, 9; James, 7; Lucy, 5; Thomas, 3 and Lucian, 1, all VA born.
On the 1860 Charlottesville, Albemarle Co., VA census, I found farmer B. T. Brown, 63 with $16,500 in real estate; female L.A., 50; BB, 19; JR. 17; female LA. 15; Jeff R. 13 and Lucius, 11, all VA born.
On the 1870 Charlottesville, Fredericksville, Albemarle Co., VA census, I found him living next to her mother and siblings: Lucy A. Brown, 60 with $10K in real estate; Lucy Ann. 23 and Lucian, 20 beside her son, farmer B R (or B) Brown, 28; Elizabeth, 26; Isabella, 4; Henry T., 2 and W. P. Richards, 72, at home, all VA born.
I could not find them on the 1880 VA census.
Daughter Virginia B. Brown was born on 15 May 1877 in Albemarle, VA to Bernis B and Elizabeth Brown.
Virginia Blanche Brown, age 32, born in abt 1877 in Albemarle Co., VA, the daughter of B.B. and Elizabeth Brown married widower Marion Otis Lacy, 39, born in Chesterfield Co., VA, son of Sidney and Mary Lacy, on 24 Feb 1909 in Lynchburg, VA. Marion had 3 children by his first marriage on the 1910 Lynchburg, VA census and Virginia had 1 child, that she lost and no more were recorded in the 1920 and 1930 censuses.
"Belle" Brown, age 18, daughter of B.B. and Elizabeth Brown, married John S. Doyle, age 26, son of Jas and Ann Doyle, on 30 Jan 1884 in Botetourt Co., VA.
His wife's obit named him "Bernard B. Brown" and states she had 2 daughters and 1 son, at the time of her death. I've also seen Bernis Benjamin Brown.
His gravestone says: BERNICE B. BROWN, NOV. 4, 1840, JAN. 1, 1898 "Blessed is the man that maketh the Lord his trust."

"Bernis" or "Bernice" (Bernard) Brown was the son of Benjamin Thompson Brown and Lucy Ann Richards (1 Feb 1810 - 29 May 1904). He was born on Nov. 4, 1840 in Virginia and died on 1 Jan 1898. He was the grandson of Rev. Bernis Brown and Henrietta Rodes. "B.B. Brown" married Elizabeth Imboden, the daughter of Henry A. Imboden on 8 Feb 1865 in Rockbridge Co., VA.
On the 1850 Albemarle Co., VA census, I found Benja T. Brown, 53; Lucy, 39; Burnis, 9; James, 7; Lucy, 5; Thomas, 3 and Lucian, 1, all VA born.
On the 1860 Charlottesville, Albemarle Co., VA census, I found farmer B. T. Brown, 63 with $16,500 in real estate; female L.A., 50; BB, 19; JR. 17; female LA. 15; Jeff R. 13 and Lucius, 11, all VA born.
On the 1870 Charlottesville, Fredericksville, Albemarle Co., VA census, I found him living next to her mother and siblings: Lucy A. Brown, 60 with $10K in real estate; Lucy Ann. 23 and Lucian, 20 beside her son, farmer B R (or B) Brown, 28; Elizabeth, 26; Isabella, 4; Henry T., 2 and W. P. Richards, 72, at home, all VA born.
I could not find them on the 1880 VA census.
Daughter Virginia B. Brown was born on 15 May 1877 in Albemarle, VA to Bernis B and Elizabeth Brown.
Virginia Blanche Brown, age 32, born in abt 1877 in Albemarle Co., VA, the daughter of B.B. and Elizabeth Brown married widower Marion Otis Lacy, 39, born in Chesterfield Co., VA, son of Sidney and Mary Lacy, on 24 Feb 1909 in Lynchburg, VA. Marion had 3 children by his first marriage on the 1910 Lynchburg, VA census and Virginia had 1 child, that she lost and no more were recorded in the 1920 and 1930 censuses.
"Belle" Brown, age 18, daughter of B.B. and Elizabeth Brown, married John S. Doyle, age 26, son of Jas and Ann Doyle, on 30 Jan 1884 in Botetourt Co., VA.
His wife's obit named him "Bernard B. Brown" and states she had 2 daughters and 1 son, at the time of her death. I've also seen Bernis Benjamin Brown.
His gravestone says: BERNICE B. BROWN, NOV. 4, 1840, JAN. 1, 1898 "Blessed is the man that maketh the Lord his trust."

The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) has a note on their website saying there is a problem with the lineage and that David Maxwell was the father of Elizabeth Maxwell who was married to Robert Crawford. There are no sons named Thomas. Elizabeth's older sister, Jane Maxwell was married to her husband's uncle Charles Crawford, brother to her father-in-law, Joel Crawford.

Fourthly I give unto Brother Charles my Saddle & Bridle & all my other wearing apparrel.
Fifthly I will that my land in South Carolina be equally divided amongst my four sisters.
Sixthly I will and bequeath unto my mother, Frances Crawford my horse and all my debts due & demands after my Lawful debts are paid.
Seventhly I will & bequeath my gun to my Brother Robert Crawford.

In 1813, he was offered a position as Secretary of War by President James Madison, but turned it down. It was offered to him again in 1815, and he accepted. He served from 1815 to 1816 when he was appointed as Secretary of Treasury by Madison. He served under President Madison and under President James Monroe from 1816 to 1825. He made an unsuccessful bid for President in 1824, but was defeated. Know all men by these presents that I Joseph Vaught of the County of Pulaski, and State of Kentucky, do make and publish this my last Will and Testament.
First. I desire that after my death, that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid out of my estate.
Second. I will and desire that if my wife Mahala Vaught shall survive me, that she take ??? intent in my estate during her natural life, and at ther death the same shall revert to my estate.
Third. I will and bequeath to my son Marion Perkins Vaught, and to my daughter Senelda Jane Vaught the sum of one dollar each, to be paid out of my esate.
Fourth. I will and bequeath the residue of my estate both real and personal to my children and grandshildren, Viz. Mary Bell Lewis and Joseph Vaught, children of Greenup C. Vaught, one share, James Edward Vaught son of Fountain P. Vaught-dec'd one share, and to my sons Milford E., John T(?), Wm H. Oliver Sherman and Roscoe one share each.

I N. L. Barnett, Clerk Pulaski County Court, do certify that the foregoing Instrument of Writing purporting to be the last true will and testamen of Joseph Vaught dec'd, was at th Dec. Term 1893 of the Pulaski County Court proudced in open Court adn proven according to law by the oaths of H. G. Trimble and J. J. Jendricks the two subscribing witness thereto, and the same was adjudged by this Court to be the true las t will and testament of the said Joseph Vaught dec'd, and ordered by the Court to be admitted to record as such ture last will and testatment of Joseph Vaught dec'd. Know all men by these presents that I Joseph Vaught of the County of Pulaski, and State of Kentucky, do make and publish this my last Will and Testament.
First. I desire that after my death, that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid out of my estate.
Second. I will and desire that if my wife Mahala Vaught shall survive me, that she take ??? intent in my estate during her natural life, and at ther death the same shall revert to my estate.
Third. I will and bequeath to my son Marion Perkins Vaught, and to my daughter Senelda Jane Vaught the sum of one dollar each, to be paid out of my esate.
Fourth. I will and bequeath the residue of my estate both real and personal to my children and grandshildren, Viz. Mary Bell Lewis and Joseph Vaught, children of Greenup C.
