Richard LEE, and disproving any evident link to the LEE family of CotonHall, Shropshire. Thorndale's work was extended by Townsend in 2002. One of my original sources for this line, the 7th ed. of Weis (1992), included the link from the Coton Hall LEEs to Co. Richard LEE, but the 8th ed. (2004) deletes the link citing Thomason (2002).

; Per Thompson: "A thorough search of the city’s parish registers and probate documents, as well as a search of the Consistory Court records of Worcester, failed to uncover any information concerning the parentage or occupation of chis John Lees. Moreover, the best account of the armigerous family of Lee of Langley-Coton Hall in co. Salop, does not include anything resembling the family group named in John Lees's will." [16]
[16] The best account of the family of Lee of Langley- Coton Hall is George Morris, "Shropshire Genealogies," 8 vols. (MS., n.d. (a. 1897), Shrewsbury Public Library, Shropshire), l:331- 32; available as FHL micro film 0,504,545 through 0,504,550. Another account is George Grazebrook and John Paul Rylands, eds., The Visitation of Shropshire Taken in the Year 1623, 2 vols. (London: Harleian Society, 1889), 2:318- 20.
The brother Ralph may be the Ralph Lyes whose intestate estate was ordered to be administered by his widow Elizabeth in Nov. 1641, with an inventory dared 6 Nov. 1641 attached to the bond. See Estate of ''Raphe Lyes" of St. Andrew, Worcester, in Worcester Consistory Court, Original Wills 1641, no. 138; FHL microfilm 0,098,063. Ralph's occupation goes unstated, and the St . Andrew parish register is missing for this period."1 GAV-12.
